The capillary transport system in the soil is very important. It is a transport system for water. The water can go up - when it is dry - or down - when there is precipitation. After seeing the video, you understand how important it is to keep the capillary transport system intact, when you plant a tree.

    Thank you for this excellent explanation - I'm a restoration forester/arborist in Northern California and have been telling people not to dig too deep or years. Other than the problem of plants settling too deep in the planting hole, this is the best and most dramatic demonstration of why.

    I seen a video where a guy plants a tree with a deep pvc pipe next too it for deep watering. Watering the soil then trough the pipe. Leaning more too the pipe as time gose on too get deep roots. Combine these two methods should be really beneficial if possible

    Thank you for a very interesting lesson. With cheeks blushing from shame, I now realize that I have planted incorrectly for years. Now when I know better, I will do better :). I have watched your TED-talk from some years back on how to reforest the bald spots of our planet. Since, we have a new, bigger problem: the deforestation of the Amazon. When I became aware of the political agenda, I remember saying:"The only way is to plant new "lungs" somewhere else to replace the once destroyed." Finding Groasis and seeing the work and results with it, I feel reassured that it is doable. Not only replacing the volume of the Amazon, but to supersede it and thus restoring the climate in the process.

      Chico Mendes, who fights against companies that destroys Amazon forest says : "Ecology without class strike is only gardening". I love diy's, gardening, i do a lot, it's important to "grow our own garden" but its good to know that it is not enough if we prentend to save everyone's
      Big companies are resposible of ~ 75 % of the planet, so even if every individuals does its nices small actions, it would lessen the planet and people's lifes destruction only around 25 %.
      Sorry it's not nice to ear ..
      The only times things have got better in a large scale, is when the popular pressure was too strong for the bastards to keep their position.

    What about the influence of the top 15 cm layer diameter has on the speed of grow development?

    ¿Por qué los hoyos profundos rompe la capilaridad? En sur de España la mayoría de los agricultores hacen hoyos de 100cm de profundidad para plantar olivos y almendros .

    Hi Pieter ! You are an important person in the world of Reforesting. My question today is; is it safe to add liquid plant food to the water box? Thank You

    • @Groasis
      @Groasis  7 років тому +1

      Dear Peter, we wouldn't recommend to add plant food in the Waterboxx itself. It could clog the wick and the water transportation could stop. If you want to add plant food, please provide it before placing the Waterboxx!

      Best place to put compost or any nutrients is on top of soil, (under mulch..) so soil lifes can "chew" it.. Like for this common plantation mistake, sometimes we do more ("to help ! " ^^) thinking it's gonna be better, when less but well done is better : )

    Does this method has something to do with to tillage system?

    • @LogicallySoundMM
      @LogicallySoundMM 4 роки тому +2

      Great question. I reckon that by tilling too deep we destroy the capillary system too. The ancient farmers only used a plough and ploughed to about 4 to 5 inches deep. Then covered the land with mulch. Now we've chopped all trees and also dig to 9 inches with heavy tractors. I think this is why agriculture needs more water than before

      Afghan pine tree. We only get on average 4.92 inches of rain per year. Afghan pine trees from what I've heard need 10 inches of rain per year

      The Groasis Technology is no irrigation. It is a planting technology. So if a certain species is able to cope with the climate, you can plant it with the Groasis Technology and have over 90% survival rate. If palms in “29 Palms” cannot survive without irrigation, you can plant them with the Groasis Technology, but they will not survive. In “29 Palms” one should plant such species as the Joshua Tree or the Mezquite. Those are the trees that have proven to stay alive without help from humans. If you plant them with the Groasis Waterboxx, your garden will be green forever, without using irrigation. If you would visit the fantastic “The Living Desert” in Palm Desert you can find another 100 species who can survive without irrigation in that beautiful area.

      farmboy319 Dear farmboy 319
      Every tree has an optimum quantity to live on, and a minimum quantity. Pines can easy live from 1 inch precipitation (250 mm) per year. However, they will grow very slow then. The quantity of inches/milimeters or rain actually says nothing. What really counts is the % of rain that penetrates in the soil and the % that flows to the rivers because the soil is too hard or too inclined or completely eroded. Only the quantity that penetrates the soil is the available quantity that the tree can use to live on. In May 2015 Groasis introduces a new machine to help raise the quantity of precipitation that penetrates the soil, the Groasis “Terracedixx”.
