Great co-pilot and camera man! Love the video and have to agree with your review of the RT. Had the opportunity to ride a 2022 earlier this summer in the Alps. The most balanced bike I’ve ever ridden. I was sold on it after 10 days riding in all road conditions. After returning to the states and hopping on my 2012 RT, I’ll keep the 2012, but that 2022 was sure sweet. Thank you for a great review. Cheers from NW Florida.

Great job by Cam-era, always great to get kids involved in the hobby. Hey, their little hands reach some places better while cleaning the bike too ;-) I have the MS V4S and love my adaptive cruise control and blind spot detection, one of those things you'd never thought you need. The only thing I'd wish the adaptive cruise would show is the speed of the car in front of you, would allow for earlier decisions to start a pass or move into another lane.

Thank you! The RT is great in cold weather, the wind management is so good that even in cold weather it allows you to "enjoy the ride" and not shorten the ride due to being cold. Plus the heated grips and seat have 5 levels of serious heat, level 5 is just unbearable, way too hot for me, I usually ride with it set around level 3 or 2 for the grips and level 2-1 for the seat and the cylinder heads keep my feet /shins warm. I will enjoy a ride on this down to about 42f then anything below that, I will shorten the ride or just not go. But if it's sunny & clear I'll still go for a short ride, 2hrs or so 👍😁
      take care,
      Scott

Fantastic owners review! Thank you! I've done years averaging 20,000 km on 2 wheels here in Canada, on cruisers (Victory), and more recently KTM 1290 SD GT, and been waffling on what's next. Been all over the map, and really like the BMWs, the R NineT (city), R1250GS (city, hwy, off road), and the R1250RT (hwy). Your review leaves nothing uncovered, and really makes the RT a compelling choice. Well done!

Indeed nice to make part of your experience with the RT - a bike which I won‘t take in consideration at this moment/ this period of my motor career. Obviously it‘s not only a reasonable bike but also one to get smiles with on your face, Scott! And that usually means that‘s a good one. I am still happy with your report over the F 900 and your ideas before I bought one. Go on with your outstanding channel and let Cam be a enthousiast Cam-era, man! Ride safe and have fun!

Hi Scott, long time viewer, first time commenter. Super review and thanks for the attention to wind protection and noise. My next ride will need to be better a dealing with those than the 790 Adv that I’m on now. Living out here in Las Vegas even a half day ride is long and the desert winds are pretty much always in play. Wish more reviewers spent more time on it the way you just did. 👍👍

These are simply FANTASTIC bikes. I have a '17 RT and it has far surpassed my expectations in every way. Handling, brakes, aerodynamics, ergonomics, ride control...simply stellar engineering. I only use the quick shift on the highway in gears 4-6. Lower gears just too harsh for my comfort. Stay active on the clutch and do not switch into neutral at stop lights. If you need to move the bike...RIGHTNOW...then stay in gear. Just my .02. Great video and kudos to the videographer! Great team!

Just shipped my 22 Goldwing DCT over here to Germany, can't wait to get it delivered from my HHGs. Next season is going to be a blast. I looked at this bike before I bought the GW and it was at the top of my list. The ONLY reason I went with the GW was for the DCT (US Traffic Jams terrible) and the wife and I do 2-up alot. If not for that I would have bought this bike. Great review and awesome bike; enjoy.

Your analysis on the price of an Rt vs a GSA is Bang on. This review of riding behaviour is very convincing.
I had a GS for 11 years and the finally traded for an Rt (which i totalled on a dear after 3 month ride). Returning to riding 6 years later I'm amazed how much progress the new GS Shows... but as you proved the RT is :"Ready To ride" roght out of the box. No need to add a bigger windshield, buy options oackage with element you dont want. IT is complete. READY TO RIDE Modifications Additons required=Zero.
    Thanks for the thorough reviews.

Really enjoy your content and style of presentation.

I just sold my 2020 1250RT last week to downgrade to a NC750X for economical reasons. But I sure loved the BMW for what it is. Took it to the Alps this summer on my trailer (family trip) and had a blast with my wife around the Mont Blanc range across 3 countries...good times

Well, depending on your country, the laws are usually not age specific but do state that the passenger must be able to reach all controls, in this case that means foot pegs, grab bar or driver and sit on the seat. But I've also noticed that my son was fitting on smaller bikes sooner than the RT, so sit your kid on the bike and see and go from there.
      take care,
      Scott

Great review Scott. I have a 2019 R1250RT and my appreciation of it just keeps growing. We use it mainly as our 2 up tourer and it is great. We have tried a Goldwing and K1600 but the RT seems to be more nimble and better balanced. I also have a R1250GS (on knobbly tyres) and I find myself jumping on the RT a lot more than the GS. Keep up the great reviews. P.S We were in Munich / Austria (Grossglockner) , Arabba - Dolomites and Stelvio in August. We hired a 2019 R1250RT out of Munich which once again proved to be a perfect choice for the roads and comfort two up. Loaded up it just ate the kms and wasn't shown up on the twisties. I even got to give it a couple of runs over 200km/h on the autobahn and it was rock solid. They are a great touring machine.

Thank you it's great hearing from actual owners of bikes! I've got about 7k on mine now and like you said my appreciation of it keeps growing over time, usually it's the other way around the longer I keep a bike the more I can "nitpick" it but this bike I'm finding it very, very hard to nitpick it or find any fault with it at all.
      take care,

I've owned my 2003 R1150RT for almost 20 years. It's been a good riding bike for me but eventually I will replace it with a newer model, probably a 2019 or 2020, since I'm a fan of the older dash. I've been fortunate enough to own two motorcycles at a time, my RT and several different sport bikes. If I'm honest the bike I get on most often is the RT. BMW makes a great bike and your positive review has bolstered my inclination to buy another one. Great job and BTW your son is a lucky dude. My dad was not a fan of me riding motorcycles.

I just committed to buying a used 2019 1250RT yesterday with 1900 miles on it. I wanted that year instead of the newer ones because I am not a fan of the big screens replacing the speedometer and such. I have a 1996 bmw R1100R now with only 30,000 miles on it. Runs great but wanted a touring bike to do some longer trips on. Only question for me is do I keep them both.

Heated grips and seat are great - especially now Autumn is here. I’m starting to understand the electronics more, which makes the bike even better e.g. mode set to “Road” but damping in “Dynamic”
    Safe riding!

Good stuff thanks. The RT remains a dream tourer for me. Am gratified to see the Wunderlich accessories. I've just ordered my first-ever Wunderlich mods for my ol' '05 R1200ST, a non-adjustable footpeg kit. Am solving an unanticipated problem: The toes of my new Frey-Daytona touring boots (upgrade from regular BMW all-'round boots) are too large too fit easily, making shifting a hit-or-miss affair. If you've covered an issue like this previously, let me know. And congrats on your new production team ;-)

Happy to hear you’ve got on well with your RT! Question for you if you happen to catch this comment, as a former owner of the F900XR, how would you say the quickshifter compares to your new RT? Would you say it feels clunkier? About the same? Smoother even?? I daydream about getting a GS one day as I love to take long moto camping tours, and the clunky quickshifter experience many riders seem to point out puts me off a bit. It’s all relative though right, but as I own and yes, DO go out on multi-day camping tours on my F900R (surprisingly capable of the task!), I wonder how your experience has been having come from essentially the same bike as mine.

This review is like a feelgoodmovie, Scott, congratulations again! The only remorse on this bike could be your bankaccount, but you are evidently more happy than you were with the XR! The little man grows like cabbage (Dutch expression) and offers you a good companionship now, that's nice! What a joy the low grunt of the boxerengine is! The best sound you can have on a motorcycle, it's so relaxing! Allthough I love my F850GS after one year and 10k kms., I only miss that sound of the RS I had before this. BTW: you didn't do the alps tour with your fast GS-friend this year? Should be a piece of cake on the RT!

I had an 08 RT and it was a very good bike. I can only imagine the new RT is even better. I know it’s off-topic, but I still have a hard time with the ultra-modern design of the RT. I wish BMW would give us the option of an old-school style RT in the RNineT line-a slimmer, more classic-looking RT, like the R100RT, and with dials. If either BMW, or Triumph with their T120, could give us that old-style, smaller, basic touring bike, I’d get one. (I know they won’t haha.) Thank goodness for the F750GS Low and the T120 anyway. Cheers, and thanks for that close-up camera work, Cam.

2 knit picks: side mirrors are hard to see vehicles next to you, so i stuck a convex round mirror in the corner of the stock mirror. Friction point of the clutch is almost at full out. Makes it hard to feather the clutch at low speeds. Super handlng sounds great great dash display, adaptive cruise with auto braking, central locking, among other great things

I have a r1200gs now. Really, really considering this as my follow-up. Bit anxious about my length: 186cm, but with a 90cm inseam. I've heard the GS is better suited for long legs... End of this month I need to have my GS serviced, so I'll try to have a sit on an RT.

Thank you! There is a "high" seat option that is 25mm/1in higher than the standard. Usually when you sit on one at a dealership, the standard seat is in the low position - 805mm, so have them get the key and raise it to the high - 825mm.
      Standard seat: 805/825mm
      High seat: 830/850mm
Here in Germany if you order the bike, there is no added cost to get the high seat instead of the standard.
      take care,
      Scott

Always the most excellent reviews, two thumbs up on your reviews! I ordered a 2023 BMW R1250Rt about 45 days ago, and of course, waiting on it I questioned myself - did I buy the right bike? Trading in a 2012 R1200Rt and 2020 Triumph Bonneville T120 w/cruise control. Answered all my questions, the new BMW will be a great in town commuter, and I have always liked the highway touring capabilities of the R1200Rt, that adaptive cruise feature for lean angle is the first time I heard of that feature. Thanks for a great review, I like it when the host actually puts their own money into a bike after a lot of other test rides...tells me it is a great bike for sure!

Amazing how the technology (reducing speed on lean angle) reveals itself while the user did not know it happened! ???Where you in Dynamic mode or does it do it in all modes?

    • @sterlingemarketing746
      @sterlingemarketing746 9 місяців тому +1

Actually, my understanding is that this is the IMU doing the lean angle measurement and not the cruise. Any mode will adjust the bikes power output while the cruise is set and the bike leans beyond a certain angle.

Thanks for this and the K1600 reviews. I've been waffling between the two and you clarified many points. One question I didn't hear you address: is engine heat a problem? I'm baked alive on my Italian bikes in the summer and reluctant to go German if it's more of the same.

It was a tough choice for me between the GS and RT. I’m the end I chose a GS because of the quality of my local roads and the amount of unpaved roads I travel regularly. I do love the RT though - maybe someday!

I´m spoiled since 16 months and 12000km back with my 2015 RT. I say that the QS on my bike aint smooth, very hard to use and sometimes brutal changes. Very pleased with Contiroadattack 3 GT, waiting for GT of the new 4 model. I think I will jump this new version and se whats next, it,s already twice the money for a new one. I do have a 2004 Ducati ST3 who im cheating with, that is another pleasure I don´t found on RT.
    Lovely sidekick you have :)

This bike can be our only bike for sure. We can do everything with it. Ho, I forgot, it’s not proper to go off-road with. But is it forbidden? No, because it will do some soft dry off road trails too at least for some Kms, no problem at all!

I got mine in December...so far, I'm at the 6,000 milestone...Been on some hi-performance canyon runs and she handles like a sport bike the cornering and braking is top level...the adjustable windshield is perfect as is and it will cruise on the interstates all day at 90-95 mph... the one thing I do notice is the vibration in the handlebars. I did a round trip to Lake Tahoe last Saturday in the twisties at 7,800 feet I went 308 miles on one tank of fuel.

I've done 209kph on a 16 R1200RT with my son on the back, admittedly he’s bigger than yours, however the bike was fine and could have gone quicker. My reason for not going faster was father mode kicked in. Everything you say in this review is not only right for the 1250, but also the 1200. Thanks.

It's not the sport screen, it's the normal or standard one. The "sport" normally comes with a shorter one but I got the standard that comes on the other models.
edit: the sport screen is 100mm shorter than the standard screen...just fyi 😁

Sir, thank you for all your vids - they are not only informative but also inspiring. I'm currently riding a 2018 Suzuki GSX-S750, it's been my first bigger bike (moving from a 125cc bike) but I'm currently dreaming of something for longer tours, so a shaft instead of chain would be ideal. I'm interested in either a Tiger 1200 GT pro/explorer or a 1250 GS but seeing this video... well now I wonder - since I don't plan on doing any offroading maybe an RT? However the weight of 180 kg just plain scares me. Maybe I need a lot more practice to ride it as easily as you make it seem on the parking lot, maybe I need to test drive it to believe the weight disappears magically when it rolls out or maybe both of those things. Either way, you've given me something to think about.

    • @NothingToProve
      @NothingToProve  Рік тому +1

Well, without sided cases on the RT it weights 267kg and the GSA is 268. So put cases on both and they are still the same, with one exception, the RT weight is lower. Food for thought, I even did a video on this :)
