Out in the wild grows,,, near a creek,, every so often a spring flood up into the woods. The soil I go for is dead tree soil. To me the soil if was mixed by man, would be like 30-40% sand 5% clay , the rest dead tree soil. This soil has always made it through drought or not as much rain. I make mounds or the way dad taught me was to cone up soil to create a ground barrier.
Sounds like a high organic matter based helping to retain some of the water. If the lignin is high just be on the look out for potential of a nitrogen deficiency in the plants.
