i don’t think you have to do it with ur hair in the middle, but it might help even the curls/waves out i did my hair a similar way with my hair parted to the side like normal and it turned out pretty okay. nice way for me to get a cute style without heat

Use a bathrobe tie or a cotton scarf instead of socks (cos they are longer) and when you're wrapping your hair around it don't go too horizontal (hm) - try to go more like in the diagonal down (damn it's hard to explain). Hope it helps
