I bought a 79G when I was a young man....maybe 14 or so, 1980? My Pop ordered it through the local gunshop and he took me with him to pick it up. Shot it alot and finally took it apart for no reason at all, and couldn't get it back together. Recently got ahold of a .22 cal model 78G that needs re-sealing. Thanks so much for the how-to vid. Subscribed.
@@subterfusion4005 “…took it apart for no reason at all, and couldn’t get it back together.” Hahahaha!! This sentence describes my entire early adolescence from about 12-15. My parents thought I had a cognitive or behavioral disorder. But it was more like my talent for the tear-down was a couple years ahead of my talent for the rebuild. Thanks for the memory!
Another excellent installation. I have seen every episode, several of them more than once. Thanks for your efforts. I purchased one of these 79gs at a local sports store when I was a marine stationed in Hawthorne Nevada 75-77. It was a nice shooter, definitely an improvement , quality and performance-wise, over the Marksman Repeater I put thousand of bbs through back at home before enlisting. But at the end of the day, although my respect went to the S&W, my heart remained with that knock-around plinker religated to a bottom drawer back in Jersey.
Thanks for this very interesting and helpful video. Got one 79G today for a reasonable price and now I‘m waiting impatiently for the service kit coming all the way from the US … 🍻
Thx for showing this. Ive been looking and wondering for years what i had as a kid. I had one of these and got rid of it. Didnt know much about it because it was the 1990's and there was no google around. I wish i still had it.
Great video showing the job that anyone buying one of these old CO2 pistols can expect to have to do in order to shoot with it.. Besides replacing the O rings, you can also replace the poppet valve (also available on the Bay!), which supposedly improves performance and eliminates the original valve with the seal that it's very difficult to replace. Never chronographed my 79G, but it's a cracking pistol!
I like to call mine the S&W 77.5G Nicely customized 78G with a .20cal 9.5" Lother Barrel, custom moderator & improve power valve frame stript to bare metal with the rust of the body coated in medium gray. Beautiful made two tone gray wooden grips. Started as a nice early 78G with power adjuster & adustable trigger. Topped with an Adco micro re dot. Such a fun gun to shoot with extremely good accuracy. Great guns bone stock I would recommend any airgun fan who's into the 70's & 80's classic to buy one. If you can't tell I am proud of this one 😊
Not seen one of these here in the UK, I do have a couple of Crosman Mk1s, a 600 and a Schimel, but as far as i can tell none of these SandW models were imported into the UK. id love to get one.
Nice job man! I would love to se the first stage speed when u have the Hammer on max. You didnt like the trigger that much you say, cant you set it lighter? Thx again for the video
nice video. I was yelling at the screen as you were trying to take the top off. I have rebuilt several of these. they are very nice shooters

Nice, and so it lives again! I'm sure the owner is happy with the repair.
Thanks for another interesting video. That certainly looks like a lovely pistol.
I bought one still in the box about 15 years ago, forgot I even had it!

Great video and a lovely gun.
What a gorgeous set of pistols
Another that I need to add to my "find one some day" list lol.
This is the pistol I want the most. Try & find 1 in England is almost impossible.

Hello, love your videos! Would you consider covering the bakali mp-61? Its a side lever russian made airgun that uses a 5 shot auto indexing clip.
@ 31:57 I can see gas escaping from the hammer opening, is that normal?
Hi where i can buy used one .thank you. DAN
If you seal the pellets port better, can get more speed because the gun have a leak there
good try, but too much out of frame handlings, although the light and zoom are perfect,
Also no disturbing music , so i give a 9 on 10 Thanks .
Power increase possibly due to your hand warming up the gas a little.
