You've reminded me of a lake we used to go to in my childhood. They had koi in the marina and I was fascinated. I also recall being highly amused when I learned that their "whiskers" are called barbels--I was thinking of barbells, of course!

Ahh, I’m so glad you did this! So many beautiful koi tutorials out there but they tend to be a bit much for a beginner and I get intimidated before even trying. I feel like I could easily play around with many colours with a lovely and simple guide like yours (very drawn to the blue/gold combo!). Thank you!

When you're sketching, do you use a reference? I'm rubbish at determining placement (or I haven't practiced enough) and I was surprised where you placed the side fins but actually that does look correct (so I would have placed them too high)
