  • How do I turn my PAPER DRAWINGS into GAME ART?
    I've been asked this for literally years now, so with my potato camera, pens, paper, and selection of software I decided to take you on a journey of turning doodles into assets, scribbles into graphics, drawings into art, and sketches into games.
    Feel free to change any of this up and find your own methods of generating game art from your own wonderful creations, I'd love to see YOUR stamp on it.

      Do it anyway! There's a lot of charm sometimes in non-representational art (that some people call 'bad') that could make your game really stand out, in theory. :)

    I have been trying to find a way to make art for video game projects I wanna do for fun. I have tried pixel art, digital paiting, 3d modeling etc. They all just have too much of a learning curve. But this method seems to be easiest for me. I draw much better by hand!

    • @PensnPixels
      @PensnPixels  3 роки тому +2

      I think this is the exact reason I ended up coming up with this method; like, I have a Wacom for drawing digitally, but without being able to feel the pen tip's tension on actual paper it just doesn't see the same. Digital art's hard, I feel ya there! :)

    Median filtering is the classical solution to salt-and-pepper noise, if you're having trouble getting clean results, I think GIMP's noise reduction has a median filtering option that might help :)

    This is a great video for someone that can't draw I have watched this video like 4-5 times today but I had a few questions what pends do you use and my second question is what assists would you recommend like rulers and stuff along those lines

    • @PensnPixels
      @PensnPixels  7 місяців тому

      I'd recommend whatever you work best with. I know that's a cop-out answer, but the only reason I don't use rulers for straight lines is that I kinda like the wobbly thing I have going on; just the grid-paper squares is enough for me personally. In essence, if it works for you personally - it works!

  • @SSMLivingPictures
    @SSMLivingPictures Рік тому

    Question for you my friend...When you say 'scan the grid paper and find out what is a decent size for your level art', what are you using as a 'measuring stick' to say what is decent? I am starting a game with hand drawn art myself, and Ive already made a sprite sheet of walking anaimation for my character but I stopped myself to learn a bit first, for I worry my files are too large. Should I scale them down to the point where they don't overcompress and get a bit fuzzy? And am I doing this to try and limit the overall size of asset files so the game doesnt have performance issues? Any input you can provide is appreciated, thank you!
    Edit: I am using Unity and I realize you are using Construct, but I feel your info will still be just as valid.

    • @PensnPixels
      @PensnPixels  3 роки тому

      Primarily to get the image consistent; to take a picture with a camera that's usable would mean more work -- ensuring distance, angle, lighting, et al are all the same from capture to capture. A scanner is much easier, if you have access to one.

      At a push, a camera/phone can take pictures of drawings on paper; but it's a bit more of a task to get the sizing consistent. Failing that, most modern printers annoyingly have a built-in scanner for some reason -- perhaps you know someone who owns one that would allow you access for a bit?

    • @PensnPixels
      @PensnPixels  Місяць тому

      I've never really vibed with it for some reason; I think it's because I partially rely on the feedback from paper to pen. But there's also the fact that I can take a pen and sketchbook practically anywhere with me; most of NekoNecro was drawn in various food and drink places whilst away from home. :)
