Being unequally yoked in marriage means that one spouse is walking in obedience to God and the other is not. This can become a source of contention that amplifies other marriage issues that can arise even in relationships when both spouses are both walking with God. This can be a painful situation to experience, but for anyone in this position there is hope and it starts with the spouse who knows God. The most important thing in a marriage with a spouse who doesn’t know God or isn’t obeying Him, is Salvation! The desire to see that spouse come to know and love God is more important than happily ever after!
In this week’s episode of Marriage After God we discuss some important details about being unequally yoked in marriage. We specifically give 4 Biblical tips for those who are married to a non-believer or a spouse who claims to be Christian but does not obey God’s Word and the power that person has to influence the other spouse’s life!

My husband doesn't believe... I pray for him and he likes it...he says "it's very nice", little by little ...God can do everything.
Yes I somewhat agree. However, it needs to come from the person. It needs to be on a deep level. In my family we have a couple. She is from a religious upbringing and background, he was not. He converted for her to Christianity so she would be able to marry him. He unfortunately passed away too early but there is no cross anywhere on the tombstone. A belief needs to be nurtured.
The hardest part is the entertainment he chooses. I feel like I can’t be in the same room.
Do you have to stay while they sin? My understanding is no. They have freedom to do what they want. I also have the freedom to not participate. Follow Jesus’s example.
While they sin, you be doing God’s Will.
Thank you so much for sharing this. I was walking around so lost in this world. 2 years ago. I walked into a church and felt the pastor was directly speaking to me. My marriage was failing and I was so lost. I have been non stop going to church, praying and joined a small group. My husband says it's not his thing. My prayer is for his salvation daily. The closer I get to God the more bad things are thrown at me. I won't stop believing and growing closer to my savior. Last night I finally got bold enough and asked my husband if I could pray over our marriage. He said yes. After praying he said that was nice, I pray for my endurance and strength to get through the stuff being thrown at our marriage. I pray my husband wont give up on our marriage. This video gives me so much hope.

I completely am in support of you sister! I’ll include you in my prayers. I face a challenge much like your own. My husband is open but he is a non believer. I know if we trust in God and give it to Him all will fall in its rightful place. Do not burden your heart, just keep unwavering faith. Thank you for this message I have much work to do in my house. I have been thru so much in my home with my husband. We have started doing daily devotions with the kids and after prayin in the name of Jesus my husband after so long said Amen!!! My heart jumped for joy. He even asked me why Am I so kind why am I so loving to him after every he has done to me...I replied because I want you to see that Jesus lives in me.everyone from the outside looking in tells me to leave my husband and find someone in the church that loves God but I know that were serve a living God that does not operate in logic nor reality. Please pray that I will remain steadfast and strong that my house will be filled with peace and my husbands soul will be saved❤️

My husband won’t even talk to me about anything that has to do with Christianity. He shuts me down and says “I don’t want to talk about that”
It’s so frustrating. Even if I’m just sharing something that interests me. He thinks I’m trying to push my “religion” onto him, but really I’m just sharing what I’m learning or whatever.

My husband it’s a Muslim and he calls me fanatic, he tells me the bible is a lie, and corrupted, he tells me I am a ignorant believing I’m Jesus as god and the trinity also called me blasphemy for saying that Jesus it’s god! He is soo arrogant thinking that he knows everything….. I can’t sometimes it’s not easy because you feel they want to take you away from what you believe I feel at time stumbling in my faith 😢

@@Rosiefacesmile the problem is that he tells me I am fanatic and the religion it’s the problem and there has been very disrespectful words that we both tell each other. We have pass the boundaries of respect because I cannot keep quiet anymore of what he called me.
I grew up watching this in my parents, my mom was on fire for Jesus and my dad was lukewarm in his walk, and I watched how much my mom suffered praying for my dad to be saved. She still prays 30 years later.
Now I am married and in the same situation with my husband, I recently went through a dark period and became born again. My husband doesn't object when I pray out loud with our two girls, but I find myself being wary of how much I talk about and bring up Jesus. It's a really hard balance to know when my husband is being receptive to me bringing up the Word and when to just pray and let God work in his heart.
Maybe the reason God gave you the parents he did was so that you could witness your mothers faith in Him and her desire to pray for her husband, knowing you’d need the same strength! I’ll keep you in my prayers!!💕
I can attest to this as well. All those years ago I thought my mom was crazy for constantly praying for my dad. Well...she wasn't it took about 20 something years but it happened. My Dad gave his life to Christ and because my mom didn't give up now he is rejoicing in Heaven. Only if I can get my mom's perseverance and dedication for my husband's salvation.
I am in a similar situation, my husband accepts my faith and is very supportive of it, for me, but wants nothing to do with it himself. I am scared to "preach" to him because frankly I know that did more harm than good with me for many years of my sister preaching the gospel to me. I had a serious problem with God before Jesus saved me. I don't want to turn my husband's heart from Jesus by being a self-righteous pain in the backside.
I just know that God did not place me in this marriage for me to be saved and my husband go to Hell. Whatever happens it won't be anything I say, it'll be the Holy Spirit doing the ministering. All I have to do is walk the walk and not be afraid of doing the wrong thing because God can turn anything to the good of those who love him.
I am glad I wrote this, I think this was just the pep talk I myself needed tonight.
This was so helpful! Thank you for taking the time to put this video together. My spouse was a believer who after six years of marriage left the things of God. That was four years ago & it has been the most challenging & difficult time in our marriage but by the grace of God a month ago the results of much fasting & prayer were seen! My husband of his own requested that our pastor disciple him & help him get back on track. We have a long road but I have faith that God will finish the work that was started 12 years ago in my husband’s heart. Never give up! Persevere. The Lord is good to those who take refuge in Him.

My husband believes but He isnt active. I feel like he only interested in the Word that validates how I need to be a Good Godly wife to him but he dont focus on His part and uphold his part as a Godly Husband.
Me too. I share the same experience. I would like to know, since this type of treatment is a form of abuse, how to still walk in love while believing in restoration for my marriage, yet not enable poor emotional treatment at the same time. Is that possible? I love my husband and his culture and upbringing never showed him how to love His wife God's way. I'm praying for his heart and I want to be an example of God's perfect love to him. I also just don't want my attempts to be in vain.

It’s not your husband it’s Satan using your husband to discourage you. If your husband says something against you that is true...thank him for pointing it out so you can repent and allow Jesus to change you. If what he says is not true, then say get behind me satan! 😂 The enemy wants to cause conflict. Your husbands antichrist spirit (rebellion, pride, strife) will not allow him to seek truth from Gods word to correct him edify him or encourage him. He needs Jesus! You already have Jesus so you are stronger than he is. You have self control from the Holy Spirit to not react to any of fiery darts the enemy uses him to throw at you. He is broken. You are restored. Pray for him and surrender your marriage to God.

God definitely lead me here early this morning.. I was and still am a bit weary from the issues with my marriage. God showed me yesterday a side of my husband that hurt me so much. God allowed me to see this .. God allowed me to feel the uncomfortableness of a situation I was in too push me to pray for him. I asked God months ago to give me a burden for my unbelieving spouse.. because I had been passive about his salvation. He has such a disdain for Christianity and anything involving God.. that I just halfhearted excepted his fate. Terrible position to be in.. So I praise God for this morning because after all the hurt and pain I felt.. bitterness..rage.. I cried out to God I don’t want to feel this way!!! He lead me to repentance for doing things my way and tearfully sought him for help.. and it lead me to this video! God is so good..merciful.. just amazing. God allowed me to feel all the uncomfortableness for a reason! His ways are not our ways. He is going to get glory either way.. but he is using me as the wife to pray for my husband and watch God do a great work ! Please keep the Gwynn family in prayer 🙏🏾

Sometimes, it's a from the pit of hell mutitude of issues that take special counsel and covering. If that's you, don't get frustrated or feel misunderstood, just get praying and God will send you folks who can handle extreme situations. Not everyone can. That's okay.

Omg. I just stumbled upon your page. I needed this. My husband’s heart is so hard right now. He tells me that he doesn’t want to be married anymore, but hasn’t made any steps to file for divorce. He is being unfaithful, and it hurts. But i still continue to pray for his salvation and for God to restore our marriage.

I layed my hand on my husband's shoulder and said to him, "Be born again in the name of Jesus." and he's been believing God has a plan for his life since I did that. He still drinks n smokes too much but I believe he's quit some day. I just keep praying for his spiritual maturity.
Thanks for this message. I have been struggling with this. My husband has never believed. I have been in church my whole life but had gotten away from it for many years got into an addiction. I decided to rededicate my life to God & was delivered from my addiction! Praise God!! The problem is my husband seems almost jealous of my relationship with God and often threatens I better not change too much. This is not the woman he got with he says and even mocks God calling Him “my Little buddy”!!! This is hurting our relationship and I am struggling to know what to do. Totally Tonya Vlogs very similar situation with me. May I suggest Total Forgiveness, a book by RT Kendall. I have such love and peace for him, totally forgive all so that all our sins can be forgiven. I feel set free even though he hasn’t changed. On a side note, after much prayer about our marriage woes,
I opened the Bible and there in Isaiah 54 it says, « I will be your husband. ». God is our husband- our provider and protector. So even if our earthly husband won’t step up, our heavenly husband has got us secure in his righteous right hand. Keep forgiving, keep loving and keep praying! This video is exactly what I needed to hear. I was already getting thoughts of leaving him. But hearing you guys say don’t leave. Really hit home for me. It’s so hard but I’m going to keep running to God and having faith and hope that this will change.
I also want to say that it may be important that if a you are in a relationship that is abusive, it is important to be safe. I don't want anyone to think they need to stay if they are being abused. Hey I'm going through the same thing. My spouse seems like he is scared to outright say he is atheist but he says he has "mixed beliefs". The more we talk about it the more questions he has against the bible that I feel like I cannot give a good enough answer too because I am not all knowing like god. I pray that god is working on him and I have to trust that he is. There might be something going on that I dont even know about. Pray for my family and I will pray for yours.

It’s so very hard when my husband is very very nonbeliever I really made huge mistake for marry nonbeliever, I still love him but I’m really wish I had married a Christian in the first place. I lose my relationship with God everyday

Hello Angie, I am sorry to know that you are going through a hard time. Something I wanted to share with you is there is a real enemy in this world and he is trying his best to use a weaker person who is spiritually blinded to affect your relationship with God, take authority for you are a child of God and bind the negative thoughts he keeps bringing in your mind daily. That’s a strategy to overcome all negativity and look at the weaker person as spiritually blind and pray effectively. You are precious to God and your identity is secure in Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour

My husband appears to be running and angry with God. He no longer attends church, but allows worship in the home and will listen. However over 5 years since he has attended church. We have a lot of interference in our marriage and his mother and family don’t respect boundaries or the change that come with marriage. My husband has not completed the leave and cleave phase. They encourage him to divorce and to avoid the pressures, he wants out instead of standing up to family and friends. Yes, when your spouse is not walking or doesn’t know the Lord, heartbreak is sure to come. I’ve become numb and many times ready to give up. I hang on by a thread. Glory be to God, I do see small signs of hope, but then the attacks come from the in laws. Have mercy Lord!

Your video was sent to me from God. I am unequivocally yoked. My husband is affected with false pride. This has affected our happiness. I realize that God is necessary in every marriage and instead of worrying about him, I’m learning to hand it over God.

So encouraging my husband is saved (i think ) he does go church w me but he doesn’t walk in scripture that much . But he has change some over 10 yr of marriage he use to not go church and made it hard me for going I’ve learn to walk out 1 peter 3 and not nag or preach to him .

My wife is an agnostic leaning towards atheism, it's so hard when I'm trying to lead my family in a godly manner. I want a Godly wife so bad.
I understand you. I am Christian and i married my wife and thought she was a believer for years, until her actions and ways started to reveal the truth. That she even herself thought she was a Christian but really she didnt know Christ. It does cause major problems in life. When somone has not read the Bible and does not know God. It can take its toll. To me there are only two roads to take. Either convert them to the truth, which can take years or there may have to be a seperation or division.

@@slowbotdrone Thank you. Its a very very hard road. Because the problem is you can only plant a seed you cannot make it grow. I am still going through it even now. My wife is the opposite of what the Bible says a wife should be. Shes contentious, Shes yells and trys to usurp authority over me constantly and she just does not understand that without understanding Gods order and following it then their will always be problems and arguing and the house will be divided and fall. Then theres the other issue that anybody that does not know Jesus Christ is subject to the devil by default. So now i also have experienced attacks from Satan through my wife because she doesnt have the truth. It gets deep and its an extrememly hard road. Please pray for me and my wife to know the truth because i am at the verge of giving up. We have veen together for 9 years and married for 7. We have 2 children also and our house is divided by Satan and ready to fall.
My husband used to be active in the church as an officer and since he started hanging out with co-workers that keep on telling him that religion is just about money, he started drifting away from his faith and seeing all negatives with members and the church and religion in general. He hasn't been going to church for almost 5 years now and since then I didn't see him pray, much worse even telling my son to decide on his own whenever I encourage my son not to forsake worship service. I am totally devastated. I want a God fearing husband so bad...
I have an unbelieving spouse . It’s a very painful walk. I find my joy in Jesus. Some days I walk in sadness and come back to Jesus’ feet . He’s the only stable thing in this world. Our happiness cannot be found in our spouses. They will fail us. Cling to Jesus always friends. 💕It’s not an easy walk , but God will give you the strength to walk through it. Persevere!

We are both believers but he is in a state where his heart is getting cold because of the circumstances in his life. He is seeking God but is struggling. I never really understood what “unequally yoked” meant, I am sure living in the middle of the yoke now. My husband gave me hope when we were dating that he was very interested in having a relationship with God.
Now 2 years later, I find myself regretting and feeling broken as my husband belittles, mocks, contradicts and hides the fact of his porn obsession. I feel robbed since he treats me different and disrespectfully. My husband doesn’t care that he has crushed my heart. I have brought my feelings and heart him but he just makes a mockery of what I am trying to express. I feel so ugly and unwanted. I have never withheld my love from him, physically or emotionally. I serve him and take care of him willing and lovingly but he doesn’t want to treat me the way I need to be treated. My heart is crushed, frustrated and need help to know what to do.

You tell them God HATES divorce,and we are bound to our spouses until death do us part,We are not to remarry if your spouse is still living and breathing,I know it's HARD ,trust me I've been through the wringer with my husband,BUT I TRUST God,He knew there wld be troubles and extreme difficulties in marriage,suit up sister,you gonna have to battle for your marriage/ family,God is with you,He wants your spouse saved and delivered even more than you! @@denisejackson776 he doesn't like divorce yes but there are times that he allows it without holding it against us. If a partner is being unfaithful then yes , or in my case with my first husband he was very abusive to me and our kids to the point of almost killing us , that is also something he sees okay with leaving your spouse for. He would never want you in a situation where your life is at risk. I've also remarried and a lot of people see things differently on remarrying after a divorce but when you know it's God led you know it's right .
Thank you for making this video. I keep on asking for the guidance of the Lord related to this matter. I felt blessed by your discussion that we can still Honor God without breaking the marriage. It might be hard, since this is the life we chose, but thru prayers and daily devotions, praying we can surpass the conflicts and disagreements.

Wow. I really needed to hear this. It has been a struggle in my life and in my faith. I have been praying for God to soften my heart again after losing my way. I have been needing strength to hold us both up. God gave me clarity and revealed to me that it’s not the fact that my husband will never change because of what I may believe but the fact that I need to trust in God by his word that He can change his heart because he is true. Then right after I heard that @28:00 your wife asked what would you say to those wife or husbands who have an unbelieving spouse and your response was exactly what God just revealed to me. He called me to share this with you. So many emotions right now. Please pray for me, to be able to have the strength to continue an intimate relationship with God and show my husband how the gospel changed me for the better..

This is really encouraging to me. I am the believer in my marriage. My husband has walked away from God. I'm honestly having a hard time praying for my husband. After four years of seeing no change, it is hard. I don't want to leave, but my family is pressuring me too. It's exhausting to stand strong. I needed to watch this today. So grateful I ran into this video. I have been going through it with my husband. To the point where I am nearly losing hope. What stood out here was, the piece on “Perspective”. I have been so focused on my own perspective that I really did not think about God’s perspective. I have been focused on being hurt and wanting my husband to love me the way God intended him to love me.
The only thing that has kept me going is that I see my husband through the lens of Christ. However, it was almost as if I gave myself limitations. I knew his salvation is what is most important, but I never thought of it being more important than our marriage. Another thing that stood out here was God wanting my holiness VS my happiness.
I have so much to work on. I have let my situation and how my husband treats me harden my heart. Thank you so much for sharing this.

Me and my husband to be have been together for over 3 years we have a son and I became a Christian a few months ago and hes not Christian. We're about to be married in one week. I have such great anxiety about this very topic. I've been praying for peace, by today it's overwhelming, I had a mini panic attack while making my wedding cake, I just froze there in my kitchen and it became hard to breathe. Someone please pray for me.
Praying for you. I truely believe that God has put you in a position to be a personal witness, to be a pilar of salt in your family and a light illuminating God's love. God will use you to reach your family. Have faith, be a good example, show how amazing it is to experience God's love, and pray pray pray. Keep God close wkth everything you've got. Its all part of His plan.

I am so sorry you are dealing with and loving an unbeliever. It is so difficult and life sucking to the point of utter brokenness. Nancy my brother was a unbeliever and it wasn’t until his health started to fail that her surrendered and accepted Christ. Keep praying love, I’m thinking of you. My spouse isn’t a believer either, I know your struggle.
