You have such a tender heart, and are loving to the animals I have watched so far (three, I think). I am now a subscriber, so much information to apply to our three month old Doodle!
You should get a go pro if you can. I would have loved to see in the bath to learn more how to bathed my cat. I LOVE this video. You’re so nice and soft with him. Thank you.
Hi ! Thank you :) I got the smock on Amazon. They are made by Ladybird. I absolutely love this line and have purchased a couple of smocks from them. Here is the link: amzn.to/46Y3NDV
If they absolutely need it I will. I mentioned in the video that I do always wash Persian or Himalayan faces. This is because their faces collect a lot of build up around their eyes and face wrinkles. If I do not wash a cats face I always take a damp paper towel, wipe, or cotton ball and clean around their eyes and whiskers.
Unfortunately, ALL Scottish folds have arthritis, and it's due to the ears, which probably sounds weird. It's a defect that affects all the cartilage in their body, which is what causes the issue. So supporting any breeding of these cats is supporting cruelty. Arthritis is very painful, even if you have it in one joint, now imagine having it in ALL your joints, which can be the reality for these cats. PLEASE DON'T GET ONE.
I was given two as kittens last year, It was heart breaking to hear what happens as they age!! They were spayed immediately, they never go outside, I’m disabled so they’re rarely left home alone, they’re on a combo of good quality dry 😅and raw food. I’ll do everything possible in hopes of keeping them pain free as long as possible!! One is double fold & the other is straight eared. Hopefully they’ll avoid having arthritis or it being very mild and manageable!! I’d never ever reach out to get a full blooded one!! Don’t pay tons of money to own one for their looks. They’re not an accessory!! If you’re willing to be prepared for this breed please rescue them but have them fixed immediately!! It’s not fair to them or any further off spring!!
You make a big generalisation to include "all scottish folds". Yes, they have a higher chance of arthritis due to weak cartilege but plenty of folds have also been able to live normal healthy lives without any arthritis. This is possible when they come from reputable breeders that don't cut corners and hold high standards for healthy offspring. The solution isn't that we snuff out the breed completely, but about keeping the public informed on how to avoid scam breeders that don't follow the fold breeding regulations that lead to these issue-ridden mutations. It's a gorgeous breed that can be spared by better education/resources, strict laws and less generalisations. They really have the most amazing loving temperments in the domestic cat kingdom and I think that's worth the effort to support the SAFE breeding of them.
