I’d like to share with American and Canadian citizens - no visa needed now to travel as a tourist through most European countries. However, in 2025 please be aware of the European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS) where the rules will change. Also remember UK is a perfect way to use that location as a springboard to visit European countries via train/plane. Maximize your vacation (PTO) no need to do 1 country at a time. For e.g. fly from Pearson/YYZ to LHR spend time in London then train to Paris or Belgium or alternate NYC/JFK for Americans on your return flight out of CDG no need to go back to LHR. Spend 3 days in each city and plan well accordingly😊

However its cheaper to fly than take a train to some of those destinations. For example you can get a return ticket to Paris for £36

The real issue is getting an appointment to get a visa to Europe when you have a UK residence permit. It is almost impossible
You can apply the the shangen visa which you can use all over Europe. It's only expire after 6 months
The Shenghen visa is valid to all 27 countries,
