I am a DeWalt guy, to the bone, BUT my buddy bought one of these drivers and it is a great driver. He is driving 8" long, #10 structural wood screws with torq drive, well over 100 per 8 hour shift. It has been performing flawless for the last 4 months. It surely is a FREAK !

I have had the Freak for about a year now and love it! It is awesome and has had the power to do everything I have asked it to do! With my 3/8" adaptor I have all sizes covered in one tool, 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2! Great Bosch Tool. They also just released in the US the 18 Volt FlexiClick drill/driver. Cant wait to get my hands on this tool. Have the 12 volt version and love it. The 18 volt has a hammer drill attachment you can add.

I am not in the Bosch platform yet have the older “Freak”. I am tempted to upgrade to the new model. In reference to the battery, I prefer the 4 amp/hr than 2 smaller 2’s.

I've been slowly switching over to Milwaukee but, Bosch still makes great stuff. I just bought the 6 1/2" 18v circular saw, which came with a free battery and charger and I like it very much. The only thing I haven't liked about Bosch has been the availability. They just don't have as much in the stores as Milwaukee and DeWalt, it's all online. Still lover the quality of their tools though. FYI I just bought a Spyderco Paramilitary 2 and carry it every day. Love it. Made in the USA baby. Thanks for the great reviews Vince.

I have owned the IDH182 for a while now and I just learned it's called the "Freak", and honestly, I really understand it. It is simply so versatile and very useful if you are someone who is into contracting and cars.
The newer revision seems way more powerful and overall more compact than the IDH182, but I will say that I think the LED Lighting is far superior to the old model because of the placement of the LEDs around the drill chuck .

VCG Construction + Bosch + the only tool review channel that can read the box to know about the pro vantage warranty + Core battery = one very happy subscriber! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
One 4amp Core battery please! I have the older Freak, need better lighting more than power.
The most heavy duty task that I use my impact for at work is installing wedge anchors to anchor cameras to masonry on the side of buildings and/or A/V & Data racks to concrete floors. The 12 V PS42 has enough power to perform these tasks, I carry my freak with me so I only need one battery platform when using my rotary hammer.

Damn I got the -1600 model but I do like it out of the box. It is my first impact and has handled my situations with ease so far. Love that it has a light, which is pretty damn bright when you squeeze the trigger. Went to Home Depot and got it for under $90 brand new because they still had sale price and I talked with manager they gave me a few bucks off also. Win win for me!

That's a neat idea. Not super heavy duty though. Looks like the anvil is weaker from the hole in the middle...But it probably doesn't have enough power to break the anvil so not a big deal. If I wasn't invested in another battery tool I might look at the Bosch tools.

Watch out there are 2 almost identical Bosch "FREAK" impacts at the Box Stores, gdx18v-1600 (only 1600 in-lbs) vs gdx18v-1800 with 1800 in-lbs. Both replace the original FREAK model IDH182.

The Bosch Core 4Ah battery is based on five 21700 cells, the smaller ones are based on 16850 cells (half the amps!), so choosing two weaker 2Ah batteries instead of one strong one is not recommended

  • @kevinhuberty5447
    @kevinhuberty5447 4 роки тому +3

In my opinion, I would rather have 2 2ah batteries in the case that one wears out earlier than expected. Lithium batteries can be very tricky to charge if discharged too much below their minimum voltage.

You are best off with a single 4AH battery, stays in the upper 80% range longer if you need the tool to be at it's best longer.
However for the at home DIYer the 2 2AH batteries is often better as they tend to not need the tool to be as powerful but just want the tool to drive a few screws / lag bolts.
You will get more done on a single 4 AH battery than you will on 2 2 AH batteries by something around 30 %.

All my tools are bosch, I upgraded from the freak before this one I've got about 10 bosch batteries already, but I would prefer 1 x 4 ah when buying (in the uk we don't know of it as the freak)
This is slightly smaller than the previous model, very good impact driver and handles really well. In the uk we know it as having 200 nm of torque, it's mot in 1bs per inch. The 32v bosch sds is a real beast, I couldn't do without it, bosch customer service is very good too, under the 3 year warranty, they will send a courier to your house or jobsite to pick up a tool, take it away and bring it back when it's done.

4 amp hour Core weighs 1.15lbs
      2 amp hour .75lbs
.4lbs or 6.4oz is the difference
Core 20700 4.6oz per amp hour
Traditional 18650 6oz per amp hour
All depends on how you want to look at it.😉

I would much prefer the bare tool option to the question as posed.
I don't want to pay for a new charger with every tool I buy.
I dont want to pay for a bag/box with every tool I buy.
I am a contractor, and a Bosch guy. I have a respectable variety of the 18V tools. I much prefer the higher amperage ratings, but the 4.0 Core18 offers good power at a great weight, in a slim package. I have nothing but good things to say about the Core18 batteries. From personal experience, I can't think of a single day on the job where I have run out of power, with normal usage, while starting with a full battery.

I’m currently on the craftsman platform for my company as a start up I’m looking to switch platforms craftsman is unreliable and their customer service sucks. I have the Bosch measurement tools currently and the Bosch 12v platform which is an amazing platform. I’m hesitant about the 18v Bosch platform because it’s limited on tools unlike DEWALT or Milwaukee. What’s everybody’s opinion I’m stuck lol.

    • @tomhajek8602
      @tomhajek8602 3 роки тому +1

I am a contractor and use a lot of Bosch tools. The Core 18 battery platform is spot on. Long life, good power, charges well, doesn't really heat up. I have only once had to use the warranty, and it went as well as you could hope as a tool owner- dropped it off at the local service center, and within a few days got a call to pick up the tool. No hassle, no cost to me. Some of my teammates are Dewalt guys, and I'd put my tools up against theirs any day.
As to your point about breadth of offering, you are right. It would be nice to reach for the 18V palm sander, or router, but Bosch doesn't have those.
They do, however, have remarkable dust control systems for their concrete boring tools.
So, to throw in my 2 cents, the things Bosch does, are well done. They just don't do as much as some of the other vendors.
You can put together a respectable cordless power package and augment it with corded power and for most trades have no problems.
Plumbers should definately steer clear, though, as there are no tubing cutters, press tools and the like.
I suppose the "what brand to buy" question will bring answers as varied as the "van or truck" debate.

Bosch has a good idea but it seems they went about it wrong.
1: I feel the tool for one needs to have more power if you are going to put a 1/2” drive on it other wise it’s s useless 1/2”.
2: it should have a selector for 1/2 or 1/4” changing the power range. Getting a good power boost while in 1/2” mode.
3: it should still have a three position power mode for the 1/4” and 1/2” mode.
Then hi would have had a awesome tool.

Yeah the torque just doesn't seem up to snuff for applications where'd you would need a 1/2" drive. Maybe a 3/8" drive, but not 1/2"

Rookie question but on let’s say a Bosch hammer drill, which gear/speed is higher speed lower torque and which is lower speed higher torque?

I hope they make the m12 right angle impact ratchet with a socket like this.

I think companies should call them that “Impact Ratchet” …instead of “Impact Wrench” though! here’s WHY :
the truth is based on “manual” ratchets that have “square anvil” that you attach sockets to them, and because; they basically works with ratcheting mechanism when they’re twisted by arm and makes that click-ing sound,
unlike “wrenches” they’re basically metal arm that have a “U” shaped groove/space at the end of it and can be placed directly on fastener/nut!
Well, …this is “Freak” ing informations not so many ppl pays attention to, or even know the difference Lol 😆

I don't think you can do less than a 4Ah on that "Core" battery because it only has 5 cells, 3.7v x 5 is 18.5v
With that said, i have a Bosch hammer brushless drill that i love and use it for everything with two 2Ah batteries and one 6Ah battery. I never use the 6Ah battery because it weighs too much and feels clumsy, but it's good to have if I'm not going to be around my charger or other batteries for a while. The 2Ah batteries don't get hot ever so they can charge quick (under half hour) and that's enough to keep swapping between the two all day on the toughest jobs. Buddy has Ryobi with 3Ah batteries and those things stayed warm for a while and wouldn't want to charge fast enough because they where to hot, so he had to get a multiple battery charger and extra battery (3 to keep working on fully charged batteries).
