      slickjimmy I picked up the same one their awesome little generators especially for the money. but they do have a low engine oil cut off so you don’t cook the engine.

    • @atlas3863
      @atlas3863 4 роки тому +13

      The low fuel shut off is actually a pretty good idea. ideally you want your generator to be running at 60 MHz at 110 to120 volts consistently. when your generator is running out of fuel it starts spitting and sputtering and cannot generate A consistent 60 MHz or voltage which can sometimes last for several minutes which is not good for sensitive electronics. The low fuel cut off allows to generator to shut down the power properly, which in turn protects the electronics that are plugged in.

    I purchased a Westinghouse iGen2500 last year. It has been fantastic. It's quiet, has nice digital features: hour meter, voltage output, wattage load, fuel level, and how much run time based upon power loading and fuel level. It has a 98cc 3.4 hp Ducar engine that will idle down to around 3,100 +/- rpm and under high load up to 5,500 rpm. It provides quite a lot in it's price range. Definitely recommended!

    No audio of each unit running? That would be a LOT more meaningful than just re-stating a decibel reading that's written on the box.

    • @soundproofguide

      I understand what you mean but the audio of the generators are going to sounds different for each computer or phone speakers and would not be an accurate noise reproduction for an accurate test. The decibel number are at least as accurate as you’re going to get.

    Would have been helpful to have clips of them running so we can hear them. Yes it’s good to know how many decibels, but the pitch of the noise is a big factor too so I still don’t know if I could tolerate any of them.

  • @JamesDavisakaRemguy
    @JamesDavisakaRemguy 4 роки тому +12

    Thank you for this helpful product comparison! I agree with acoustics engineer Jerry Grimes that simply giving a decibel number is not quite as absolute or "unbiased" as one might imagine. It would have been additionally helpful to hear each machine running to get an idea of each sound character (pitch, harmonics, etc.) and determine its subjective effect on us.
    Also, one minor presentation criticism: It is usually discouraged for presenters to read bullet points verbatim. It is preferable to paraphrase each point using alternate - optimally shorter - word choices/sentence constructions.
    Despite these seemingly negative comments, I found your video very relevant and highly professional. I will certainly come back to your channel for any sound-related issues in the future. Thank you!

    I decided to go with a Firman 3200 watt generator from Costco. I would have loved to have picked up a Honda but the sticker shock was too much. For about $640 the Firman 3200 actually has the power to run my RV AC unit.
    3200 Starting Watts / 2900 Running Watts.
    It's slightly louder than what you have shown here but the price is great for the size considering that the Honda 3000 is around $2000. It also has the 30A RV outlet I needed for my camper and even has rubber outlet covers to keep the rain and dirt out. So far I only have about 30 hours on it but it has performed flawlessly so far.
    Parallel Capable with a 1.8 gallon tank
    9 hour Run Time
    Outlets - TT30R, 2 120V Standard (5-20 Duplex), 12V (W/Battery Charging Cables), USB (5V, 2.1 amps), (1) TT-30R (for RV) 120V-30A, (1) 5-20R Duplex 120V- 20A, (1) DC outlet 12V-8.3A, (1) USB 5V, 2.1A
    Built in Tuff-Stuff Handle & Wheels for easy portability and consumer convenience - no assembly required.

    • @therealsparkman
      @therealsparkman 5 років тому

      @@edvanthienen6769 Cheap man always pays twice. I know a Honda is expensive, but you don't have to purchase the EU3000. I have the 2200 model. Its light, runs 9 - 10 hours, has an Eco mode and is only 53bB, runs all of my power tools, and even the AC in my 24' trailer if need be. It also has parallel capability to add the companion to double the output.
      I'm not a fan of Firman, especially the generators because they are always at a high volume noise wise. Briggs and Stratton make a nice 2000 watt inverter that is portable and almost as quiet as these units demonstrated in the video. Just saying.

    The Westinghouse (only a Chinese brand now, not a company) and the Generac GP2200i are nearly identical. Check the construction of the housings. They have to be the same. The WEN is also not far off. They are probably all designed and built by the same company, just differing levels, which account for price differences.

    I use a Honda 2000. LIving off grid I've used it almost everyday for several hours for the last 5 years. Are there any generators out there with a long running time, quiet and as long lasting as a Honda? Would be interested in another brand if it could beat the Honda. Today I thought I would have to get a new one because it kept shutting off even after changing oil and spark plug (only time I changed the plug in 5 years). After all that - my son found I had accidentally shut the air valve off on the gas lid. Nothing wrong with my generator.

    This might be a dumb question, - but with the technology of 2019 going on 2020,
    Im going to give it a shot and ask anyways hehehee..
    What generator out there a person can run and use inside an apartment without the need of taking the generator outside due to fumes and noise or carbon monoxide. ??
    Im curious if one actually does exist. thanks :)

    • @cynthiaayers7696
      @cynthiaayers7696 5 років тому +1

      You would have to put it in a sealed closet, that had access to outside air for intake and exhaust. And the cooling of the motor itself. So you could cram any generator in there you wanted to. Other than that, no.

      Invest in a hand cranked generator, if it has an engine it produces carbon monoxide and will kill you unless it is 50 feet from where you live. You mentioned an apartment. Put it on the complex roof and drop a extension cord.

    It's not always about how quiet it is. My Honda "handi ultra quiet" generator is light weight, compact, easy to use. What they do is have a smaller engine, smaller alternator making it lightweight but have the engines rpms run faster making it a little louder than some but is pretty quiet if someone is gonna complain that it's not the quietest one they can just not complain about it lol

      Here is one. No low fuel shutdown. When your genset runs out of gas, often the mixture goes lean, and the engine speed rises before stalling. This may cause a voltage surge. Rough on tv's. My genset cuts the voltage to zero during engine overspeed. Some don't, I'd try any new genset by running it out of gas with a reg light bulb or voltmeter hooked up first just so I don't blow my six foot Sony by running out of gas!

      25 watts x 2 hours equals 50 watt hours. You could use a small battery and a small inverter to power that small of a load. Try it first though because most inverters are modified Square wave and might put a buzzing sound over the output. If so, you'll need what's called a pure sine wave inverter. I've seen small 300 watt ones.
