Gabe has been slowly warming up to the Beatles. He has enjoyed the later stuff. Nick has him listen to Let it Be for the first time ever. This is easily one of the Beatles best songs.

What Gabe doesn't get is before the Beatles there was 1950s Rock n Roll. Michael Jackson was the King of Pop but it was the Beatles in the early 60s that ushered in Pop which was a totally new sound. The Beatles are credited for creating at least ten different genres. They were together for only 7½ years but just about every few months they transformed music into something never heard before. They invented and reinvented music like none other

This was my journey .... I was 11/12 when the first single came out and around 15/16 with Magical Mystery Tour and Sgt Peppers and 18 or so when they split up. In later life I went back to the early 'pop' albums ..... the first 4 albums...... and really enjoyed them, singing along !

Billy Preston was the premier organist & keyboard player in the world when this was recorded and he is the only artist to share label credits with the Beatles on the #1 hit called Get Back, also from the Let It Be album.😮😊

What you reacted to is the single release of Let It Be, released two months ahead of the album. The album version of Let It Be has stronger guitar work in the bridge and in the latter part of the song. I said at the time it was a shame they rushed the single out because the stronger guitar adds tears to the song, making it much better. That's long time friend Billy Preston on keyboards. He played with several bands and had a pretty successful solo career as well.
Yes that's Linda McCartney taking the photos in the video. Yoko added strain to an already strained band as she was always with John. But I think she was just the easy scapegoat for the band breaking up. After they quit touring they just didn't spend much time together. George was tired of only getting two of his songs on albums. Paul and John rarely worked together on songs. Ringo just was tired of the all bickering in the studio. Things really started falling apart after their manager (Brian Epstein) died. Then came the major disagreement over who would handle their business and finances. Paul wanted to start performing live again, George and Ringo were indifferent, and John had little interest in touring. There was far more to their break up than just Yoko Ono.

I agree with you about the album version. Far superior to the single version, mainly because of George's guitar solo but also because of the horn section recorded in that January 1970 session.

@@normandavidtidiman9918 Brass is a horn section isn't it? According to the Beatles Bible channel, in their "On This Day" Community post about the Beatles' last recording session (minus John), there were two trumpets, two trombones and a tenor saxophone recorded onto track 5 by session musicians.

I find it a little irritating when you dismiss their earlier as less mature. They were in their early twenties, so of course it was. Disliking the earlier music is of course completely fine, but commenting about maturity feels silly. Realise that without the earlier music, you wouldn't have their later music - it is development.

Regarding the solo...there are two versions, this was the single version where George is playing guitar through a Leslie speaker which is normally used with a Hammond Organ, on the LP version the solo is a distorted guitar.

The Beatles are the most important influential and inspirational musicians ever. Let it Be was sung at Live Aid. So emotional .Paul said Mother Mary refers to his own mother who passed away tragically when he was young. Also British musicians have always championed black musicians who were appalling not given the recognition they deserved in the USA. David Bowie even lambasted MTV to their face for not playing black artists in the eighties. Amazing

Yes it was Linda McCartney taking photographs; she was quite a well known photographer and, of course, during her time with The Beatles took pictures of many well known musicians and famous people. That little box Billy Preston was fiddling with was known as a Stylophone, which was a small electronic music device, which started being produced in 1968; it had a small keyboard that was played with a small wand that was connected to the box by a wire, so completing an electrical circuit. David Bowie famously used it on his first hit record ‘Space Oddity’, which some will know as ‘Major Tom’. Billy Preston also can be seen playing on the rooftop on The Beatles ‘Get Back’ recording/film. The mid to late sixties was quite a time to grow up; I turned 16 in 1969.

One thing to remember is that the Beatles were a rocking band from the start. The contrast came in what was popular before they entered the scene. Pop music in 1960 was moving away from that new fad a few years ago called Rock & Roll.
The Beatles came on the scene and rocked out I Wanna Hold Your Hand and such. It was so good that labels went in search of bands, especially from England, to meet the demand.
If you think Beatles early Pop was too soft, listen to what Pat Boone was doing before they showed up.

Billy Preston the keyboard player was coopted in to be a critical part of this project. The Beatles had met him around 1960 in Hamburg when he was working with Little Richard and knew that he was the guy they needed to handle the keys. Little Richard always insisted that the Beatles picked up their famous " WHOOO " while watching his performances in the club in Hamburg and I wouldn't doubt that for one second .

When the Beatles first gained traction (after 5 years of playing together) More than 90% of the record market were American teens from 12-15 years old. Their early songs were a marketing plan to become big, then they did mature and do more what they wanted, instead of just what numbers they would get.

The Beatles were young too, but with each album they progressed and evolved. It's just like you have to learn to crawl before you can walk, and walk before you can run. It's the same thing with music, or dance, it will GROW and change. We fans grew and changed along with the Beatles.

1960 record companies wouldn’t release a single if it was 3+ minutes. Radio programmers wouldn’t play it.
British radio was two BBC channels that were definitely not ‘down with the kids’, plus Radio Luxembourg, which was.
1964 Radio Caroline came along, a ‘pirate radio station’ broadcast from a ship outside of British waters. Several others followed.
1964 to 1970 everything changed, music, fashion, design, tech. The Beatles were riding on the first wave.

@AlBarzUK The Beatles weren't just "RIDING" on the first wave.....they STARTED it! Our hairstyles, fashion, music CHANGED BECAUSE of the Beatles. Boys (and girls) started growing their hair long, and when they other British bands started pouring in to the U.S. that increased the hair, fashion and music that STARTED with the Beatles. The Beatles OPENED the door for all the other British bands and singers, as well as the MOD fashions that were created initially by Mary Quant in London, and U.S. Teenagers (like me, I was 16/17 years old in 1964) GLADLY jumped on all that and wanted to look JUST like the Beatles girlfriends with the longer straight hair and bangs, plus the style of clothes the British girls wore, same with many of the teenager boys who wanted to LOOK just like the Beatles and many of them started learning guitar and drums and forming their own bands. It was a WONDERFUL time for us then

The "Get Back"documentary is over eight hours long. This version is from the single "Let It Be". I by far prefer the version from the "Let It Be" Lp. George plays a much harder guitar solo.
That was Billy Preston playing with them. He stopped by the studio while they were recording the "Let It Be" Lp. They invited him to play on the track "Don't Let Me Down". They had such a good time they invited him to play on the entire album. Ever since he's been known as the "Fifth Beatle" on that album. You two really listen to the Lp version of "Let It Be".
Like I stated, Harrison kills the guitar solo. Would love to see your reactions and thoughts on this one.
    One footnote here,
Preston and The Beatles had a long history going back to 1962 when they met in Hamburg, Germany. Preston was only 14 and an organist in The Ray Charles Band. The Beatles had been playing residency's in Hamburg since 1960.
The Beatles were older than Preston but they liked him an they became friends.
George Harrison was the baby in The Beatles. In 1962 he was 19, Paul 20, and John 22. I don't think Ringo was even in the band yet, he didn't join until September, 1962.
Pete Best probably would have been their drummer up until they fired him in September and Ringo then joined.
Ringo and Preston would have at least been aware of one another in Hamburg.
He was a member of another Liverpool band name Rory Storm And The Hurricanes. I think Paul was even dating Rory's sister at one point or maybe it was George. The Beatles were very good friends with Ringo at that point.
These musicians were all in the same circles so yeah, Ringo and Preston would most likely been aware of one another. Hope this info was helpful for the two of you.
    Peace ❤❤😅

That was Billy Preston, brought in by George to play keyboards. Billy was one of the many musicians that Little Richard used to use in his backing band, the Upsetters. The Beatles were number one fans of Little Richard; Paul McCartney will often mimic Richard's singing style. Anyway, they knew Billy from those days. If you watch the Disney film documentary "Get Back" George had enought of Paul's bossiness and John's snide remarks about his (George's) songs and quit the band. It took several negotiations before George would finally come back, and when he did, he had Billy in tow with him. Cured the Beatles of their bitchiness in these sessions as they all loved and respected Billy. John even asked Paul if Billy could join the Beatles, to which Paul's response was "it's bad enough with just 4 people.". So it never happened, and they broke up. Too bad. Would have been awesome to see the Beatles performing live again with Billy on the keyboards. Listen to the song "Get Back"-a McCartney song, and you will see how integral Billy's keyboard playing is to that song.

my god, you black guys gotta get over your worship of rap. i'm glad to see you're broadening your outlook a bit. when i was in my 20s i was into all genres of music. jazz, classical, fusion, blues, swing, hank williams and all genres of rock from the 50s through the 70s. but rap freaks seem to be stuck in some fantasy world of some kind. i don't get it. rap ain't that good.
anyway, thanks for checkin' out the beatles. i'd reccomend 99% of their discography. they started out new, exciting and energetic and progressed to vistas never achieved in music before or since. the beatles lasted on record for 7 years and in that short time they became LEGENDS! and deservedly so.

there's 3 versions of this song. there's the version from the film "let it be." the single version which i think is being played here. and the version on the "let it be" album that features a kick-ass guitar solo in the middle and at the end. that's the version i like. check it out. thanks for the video.

If you don't like early Beatles - then you don't like 60's music. It's not like with Jay-Z that's not an accurate analogy.
In the early 60's rock n roll was almost dead, the likes of the Everly Brothers and Roy Orbison helped keep it alive, but there music had a very 50's sound. When The Beatles came along, they created a new sound, a sound so big it became the norm what was known as the 60's. And as the decade went along, The Beatles grew the industry from babies to men. You make it sound like there was his amazing sound going on in the early 60's, and The Beatles came along with their sound, then matured into what everyone else was doing - you have it backwards Friend.

I hated this song too. In my opinion, 11:10 one of their worst songs they ever recorded.

@@anitawhite2669 Do you know what's wild? I don't make new years resolutions per se but I try new things.
I've just started a short novel. No title yet, but it's about the mystery of Lord Bertrand Whistlehog's death.
One of the main characters is a detetective called Anita Sharpblade.
I'm writing it for my bf. As it's in very early stages, I don't have a description for her appearance.
It would be awesome if an actual Anita could help me out with a description of Detective Sharpblade.
(She's a badass with a well protected heart of gold) and her partner is Gregory Melancholy, a shy but courageous in times of need fellow.
If you could Imagine what Anita Sharpblade would look like please tell me. (I am dedicated to her having red hair, though) 😊
