    Hurdle tip: try to jump as low as possible without touching the hurdle to waste less time and gain more speed on the race.

      You don't really jump over it otherwise you lose speed in between.

      But yeah I'm 6'1 14 with long legs and I learned how to do hurdles in 2 weeks, these people are jumping over it you're not supposed to jump you're supposed to kinda run through it and keep your stride I guess... Not run through it and hit it but.... This shits hard to explain

      I'm guessing the people commenting that you don't have to "do" to coach, have never had gym teachers who were out of shape. It's frustrating having some tell you you're doing poor in a subject they can't even attempt, such as running a mile.

    Drew doesn't have very good form. He jumps way too high and loses momentum that's needed to maintain speed to the next hurdle. Ideally, the hips would only move vertically a few inches while the upper body crouches down to keep the cg low.

    buzzfeed get ur facts right, runners don't have to jump over the hurdles, everyone does it coz it's faster and safer then breaking through it which is allowed.

    so much studded-stepping. so much deer jumping. the former hurdler in me is cringing.

    • @cyn_na_mini
      @cyn_na_mini 8 років тому +2

      ooh, ooh! lemme guess! studded stepping is when their feet kinda hesitate and do a double step before they jump, and deer jumping is having their legs splayed out to the side? am I even close?

    • @ZombieChimpanzee
      @ZombieChimpanzee 8 років тому

      yes on studded stepping, deer jumping is when they excessively jump vertically while going over the hurdles.

    • @MissJessyeNorman
      @MissJessyeNorman 8 років тому

      As deers don't splay their legs, and the OP said deer jumping is when they jump excessively high when crossing the hurdle, I doubt you're right on that count. But, your explanation for studded stepping makes more sense. Still, as I am not at all in the know--I could be totally wrong ;)

    • @cyn_na_mini
      @cyn_na_mini 8 років тому

      Yeah, that was a random guess more than anything. So does that mean that hurdlers are supposed to be as close to the hurdle as possible?

    • @ZombieChimpanzee
      @ZombieChimpanzee 8 років тому

      yeah, when you jump really high you waste energy and time moving up not foreword is what I was taught.

    • @maxarnold4858
      @maxarnold4858 6 років тому

      The lead leg is not supposed to be straight. You need to drive your knee over the hurdle. Keeping your straight could lead to knee injuries

    • @kurtfrancis4621
      @kurtfrancis4621 6 років тому

      Lead leg should be whatever straightness results in the quickest time getting it back down to the track. Straightness is not the goal...getting the lead leg back down to the track the fastest is the goal. The more time you spend in the air results in a slower race.
