For online you should try to use the terrain to your advantage I have a multiplayer video on my channel if you want to see that generally move your troops forward as one spread out a bit so artillery doesn't hurt as much but keep a few reserves to surprise the enemy and the ammo part I actually don't know they don't have ammo trucks or anything like that so if your men run out of ammo have them collect ammo from the dead on either side or just kamikaze with the grenades lol hope that helps

Oh they will shoot when they see the enemy don't worry but sometimes the troops move for a second to get into position before firing on the enemy
