- Superstar Rajinikanth on April 9 welcomed the BJP's poll promise of implementing river inter-linking and said the initiative would address the issue of poverty as it would lead to upliftment of farmers and employment for crores of people.
Speaking to reporters here, he made it clear there was no change in his stand of not supporting any political party in the coming Lok Sabha elections bypolls to Tamil Nadu assembly. Interlinking of rivers is among the promises made in the BJP's manifesto for the 2019 Lok Sabha polls released Monday by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. "I've been pushing for inter-linking (of rivers). BJP has said it would form a commission for interlinking of rivers. It's welcome," he said.
Noting that interlinking of rivers was a dream of former prime minister A B Vajpayee, the superstar recalled he had taken up the issue with the former when he met him and suggested that it be christened "Bhagiratham Yojana." Bhagiratham means making the impossible possible. "By God's grace and if people give the BJP a chance to form the government at the Centre for the second time, the party should inter-link rivers," the 69-year-old star said.

Then who will continue that? And there are lot of opportunities to steal the people money.. that is why I m telling them to not waste money instead of doing simple things like rain water harvesting, cleaning polluted rivers lake ponds . While some of his ideas of rainwater harvesting and reclaiming existing water bodies and maintaining them are good and must be done simultaneously along with linking rivers. We can excavate many ponds 5 acres 0r 10 acres sizes in the forest area of Guindy RAJ BAVAN, ANNA UNIVERSITY CAMPUS, LOYALO COLLEGE CAMPUS, MCC COLLEGE CAMPUS, MANY MORE IIT campus this will increase the ground water level in sorrounding areas and it will be a water storage area in rainy seasons.

Interconnection between rivers is a must with proper control it may be possible.The dams intermediate will be a water capacitor .The man opposing is a fool.Extra flow will be stored as sea coast dams.Sea coast dams will be connected with interconnection of rivers with surge tanks in between with penstock combinations has to be evaluated.

Can't comment about the result, it can go either ways. But, if you want to understand the difficult part involved in a project and if you appoint a team to handle about it Mr. Janagaraj will be the head for that committee.
Ok, he has got 30-40 years of experience in his field, but he is seeing only the adverse portion of this project.
Based on his interview he is emphasising three points 1. Political feasibility & 2. Infrastructure 3. ecology.
1. Political feasibility
The worst point in this interview, that too he is stressing it. Yes it is difficult as each state has got it's own government and as he say we may have 23-26 or more existing political conflict on river water sharing.
We all know "Iron Man of India" our first Deputy PM. During independent we had 565 self governing princely states. His job was not that easy where he has to unite all of them and bring one India. If he thought that it is politically not possible or the infrastructure issue or the culture issue & people won't accept we won't be living in the present India.
He made a bold move and today he is a history. During independence 1947 he made it possible.
Yes, his job didn't had anything to do with a wooping 10 lakh crore, but when this project originated it was 10 thousand crore. I mean during 2002. Let's not engulf in to pre independence, but post independence during 1980's think how much it would have cost when Mr. K.L Rao took forward the idea.
China's SNWTP (South North Water Transfer Project) was formed during the same period and got approved in 2002 and the process is on the way and the expected completion period would be 2050. Once it is done it will be the world's largest man made river.
So based on Mr. Janagaraj's interview, political feasibility it is a lame excuse for this project. If it is possible we need a strong leader to take it forward with a vision, else obviously we need to trash it.
2. Infrastructure feasibility
Sir, this is not at all a big concern with millions of man power and the knowledge we posses, I believe infrastructure won't be a big threat for this project.
Unless the point which you made we need almost equivalent of Ganges size river. But, you where not clear about the point 300 ft. Is it for intra-basin or inter-basin water transfer.
Simple, let us assume linking Kaveri - Thamirabarani river do we need that huge size or do we need that humongous size for linking Ganges - Yamuna. My question is, do we need the same size throughout India?.
As you mentioned, let me take the same example of constructing a house. Will you inform your plumber to put 10" pipe in your kitchen or will you inform your plumber to put 1" pipe for washing your utensils, washing your hand nothing much. Will you tell your plumber to put 1/2" pipes for bore water setup or will you tell him to put 3" or 4" pipes to fix it.
You just mention for linking we need to have infrastructure size of Ganges but you where not clear about that point.
3. Ecology disturbance.
This is what we need to think about. But, I do have different opinion, it has 75% to be wrong.
Under ecology disturbance I believe you are also considering. I have no idea about other factors.
A. animal habitats
B. Change in natures life cycle.
C. Polution level
I believe these points will be in your priority list.
A. Animal habitats
We all believe river is mother for 1000s and 1000s of specials depending on it so do Brahmaputra, Yamuna, Jhelum, indus....etc no doubt about it.
But, I don't know how interlinking river will affect the eco system. Already the river Ganges basin is covering 11 states also we are not stopping the natural flow but we are splitting the flow. Obviously the amount of water flow will be reduced during summer which is the fact happening for thousands of years but won't dry or won't have water scarcity (Himalayan ranges). Not only with Ganges almost the same with Yamuna also we have river Testa & Brahmaputra. I don't know why you are repeatedly saying or focusing on Ganges. Animals and mammals have got their own territory and do not move out of them. Best example Ganges dolphin, Royal Bengal tiger, Gharials...etc.
B. Change in natural life cycle
Your major point of view is that, water flow will be reduced ultimately you compared with Chennai cooum river which is an extream case. Major rivers of India are not season based like Chennai cooum instead throughout the year we get water from them thats the major point. Not only humans other life depending on those river has thrived so far because of the unlimited gift. I don't get how the life cycle will be affected.
C. Polution
This one big issue is completely under citizens of India and Indian govt hands.if we polite at some where in some part of the link all the other state will face the adverse. I mean if a set of factories are polluting the river some where I'm North - East it will affect all the other states receiving water from them not only human the entire life cycle will get affected. Polution is a sensitive issue which has to be handled here when it comes to the execution and people need clear awareness about this.
So, based on your interview sir you have focused majorly on the defective side and not giving any solution for the idea which is infront. What has to be done by govt and people to make it happen.
Yes rain water harvesting is a major source but every time during flood some 100's of people lose their life , shelter & family. You will be telling them to relocate or will you inform them to save the rain water?.
About the interviewer:
The interviewer was so good and he was good to the point where he looks like an ordinary common man. If one of us where in that seat and we got opportunity to ask questions what will you do how will you react and he was so patience and calm gave ample amount of time to the speaker to share his knowledge.
