In this video, Prof. John Ahr demonstrates three ways to straighten wire with very simple tools. One of these three methods might be just what you need to salvage that wire in the bottom of your toolbox.
It's important when you're straightening wire to know how to preserve or enhance its characteristics. This video will show you how to maintain a wire's profile without work hardening it. Or, if you like, how to maintain a wire's profile while work hardening it. This may be necessary if you're trying to work harden a pin finding on a brooch or if you need a wire in a sculpture to be rigid.

You can also placed the wire in between two steel blocks, then rubbed the two blocks together. Love your videos!

A useful video, thanks. I'm trying to straighten a coil of titanium wire so that I can fashion it into an ultralight stand for my hiking stove and pots. I don't want to destroy this expensive material by using inferior methods. I might try the mallet method, as work hardening will be beneficial for me. Thanks again.
