She's Admin and HR. I would have as much respect for her as I would for Tataru, but because she has the echo, her usefulness on the field is squandered, which is a waste.
So unfortunately, a ton of Krile's backstory/info is hidden away in Eureka (which I know a lot of newer players don't do, as it's both side content and kind of split on whether it's fun or not).
Thancred easily had the most character development and the largest character arc. He went from sorta of carefree charming flirt, to a more troubled serious and focused character, to a protective father figure.
I feel the G'raha stuff. There were many moments with him that I cherish, but there was one particular one-on-one with G.T., where he said something that I needed to hear at that moment. I actually cried. It felt so lame, but also so good.
Tataru is OP when it comes to anything gil-related, an awesome crafter, but is potentially the strongest Arcanist (at least as far as arcamima "math" goes) Her Carbuncle initially summoned in La Noscea (and raaaaaaan away in her questline) seems to not have been dispelled all these times, and is allegedly recovered by Sharlayan peeps for research as it was wayward and its master cannot be found anywhere nearby. It should have been dispelled once it runs out of aether imbued to it upon its summoning, but it has persisted until Endwalker (still is alive and kicking!). Funny enough, if that Carbuncle has been roaming La Noscea since it was summoned, Tataru's Carbuncle in the Four Lords quest line may have been a different one. The Othard Carbuncle may have been not dispelled as well as it just ran away in the battle with not-Soroban. Having 2 Carbuncles at the same time may be unorthodox or downright bizarre, but given Tataru's knowledge at bookkeeping and accounting (math-heavy stuff), this may lend to her prowess in arcanima. Either her summoning technique is very very VERY efficient in aether conservation, or she's just too good in the workings of arcanima but needs extreme battle training as a Caster DPS; which may be futile given her combat abilities being close to um, zero. ...at least she knows how to spam Physick (and provide good heals) without being an Academician. Low-key thinking that Tataru's arcanima is very close to the Ancients' creation magicks as her Carbies' longevity is somewhat echoing the arcane concepts of the beings we saw in Elpis.
Y'shtola is pretty universally adored (for, ahem, a few reasons), but i think she's my favorite because of how subtle and nuanced her vulnerabilities are. like, her asking Urianger to describe the night sky to her is one of my favorite character moments in the entire game (i'm a sentimental sack of shit) but much like One Piece, they dedicate ample time to each character, which adds so much weight and cohesion to the story. really excited for Krile's time in the spotlight in 7.0 for this reason great video. love following your stuff
About the twins first approach. It's actually you've met them really early in the game as two young kids just want to coming to town same as us in the first cutscenes (Ul'dah and Gridania you've met them on the carriage as they're just asleep, and for Limsa they just sleeping at the corner same dock as your characters). And also in the early level MSQ you've seen both of them on the background leaving the town.
Depending on which City Start you start in you meet and interact with different Scions, Gridania is Papalymo & Yda, Ul'Dah is Thancred, and Limsa Lominsa is Y’shtola.
@@HeatherJustPlay For someone who likes to do stuff solo Eureka is gonna be rough. If you want to make any progress you need to shout for party invites with random groups of people and ask strangers for raises if you die since you lose a ton of progress if you release.
@@HeatherJustPlay I did it with a friend, but I believe there are solo guides out there too. The fate parties aren't bad at all though, mostly you just have to ask if people pre farm bosses or if a tracker is up and you're good to go. And there's the challenge log to give you more EXP!
Just a quick note for each of the jobs for the Scions (spoilers to the uninitiated): Papalymo is a Thaumaturge Yda/Lyse is a Pugilist Thancred is a Rogue and later becomes a Gunbreaker Y'shtola is a Conjurer but later becomes a Sorceress (a character exclusive job) Alphinaud is an Acemagician (another character exclusive job) and later becomes a Sage Urianger is an Arcanist and later becomes an Astrologian Estinien is a Dragoon Krile is a Conjurer Alisae is also an Acemagician and later becomes a Red Mage G'raha Tia is classified as an All-Rounder
To add onto this, the characters aren't constrained by the class system. Thancred uses rogue techniques as a Gunbreaker, Shtola is still a sorceress as a healer, Urianger can be a Lithomancer, which is a summoner without the summons.
In Crystal Tower, G’raha is an archer. This is why he makes the comment after Shadowbringers about not being of much use to everybody just ‘bending the bow’.
I just wanted to say that i really love these videos you're putting out. You're talking about all this FFXIV stuff in such a way that brings me a lot of joy, and I hope you make many more in the future, just talking about different aspects of the game that you enjoy. It's also very cool how you recognized Tataru's hard work, since you don't really hear that a lot from people! Thank you for making these videos!
If you'd like to know more about what Alisaie was up to during 2.0, you can do the Coils of Bahamut! They can be run unsynced solo at level 90 easily and they'll give you *so much lore insight* it'll make your head spin -- assuming you've an interest in the Calamity that ends the Sixth Astral Era and rings in the Seventh Umbral Era. You'll also get some insight into Archon Louisoix, the twins' grandfather. Regarding Krile and her mysterious disappearing island -- It's been mentioned already in comments but these secrets and more can be discovered through the Eureka questline! Available to start from Rhalgr's Reach. It's also where the pretty glowy armor you've no doubt seen with some frequency comes from -- the Elemental armor sets. They could be yours! That first painting you were using in the poster book, Scions of the Seventh Dawn, is my favorite artwork out of any that have been produced - I actually pulled it out of my own poster book and it's now framed! (I did get another un-destroyed copy of the book, naturally). As for my favorite Scion, it's gotta be my man Thancred. Ironically, the first time I went through the story, I barely remembered him at all - side effect of starting in Gridania, perhaps - but by the time Shadowbringers came around, I was completely enamoured. 'Reliable' is absolutely a perfect word to describe him -- he'll always be there when you need him. Though I must say - while you harbored suspicions of Thancred, my steely detective gaze was always fixed on Urianger... I feel like I could probably gush at you about all of the Scions for hours, but i'll leave it there... for now. (: Thanks for the video!
I concur on Coils. It should be required like Crystal Tower is now. There is lore in there that is fundamental to the game, and a greater understanding of Alisae early on.
Definitely going to do the Coils of Bahamut unsynced solo today - thank you for the tip!! And yes, Eureka is on the list. Thanks for watching and for chiming in! Love hearing what others think! 😄
For Krile’s island backstory play Eureka. It’s predominantly a vehicle for he Stormblood relic weapon quests but it’s whole story revolves around Krile and her home.
Krile is also heavily featured in the “Warring Triad” quest line which happens to thematically overlap quite strongly with what’s going on in the 6.1 and 6.2 MSQ quests!
I'm gonna be blunt and direct, good riddance to Papalymo and Yda. They truly did nothing for the overall importance of the story, and they were severely underdeveloped characters. Complete fillers and boring to me. Lyse is a different deal for me, as I actually like her real self -- albeit very brash and annoying to begin with, I admire her tenacity and attitude by the end of Stormblood and the small segments we have with her forward from that. The community bandwagoning with hating Lyse is underdeserved I think.
Thank you for your thoughts on Lyse!! I feel like she gets a lot of hate … and to an extent I get it, especially from what happens in early Stormblood where she makes a number of pretty big blunders. But, like all the other scions, she grows! She figures out who she is on her own terms, rather than standing in her sister’s shadow. And she steps into her own as a leader in her own right. I appreciate all that about her, and I don’t see that talked about enough. She is definitely eager :) Thank you for this great video!!
I’m always surprised to hear what the overall opinion is of the “community” since I’m new to the game and I don’t know what the consensus is for a lot of the game yet. I’m actually surprised to hear that Lyse gets a lot of hate. She was so badass in the trailer and I really liked her voice acting.
Sometimes I try to tell people that in-game, Minfilia's Job is a Miner... She does not have a Combat Job like the other Scions. Minfilia is the leader because she has the strongest connection to Hydalyn other than the player-character.
Wow. I hated Urianger from the beginning. Still do. Only Scion who lies to all the rest of them as a rule. And deciding not to deceive all his friends in EW is no redemption arc. He just was finally not an asshole one time. 🤣
The voice acting threw me off post-heavensward. You'd think they would have re-recorded the dialogue with current voice actors. They do an amazing job at delivering their lines in such bittersweet moments.
Yes, I just finished playing ARR with New Game + and seriously, my only wish is that they re-do the voice acting with current VAs. That would be amazing.
I play the game with both Japanese audio and Japanese text, and Uriange speaks in a way that is both very formal but has a twinge of archaism, though it's not quite to the same degree as he does in English. I think the major reason for that is in Japanese speaking archaically gives off a "samurai" vibe, there are a lot of period dramas here and in those they all speak archaically so the vibe he would give off would be different bc I feel like him speaking archaically in English makes him sound intelligent and that's not really the impression it would give in Japanese. But, he does use very formal speech with a hint of archaicism. Also his VA is my favorite of all the scions, I love how he talks so much. Sorry this isn't a very specific answer haha but hopefully it gave some insight
Digging these videos keep up the good work! My suggestion would be to just not even worry about spoilers and just put a warning at the beginning of your videos. Its literally impossible to talk about characters in depth without spoilers. Mentioning anything about a character in shadowbringers and beyond basically spoils that character doesn't die...even if they disappear or "die" in a previous expansion. Just my 2 cents but for these type of videos spoiler free content doesn't really have an audience.
I been playing since 1.0 I done a fair amount of the content but I also take decent brakes. I used to enjoy pvp than they made it to main stream vs actual skill based, I still do it just not as much. Also I never watch guides for trials the raids I have done ect I view that as cheating. It is the only MMO I have stuck to for all these years. Most MMO's have crap lore and or the interface drives me crazy and sometimes it's the art style. ( I do not do end game Raiding like savage ect )
Glad I stumbled upon this channel with the unboxing video for your encyclopedia eorzeas. I really dig how much you share your feelings in such a detailed way about the game we know and love. I really hope your channel grows my friend.
I never understood the Minfilia hate...like...I dunno, I read some really awful things which was like "wow...she's fictional but dang...and even though fictional, she never did anything all that horrible, people just hate her..." also going to a slight shadow bringer spoiler: * * * * * * Again, spoiler for shadow bringers * * * * Ryne felt like she was literally just an apology for minfilia, like it looks like the devs legit took some of the hate towards minfilia, and Ryne (I am murdering her name...Q_Q) was like...just being what people wanted minfilia to be but reborn. Not spoilers anymore: I really love Tataru. I'm an accountant, so actually she super resonated with me. I love the little wave she seems to do in like 90% of all the cut scenes shes in. She just waves and its adorable. Also as far as her sewing goes...I have no idea what happened to her with shadowbringers, but man she tapped into her edgelord. She went from that peppy school girl like outfit for me to literally personification of shadows and horror (that mask looks like a combination of having they eyes gouged out AND sewn shut). She's definitely working some issues out during that period. I love her little sly and somewhat evil moments too. Edit: its not a word to that describes Tataru, but it does sum up all things regarding her, I think its serendipity. While she is pragmatic and plans and does what she can, to be honest a good amount of things that surround her seem to happen due to luck and coincidence, and I think the warrior of light tends to influence that as well. Tataru I think takes these moments of accident and makes them happy, or she is the positivity in an otherwise bad situation.
Aww I didn't realize that people hate on Minfilia - makes me sad. I mean, I can see why she wouldn't be someone's favorite but just straight up hate? 😕 Also, I love your description of Tataru hahah. That made me laugh. And yes, serendipity is a great word!
Tataru our crafter queen and best girl is like WoW when it comes to treating the WoL with her get rich quick schemes. She doesn't care if you've saved the world and universe from destruction. You're going to help her find these treasures and work for her so the Scions can make money after Alphinaud blew the bank back in Stormblood. XD
They all started out as teenage dorks (apart from Papalymo who's probably 65) and did a lot of growing up from each expansion to the next. They're all so much better now than when they started out. Thancred strikes me as a character nearing the end of his story. He's sad and tired from being alone and for him the happy ending would be to get rejoined. Brace yourself for a sad story.
Great to see this content! Sadly I'm part of the group that mostly skipped through ARRs story until I got to long cutscene in The Parting Glass right before the start of Heavensward. I started playing with 6 friends (only 1 remains 😢), and we all were playing at different rates. So to keep up with a couple of the bigger grinders, I felt I had to skip through ARR. I recently started a New Game+ playthrough so I could go back and properly experience ARR... Still getting used to the older voices but it's been very interesting seeing these characters before their big character developments throughout the expansions. Keep the FFXIV content coming! It has been great!
I really like this type of video, wish it'd get more views. I gotta say though, Y'shtola really didn't work for me by the time stormblood came around, she was the person to go to in ARR, then all these bad things kept happening to her and by then it's like "okay grandma, we can stop fighting the tribal people if you want"
Just so you know, Krile's story is heavily fleshed out in a side mission that unlocks 4 completely new zones. Look up how to start the Eureka missions to learn about her. It really is great stuff.
Huge fan of this content. I've been playing a long time and it's hard for me to talk to my friends that want to get into the game. Your videos are approachable and it's way easier to point them to your explanations then try to unwind all my thoughts on a decade old game. Thanks!
Also, about Krile you explore the story of the island that vanished with the Eureka Relic Weapon content. It's side content so it's not voiced but it's a lot of Krile information and you get a pretty shiny weapon after.
This short official Square Enix video provides the best explanation of the ARR character’s personalities, especially Minfilia (I love it so much): ua-cam.com/video/cuELXU0OEs4/v-deo.html
@@HeatherJustPlay I believe it was an April Fool’s video back in the day. I used to play a lot of Street Fighter, so I loved the homage to that and other fighting games!
Let's just say Yshtola is EVERYONES favorite for a number of reasons and Tataru is the true evil behind the scenes pulling the strings. Can't trust any lalas. My favorite character is Estinien because he's a fucking badass chad that goes 1v1 a dragon and just shits people by being brutally honest and he treats Alphi like a younger brother and Alphi looks up to him like a older brother he wanted. The perfect duo.
@@HeatherJustPlay also I get the impression you have not done the raid storylines which have some great worldbuilding and character moments.
Wow this is exactly what I wanted to know. Thank you for sharing! 🤩
The rest of the Scions are pretty clear-cut, barring Papalymo. Papalymo is MOSTLY a Thaumaturge, though he dabbles in healing some.
Ahhh got it. Ok cool, thanks for the input! I'll keep this in mind as I'm making more videos!
On Krile: Well... let's just say there's a reason why Krile is intimately involved with the Eureka expedition and questline.
Have you checked out the original Japanese voice for Papalymo? ;D
"a bit of a change"
I been playing since 1.0 I done a fair amount of the content but I also take decent brakes. I used to enjoy pvp than they made it to main stream vs actual skill based, I still do it just not as much. Also I never watch guides for trials the raids I have done ect I view that as cheating. It is the only MMO I have stuck to for all these years. Most MMO's have crap lore and or the interface drives me crazy and sometimes it's the art style. ( I do not do end game Raiding like savage ect )
Tataru is the real hero of the game. I love her so much.
TRUTH.
Yiff'shtola has done good things for the catgirl race. She's intelligent and serious.
I think they are useless throw away characters then some become quite cool
Ong! You love old books too! I love the smell of old musty books. >_
Glad I stumbled upon this channel with the unboxing video for your encyclopedia eorzeas. I really dig how much you share your feelings in such a detailed way about the game we know and love. I really hope your channel grows my friend.
Thank you! 😊
Your wish came true: FINAL FANTASY XIV: ENDWALKER | THE ART OF RESURRECTION - AMONG THE STARS - [ARTBOOK]
OMG PREORDEREDDDDDD
I never understood the Minfilia hate...like...I dunno, I read some really awful things which was like "wow...she's fictional but dang...and even though fictional, she never did anything all that horrible, people just hate her..." also going to a slight shadow bringer spoiler:

Again, spoiler for shadow bringers

Ryne felt like she was literally just an apology for minfilia, like it looks like the devs legit took some of the hate towards minfilia, and Ryne (I am murdering her name...Q_Q) was like...just being what people wanted minfilia to be but reborn.
Not spoilers anymore:
I really love Tataru.
XD
😂😂😂
They all started out as teenage dorks (apart from Papalymo who's probably 65) and did a lot of growing up from each expansion to the next. They're all so much better now than when they started out. Thancred strikes me as a character nearing the end of his story. He's sad and tired from being alone and for him the happy ending would be to get rejoined. Brace yourself for a sad story.
If they introduce us to a new "tank role" character then... uh oh.
"i really like yshtola" welcome to ffxiv
Kryle’s island is addressed in the storm blood exploration content: Eureka
I’ll have to check it out!
I think you may know more lore at this point than I and I've been playing for over 6 years..😁
Haha I just really love the story 🤩
Really enjoying the content and look forward to more! As a long time player it really brings me joy to see a new player fall in love with the game.
Yay thank you! More videos coming soon! 😊
Tataru forever!
But where was Moenbryda?
Talked about her in my newest video! ua-cam.com/video/E85MAxxwkhw/v-deo.html
Yeah ARR feels like a prequel. And more videos coming soon! 😄
As long as you enjoyed it, that makes me happy! 😄 Also, ok grandma 😂😂
Just so you know, Krile's story is heavily fleshed out in a side mission that unlocks 4 completely new zones. Look up how to start the Eureka missions to learn about her. It really is great stuff.
I heard! It's on the to-do list!
Huge fan of this content. I've been playing a long time and it's hard for me to talk to my friends that want to get into the game. Your videos are approachable and it's way easier to point them to your explanations then try to unwind all my thoughts on a decade old game. Thanks!
You are so welcome! More videos coming soon! 😄
Your Y'shtola analysis is spot on. I love her bluntness and honesty.
Also, about Krile you explore the story of the island that vanished with the Eureka Relic Weapon content. It's side content so it's not voiced but it's a lot of Krile information and you get a pretty shiny weapon after.
On the to do list!
This short official Square Enix video provides the best explanation of the ARR character’s personalities, especially Minfilia (I love it so much): ua-cam.com/video/cuELXU0OEs4/v-deo.html
Hahah that was hilarious. I enjoyed that - thanks for sharing! 😂
Kinda surprised you didn’t talk about moenbryda and arenvald
Sorry! I’ll have to do another video about the rest of the Scions!
Hey just thought id let ya know, in regards to krile and the destroyed island, you need to do the eureka questline to find out what happened.
Oooh thanks for the heads up. I’ll look into this!
@@HeatherJustPlay also I get the impression you have not done the raid storylines which have some great worldbuilding and character moments. Even if you run through them unsynced just for story, its well worth it. Coils of bahamut was alisaes proper intro into the msq in arr along with being the 'finale' to 1.0 before the 7th calamity.
I’ve unlocked the Bahamut stuff but haven’t done them yet. On the list!
You forgot one of the important Scions... Moonbreeda
I'll have to do another video with the rest of the Scions.
@@HeatherJustPlay yay! I can't wait to see your thoughts on them. We share a 95% similar view as I am the HR business. So admin is important, so Tataru is sooo important
thancred was the first scion i met
Nice. I started in Gridania but I kinda wish I started in Ul’dah.
@@HeatherJustPlay i started in Limsa Limosa, so i got to meet Y'shtola first. It worked so well because my fem roe is roleplayed as a pirate turned nerd then turned hero, so Y'shtola spoke to the nerd part so much haha
