RT is the best bike just as a motorcycle, that I’ve ever had out of 15+ bikes. It has all, no need to buy accessories. And it is very agile. Waiting for the 1300 with a lighter front maybe.
I have a 2009 R1200RT that is simply THE bike to ride. Absolutely reliable, fast, comfortable, spacious, a daemon on curvy roads, a joy to ride. This bike puts a smile on my face every single time I ride. And it’s almost 16 years old…
I'm 28 years old, applying for MD/PhD programs, and I found an outlet through wanting to start riding to get away from the monotony of my studies. Man, you don't know how much your channel means to me. I absolutely abhor the riding community because it seems like a bunch of egocentric people who are entitled to use the road as they please without regard for the consequences for others. And since it supposedly looks cool, guys on channels perpetuate that mentality because it gets views. Motorcyclists, to me, seemed like a bunch of people who wanted to keep up with a certain self-image instead of the enjoyment of the ride. But your channel made me enthusiastic because I see myself doing what you do. Enjoying motorcycles because you enjoy them and bringing your family along for a fun time and a bonding experience. Thanks for being a chill dude and a good inspiration to current and future riders like myself.
Thank you so much for sharing your experience with a R1250RT, I had a R1200RT 2006 back then and could not be happier with that bike, rode 123k in 3 years and not a single complaint, wonderful machine! That lead me to buy last year a 2023 R1250RT, it is 9000km now and riding like a queen of tarmac, your review makes me very relieved as I was wondering if the BMW bikes kept the quality standards that I love so much, love everything about this bike (mine is Alpine white), and feels great knowing it is still reliable as before, big thank you brother, greetings from Belgium 🇧🇪!
@austinmatthews347 Hi Austin, I'm sure you'll ride many happy miles on your new GS, fantastic bike as well, and Italia is an amazing country for a bike trip, it's beautiful there, enjoy your journey my friend, greetings! 😀
I purchased a new to me 2013 1200rt a year ago. I think it’s the best used value motorcycle on the market today. It come with just about everything. Low speed handling or on twisty roads is a dream. The bike will take care of you if you take care of it. Stick to the easy to do DIY maintenance schedule and you’ll never have a problem.
@@clayfarnet970 Hi Clay, you have made a very clever choice buying your R1200RT, it's an amazing machine, a reliable companion for years to come I'm pretty sure! Appreciate your comment, on my side my bikes/cars are always serviced on time at the official dealership, I prefer to stay away from warranty issues if/when something comes up, so... cleaning/detailing is as far as I go, hahaha. Wish you the best rides, greetings my friend! ;)
Looked into this bike recently. Was suprised at the horsepower. Hadn't looked at these in years. Was thinking twin boxsters would be like a Harley HP wise, but they are 20 or 30 more ponies and the whopper, 200+ lbs less weight... That's a gamechanger.
Never paid much attention to these bikes until my neighbor passed away and his widow gave me his RT. It is the most relaxing, most comfortable bike I’ve ever ridden. Just a joy to ride.
Yes, I will agree with you. It is a long distance, bike and very reliable and very comfortable riding motorcycle. Been riding for over five decades and still love riding motorcycles every chance I get. She must’ve thought very highly of you to give you that motorcycle Enjoy! 👍
I purchased a brand new BMW R 1200 RT 132 months ago 11 years in a month I put 63,000 miles on it. It’s been well-maintained. The bike still looks brand new and it has been an awesome motorcycle. It’s only 1170 cc but the bike is fantastic, the reason you pay so much for these bikes is because they are fantastic. I think that BMW puts more effort into making these bikes look great and perform great. I’ve heard people say that the older bikes are more reliable than the new ones. I don’t know if that’s true or not cause I don’t own a new one not that I wouldn’t like to, but the prices keep going up.☝️
Fantastic is obviously personal. I own two Beemers, a RT and a GS. They are good bikes, but fantastic... There are many engineering short comings, on the RT actually more than on the GS. Simple things, like using different size and type bolts to fix fittings. You can take apart all Japanese bikes with a handfull of tools, if you know one Japanese bike, you know them all. Try that with a Beemer (or an Italian bike for that matter). Beemers also tend to need more maintenance than, as an example, a Honda. Speaking from experience here...
I bought new in April 2021 so same age as this review. Got just under 20k miles. Some problems. Engine management light came on at around 15k and it turned out to be the exhaust flap, a renowned problem. Fixed under warranty. I utilised a dealer some 250 miles from home for logistical reasons. On the way home, just 45 miles into my journey, I detected a really bad vibration in the front end that turned out to be a wheel bearing. Got recovered and back to dealer and again fixed under warranty. Now got a letter to say shaft drive has to be lubed every 12k miles and replaced (under warranty for life of bike) every 36k miles. Whaaat! That’s not much more than a chain lasts. And the problem doesn’t seem to have been sorted as newer models bought now still have the issue but now it’s not under warranty and must be paid for as a service item (this is my understanding and I may be wrong as to this latter point). Having said which I do like the bike. It’s very comfy, economical, and has an awesome engine. Mind you that TFT navigation is another story……
I've wanted an RT since I got to demo a R1200RT and then the R1250RT the following year. This year I picked up an 2024 R1250RT in March. I've owned several bikes and this is by far the best all-arounder. It's my first BMW and so far I love it. Every once in a while I missed the insanity of my KTM 1290 SAS, but that is happening less and less. The RT's power is more than adequate, and it's so much more nimble with the 17" front and rear. Yours and Big Rock Moto's content were a big part of my decision to finally pull the trigger and buy the bike I've wanted for years. It turned over 2k miles today!
Interesting reading your comment because I am considering trading my 1290 SAS for the R1250RT. I love the 'insanity' of the KTM but the bike itself loves visiting the shop.
Bought the exactly the same bike based on your reviews, been all over EU and zero problems and my wife loves the comfort. Thanks for the heads up on the bike .
Due to family tragedy, I had to sell my 2020 R1250RT about a year ago. I miss it daily. Truly the best bike I’ve ever ridden: a masterpiece. Bought a friend’s Africa Twin for a deal a few months ago. It feels like a crude dirt bike, and the wind buffeting literally blurs my vision.
My 2017 1200RT has just clocked 50k miles and I think it’s just run in. Likely the best bike I’ve had in 40 years of riding. It’s everything I need and never ceases to amaze me. Should I decide to change it would be for a 1250 likely approved used from BMW, perfect 👍 thanks Scott great feedback over a 2 year period.
Nice review Scott. I've just traded my 2016 FJR ES for a new RT, it's going to be about six weeks until it arrives. After riding the RT back to back with my FJR, I have to say, it really is night and day difference, the RT makes my bike feel like a 600 as it fizzes and vibrates, the RT is just so smooth and far more nimble too. I couldn't stretch to a top box, so it'll have to be my old faithful givi 👍🏻
The 1200 RT was the most practical bike I ever owned. I always used the top box and only had the side cases for long trips. Worked great with cold weather here in Dallas, Texas. My biggest complaint was it did not have the soul that I would dream about. So kept the Harley Dyna low rider s. It I do miss how well it worked.
It’s a fantastic bike, when it works. I got mine in 2023 and already had parts of the motor replaced (loud ticking noise), battery replaced, and most recently the bike was eating electricity even when parked, draining battery, so that had to get fixed also (software update). I still like the bike but God this has been painful for me. Luckily the dealer has been fantastic. My S1000XR has had no problems, you cant win them all 😋.
yeah Scott I agree with everything you say, I have one the same colour and it's just such a complete package, and she can hustle too. I love it, I am taking it back to Germany on the b5 again end of June, my mate is also coming on his rs 1250. thanks for the update man ride safe
Had mine in the shop (Bonn BMW) last week for its 40,000km service. I purchased it in May 2021 and likewise have had absolutely no reliability issues with the bike. The driveshaft was checked and BMW confirmed that the driveshaft will be replaced free of charge at 60,000km (which is something I've been aware of for some time). Even after 40,000km it still feels like a treat to ride!
I heard the drive shaft story. To me this does not sound as good quality... Must be me. On the older Beemers they do last a lifetime with a bit of maintenance.
Bought a 2023 model which is exactly like yours down to the color and top box after listening to your reviews. I’ve been riding for 40 years and owned many bikes and the RT is definitely one of the best bikes I’ve owned and will buy it again in a heartbeat thanks to you for “introducing” it. Always look forward to your posts. Thanks, Scott
Great post as always. I've got a 2022 RT. I have a samsung android and have not had any comms issues. If I'm going on a long ride I plug my phone into a juice pack and toss them both in the tail box. Seems to work just fine.
Love my 2023 1250 RT, it is my daily driver in the US and the only thing that sucks about it is the nav system. Mount your cellphone and use that nav, problem solved. Did a 3600 mile road trip in 11 days, never felt wore out or tired at the end of each day, this bike is simply amazing. I bought mine after watching your first video on it, it was the final bit of info I needed to pull the trigger. Thanks for the content.
@@almccallie4314 Hi, I don't own one,but had the pleasure of riding both the RT and the GS at a demo event.I rode each for almost an hour, and the stock seat was quite comfortable.I'm sure I could have ridden several hours more on it without a break.Hope that helps.Incidentally,I'm 6'1" 220 lbs.with a 32 inch inseam.
I test rode a 1250GSA(wanting one for years) and the 1250RT yesterday and the RT is way quieter than the GSA, way better, the RT was fantastic, the search for a reasonably priced second hand one begins. Thanks for your videos
Hi Scott... totally agree with your comments about the bike... funny thing is i went into my bike shop to enquire about the new model but was not a fan of gps via phone app etc.. rather have stand alone gps... Fate stepped in and i purchased the runout model R1250 RT Elegance in Manhattan metallic... she has everything and more i need... completed 40k kms now and zero problems love it! I call her the GS with a dress.. Ride safe... ride long 👍🍻😎
Absolutely loved my 1250 RT. My bike was recently written off (vandalism) and now I'm having to decide would I buy it again or get the 1300 GS?! Yes I would buy the RT again in a second. Rode it across Canada coast to coast 2 up and it was the perfect tool for the job. But the GS opens up some off road camping so I'm torn. People also say the GS is very comfortable for road touring. Wife loves the RT and is very comfortable as passenger so I think that might end up being the deciding factor.. we'll see!
Agree with all your comments, especially in regard to reliability and touring capability- most of my 1200RT's kms are clocked up with my partner on the back- she loves the comfort. In regard to tyres, I think Michelin Road 6s and RTs are made for each other- after a few other types I'm on my third set of Road 6s having got 17-18,000km off each set- much better longevity than the other brands and they keep their shape.
If you love to tour with your wife and she loves the Trident, just give the Tiger 660 a try!! I have the 1250RT, and had the trident at the same time, which i later traded in for a Tiger 660 and i couldn't be happier. The Little tiger still retains 85% of fun and agility of the Trident, but adds up a lot more comfort, space and wind protection.
Ive subscribed to your channel.. Your one of the best honest UA-camrs Most are owned by manufacturers Your review of the panigale v4s persuaded me to purchase 😊
Great to see another vid on the RT. Missed these for a while. A bit over a year ago you inspired me to buy an RT. I owned a GS but living in NL and commuting all year round, highway, I figured the RT would be a better choice... When in October I totalled my GS in a small accident, I went for the RT. I'm loving it. There are a lot of UA-cam vids on the GS, but not so much on the RT related to my style of riding. Inspired by your vids, I started my own channel about touring and commuting the RT in The Netherlands. It's a nice addicting activity. Thanks for the inspiration. Hoping for more of your RT vids :)
I own a honda st 1300, seems very similar in use. I really like this kind of bike for vacation use, then at home switch to the old xjr. Very nice bike, maintenance is surprisingly cheap.
Good review thanks, love my R1250R but I am in a warm climate, commute on it and need to split traffic. But understand the wind protection when it gets cold or for higher speeds.
One of the mos honest videos I've seen about this bike. Thanks so much!!! I'm getting my RT next week and is my third RT of course there's nothin like it!!!!
Great review Scott. I recently purchased a 2022 model just like the one that you ride. I sold my 2022 R1250GS to purchase the RT. I really liked the GS but the RT fits my riding style better. Thanks so much for the reviews. I always look forward to seeing new posts of NothingToProve. Well done my friend.
Great video. Can agree, have mine (2023) since a month. It is such a fantastic bike. There is no bike with this level of comfort, that you can move around soooo sporty.... I ride it in dynamics only, so good. Although =>>> the price for it brand new: >32k in austria (with everything!). but still no cylinder protection!;-) It is not that big. In reality the RT is the R model with the lowest wheelbase, that's why it handles so well. Also the weight, not so much. The K1600 and the Goldwing are different beasts. The only thing i think with this bike: if you are a tall guy, you probably might feel a little cramped easily. I am small 175, for me very nice. But i think if you are around 190, the ergonomics are not so great (Knee), also the windprotection will then suffer a lot. I guess for tall guys there are better bikes out there.
oh and the navigation with this handy-app = complete garbage! But i don't mind, would not use this anyway. But what i also really not like: this display! It has no advantage at all, i want pure old-school analog stuff!!!! Hopefully the next RT steps back and gives me analog instruments, look at the hayabusa so nice, love those!
I have a 2020 RT, and it is my fifth RT since 1998. It is an amzing moto. The only thing is its weight. I'm 72, 220 pounds, and 6-1" and I'm not getting any younger. If I could find a comfy sport touring that could haul us both of us coast to coast that weighs less than 540 lbs, I'd be all over it. Until that day happens, it the RT for me...l
57 here, with your exact size and weight. I have to admit I dropped mine a couple times. Not in a big way but enough to scratch it and give me a good scare. if I don’t buy another one of these, I definitely want to go smaller.
Thoroughly enjoyed this review, thanks! I always admire this Bike and perhaps next year maybe I take the plunge and add an R1300 RT to my stable. after 30 years riding my K1100 RS I treated myself to an R18 100 year anniversary last year, but I’ve never owned a real touring bike and if I do, the RT would be the bike
Another great review, Scott. I still have my 2022 RT the same Racing Blue color as yours, and loving it. I like the drone circling you in the background 😁.
Another great video. I also have a '21 RT. It's a great machine. As with everyone else, the set up for the BMW nav app is a disappointment. I've gone to a dedicated used phone to leave in the compartment. Will be testing this setup out next month when I have a 4500 mile trip. Thanks again!
Something I have noticed on the newer RT models is just above the TFT screen is a triangled shaped GPS antenna perhaps so when you loose a phone connection it can take over? Perhaps it is something you can add?
Congrats with your RT, Scott! Very nice to see and hear it’s such a great success for you, especially after the XR that couldn’t satisfy you. It’s still actual and up to date so it might last longer with you than the GS!?
Great review, glad you got sorted with your starting issues on the 1300. They don’t seem to be aware of any software update here in the UK, which is rather worrying 😞
Gorgeous bike! I hope it comes in the ASA one day. I’d seriously think of buying one. I currently ride a 2018 Goldwing DCT, non tour for every day and long distance touring. The GW will be hard to beat. Love the RT though. Great review…
I enjoyed your videos, NTP. I think I'm around your age range so what you say rhymes with my thoughts. Like you, I drove home a used '22 RT yesterday and, after sitting a few hours in my garage, lo & behold, there was a small pool of engine oil under the left cylinder. Looks like Valve Cover Gasket is compromised or not seated correctly or bolts are loose. Anyway, I'm waiting for the dealership to reopen tomorrow and see what they can do, My bike is still under warranty. This is my 1st BMW bike after years of Hondas. Let's hope BMW and the dealer will take care of it. Thanks for making relevant videos.
I've had my RT just under 3,000 miles now so not a lot yet really. The stock seat ended up not being horrible but I wanted to check out sargent. I'm about 200 miles into the break in and it's really interesting. Much firmer but not hard. Much more supportive. I'm cautiously optimistic it will be a significant improvement
Hey Scott, I wondered what had happened with your RT. I have an April 2021 manufactured bike, which I bought in November 2022 with 4,500miles (7,200 Km approx.) on the clock. Mine had all the 719 stuff: wheels, engine covers and levers, plus the Akrapovic. It also had the radar cruise, but not the radio. I wanted a new one, but since the war had started, BMW were not making to order, only to stock. Their stock bikes were all fully specced (without Option 719) but included the radio. I specifically wanted the radar but without the radio, so the only way to get what I wanted was a second hand bike. One came in in September 2022 (the one I bought in November). I wasn’t allowed to buy it until November by the Finance Director (the wife) because it was my 60th birthday present and I had promised I’d wait. Anyway, I knew the sales guy from when I bought a new K1200S back in 2006 and he trusted me, and reserved the bike with a nominal deposit of £100. Bikes weren’t really selling in the UK at that point, anyway. The bike I got (you can see it on my channel, where I’ve not posted for over a year (!) RT View From a Pillion. The video is “collection day”.) had been accessorised. On top of the factory fit gear mentioned, the previous owner had added Wunderlich peg lowering, crash bars on engine and cases (I took those off because the look knobby) and what I called the “pizza oven”. The pizza oven is what I call the small top box. I couldn’t fathom why you’d spend all that cash on aftermarket (which the dealer fitted from new) and not buy the top box. I got a 49L Top Box as part of the deal I did on mine. Option 719 gear is not something that I would have bought because I commute to London in all weathers and I hate washing my bike. However, in Shadow Black, it does look really cool. In all, I paid £19k which was probably about €22k in those days. Mine is Police White, as I like to call it, which doesn’t look as cool as yours, but on the Motorway, it’s great for getting people out of the way when filtering (lane splitting). When I flash my lights in a rhythmic fashion I think many motorists see the blue tinge of the LEDs and think it’s the cops. I have taken my panniers off, to make filtering easier. Having them off allows you to squeeze through moving gaps at angles easier. If you have the panniers on, you have to filter in straight lines. I do do it with panniers on as it’s easy to judge because they are less wide than the mirrors. If the mirrors fit you can fit. Having the panniers is great for a number of reasons on top of filtering. Firstly, you have less to wash!! Secondly, the bike looks better, more sporty, and lastly, you can get to the rear wheel more easily to wash it or pump air. I remember you having countless problems with your Connected App and the Navigation. I have had only a few, right at the beginning. I solved the ones at the beginning by putting DND on my phone. I noticed that notifications break the connection. Once I did that and after the update, I have never had a problem with it, and I actually prefer the navigation to Waze etc. It updates the route quickly, if you deviate, and since they added Traffic, it’s really good. So it seems your early production model clearly has a fault…….My early production model came with a fault, a much more serious one. I was coming back from work one afternoon and approaching a massively busy roundabout with 6 lanes. As I approached, I downshifted, except I only managed to 4th. It felt like there was no gear lever. I looked down and it was still there, just inoperable. I was hoping to pin it to beat the traffic lights, but I decided since the rush hour had just started, it was a very risky option. Long story short, it was a gear box issue. It took BMW around a month to sort it out. Now, if anyone has managed to read this far, here’s a tip. BMW tried palming me off with an F850GS which was terrible. I took it so I could be able to commute because commuting by car to London is a nightmare. BMW’s warranty loan bike should be a bike of equivalent or better than what you have. The local dealer tried telling me the sob story, so I contacted BMW UK. Within 15 minutes of my call, the dealer miraculously found me a brand new RT to use. I did have to swap it for another RT, but there’s a lesson for anyone who gets the “sorry, it’s all we have”. I love my RT, and I must admit, yes, when the dealer loaned me one with the Radio I liked being able to listen to the radio as a change to music. The only case I can see for the speakers are if you stop for a picnic and want some music, but riding through the streets in the UK with music blaring is something only a knob does in the UK. I fancy that new GSA 1300 as the roads in the UK are crap, really crap and when I test rode the GSA1250, my wife loved it, but it was the weather protection and radar that swung the RT for me. As you said, the radar is superb. I have even had it save me, when some clown cut into a short space in front of me on the motorway whilst I was looking left at another clown! I wish you many more safe rides and plenty of fun. Ride safely!
Thanks for some great advice/information on this bike as considering this for a while, only this for me on these large, heavy touring bikes is very slow menoovering, garage , backing in parking spaces. Other bmw's have reverse or even a option would be nice you listening bmw?
Well, I really can't think of a better Top Trumps opportunity. RT v parvenu GS. Even BMW can't be upset about the outcome. Do it!!! Excellent vid, once again. I really like your vids. Not just for the content. The dreary, cold, winter weather in your part of Germany, makes England seem semi-tropical in comparison....at times
Beautifull bike. Wish you many more safe kms on it ! Im on my 3rd Indian in 4 years (Scout 60, Challenger, now Pursuit) and i think my next bike, if i dont choose for that american vtwin anymore, will be something like a K1600 grand america.
Kind of wish I hadn't let my RT go. It was such a fantastic ride, but just a touch tall for me. Loved the handing, comfort, and accessories. It's going to be interesting to see what the 25MY RT might bring - some rumors of the GS auto-lowering suspension, even new body work (although I have to say the RT is quite the beauty).
When the R1300RT arrives, you will have your 1250 for three years. It will undoubtedly have blind spot assist, will likely be a bit slimmer and of course will have some extra horses to play with. It goes without saying this is all speculation but the new model is sure to be tempting nonetheless.
The unfortunate truth about the news is BMW is note doing right by their customers. They are pushing out machines to fast and not doing enough R&D. To unlucky consumer is doing the fine tuning for them. To be far all bike manufacturers are doing this.
Agree it is a joy to ride. Alas after 14 months and 18,000km my 2023 RT keyless ride module failed. Lucky I was just running it up to temp for a ride when it shut down abruptly and failed to respond to ignition button press. My local dealership shop says it is the 4th such failure they have dealt with in as many months. Now the bad news. It has been at the shop waiting for part to arrive from BMW with appropriate module to key pairing for 5 yes Five weeks. Still no indication of timeframe. I love this bike but my faith in BMW ability to provide even remotely acceptable service level is shot.
Im searching for a new ride again and considering the RT, GT, FJR1300ES, and Concours. I cant decide. Selling a K1300GT to upgrade. Love the 4cyl smoothness as well as the inline 6 but the boxer and features I like, just not sold on the vibration and buzz after test ride last year.
At 14200 km I'm still on the original rear tyre. Just checked the kardan and to my surprice the U joints do not lign up but do not notice any vibration. Pity BMW do not offer Andriod auto
Got me a BMW R850R 2001 3 years ago. Idd my 40.000 km big chek. 1475 euro. Love my BMW R850R. No ABS no nonsense bike. Total money in 4 years is 4300 euro
Regarding the navigation and the Wi-Fi disconnecting. Depending on if you use Android or Apple, there are phone settings that should pretty much eliminate the Wi-Fi disconnection issues. BMW Motorrad put out a list of phone settings that should be used. Also make sure you enable all the Permissions in the Connected App.
@@NothingToProve Okay. With all the current updates to my 2022 K1600 GTL, iPhone and Connected App, my setup has been extremely stable with no Wi-Fi dropouts. I think you have an Android phone, so that may be a different story. Appreciate your in-depth videos, thank you.
@@NothingToProve I bought a factory refurbished iPhone to be a dedicated Connected app phone for my MY21 RT. Works great and was cheap (b/c it had some dents and scratches). I only keep the app and my music on the phone, and if someone happens to steal it from the 'glove box' during a break, I will not lose any important personal information. Since the 2022 s/w (firmware?) update the app has not dropped the connection. Prior to that I had to reboot the phone on almost every ride.
Bought a 2015 LE for 6k 2 years ago, 30k on it no problems..and if you think these big boys can't hustle..you just havent met anyone who knows how to ride it! Definitely a SPORTS tourer and not just a Tourer
This was my dream bike but when I did a test ride, felt it was too wide and too heavy for my commute into London and opted for a 1250GS instead. Any news/rumours of a R1300RT? A lighter R1300RT would be great.
The one big question is how long do you intend to keep it Having had Honda Goldwing 1500 for 30yrs and 80k miles. Only just changed to BMW R1250R 23 model and love it Still miß the wing though
I got rid of mine due to the lousy TFT. Could never answer a call, play music or navigate at the one time. The quick shift gear box was akin to changing the gears in a truck it was so rough. It was an epic point to point cruiser but the TFT drove me bonkers. Traded it in for an x3 for my wife. Subsequently bought a NT11000 DCT. Great ship arpund ciities but not a patch on the RT re power, deftness in road manners but it doesnt pertain to be a RT. What works a terat is applecar play, no issues with connection and google maps with traffic all there to see and judge. . BMW need to pull their heads of their tails and put apple car play / android into their bikes as their own in house system is imo akin to junk. Rant over.
I bought my 2015 fully eq 21000km for 13000€ in 2021. Normal service with a 40000km major service valve check for 800€ in february in Sweden, seems cheaper in Germany. I did repair left controls for 500€ last year. I will wait for 1300RT to come and see if it is a revolution model. I have 20 years left to ride in best case. Will it be wort 22 to 25 grand to upgrade?
Nicely edited video, i have ridden K1, k1200lt, rt, gs, roadking, road glide , and just sold street glide..i mived to Arizona, and sold the MX’s because of the environment out here with the terrible drivers ( i thought NJ and Boston was bad,.,,,NOPE). One question i have for you sir…leg position…Do you wish you had some sort of hwy, pegs for the rider..to help with knee pain? Also how about the handlebar angle? Since i assume BMW is still using canbus can you extend or change the angle of the bars…? Thanks. And enjoy the journey!
Guess I am disappointed the BMW app still has issues remaining connected to the bike. I found on my Harley with Apple Carplay that I no longer need my phone immediately available. Does BMW offer Apple Carplay or any rumors they will? I might consider the RT when the 1300 comes out provided it has Apple Carplay and the lowering suspension
I must say that with my android pixel 5 the connection and navigation app works perfect, with my iphone and the screenlock..... not oke. What you can do to improve it is to make shure that your phone will not switch to free or open wifi networks automatic or want to switch from 4/5G to wifi to so save data, you can turn this off in your phone and the it will work better.
So jealous of the insurance costs. Here in Malta for my nt1100dct I pay €630 a year. The bmw is a lovely bike but for that money, and with a 10” bike they should really be offering apple carplay and android auto. It just works on my honda and I wont buy another tourer bike without it. Unfortunately that only means I can get the at, another nt or the goldwing.
Bang for the buck is an okay reason (Yamaha FJR might be better), but is it fun to ride? Do you get a silly grin when you ride it? That’s why I still have my K1600 GTL.
You are not always travelling parallel when ducking and weaving while lane splitting. Always mindful of my tail, even on an s1000r with no bags at all.
Great video... Thanks I couldn't find this question... Wondered why the swap out of tires at such short Kms. Are these tires wearing that quick or just a comfort performance decision? How many klicks do you think you'll get on these Michelin?
You must not have seen the 3 videos I've done on this: ua-cam.com/video/KDNfBzEFT3g/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/kW4vgEb9tMM/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/gFKv8GkAq5c/v-deo.html
@@donryan383 Oh, sorry, I've been answering so many questions on the GS video I just put up yesterday, I didn't look to see what bike you were talking about, see when I see the comments it's different for me, I see all comments on all videos on one screen, I forgot to look at your comment and from which video it came from. So, to answer you question now, sorry, I have about 6-7k on them and they still look good for at least another 2k, still love them on the RT!! take care, Scott
@@NothingToProve All Good.. I thought my comment on an old video might confuse. Here is a thought... On the goldwing f6b with my Bridgestone exedra tires lasted 15,000kms or more...I got 18k out of the last set... But yes waited a bit too long to replace. The life span of these 1250 rt tires seems about half the life for the f6b... Both with the dunlop and the Bridgestone experience! Interesting No return reply needed... Just sharing my thoughts... Comments from you and the subscriber base always appreciated! You make great videos and are a reliable resource... Thanks
Yes, I agree ... NTP is a chill dude.
Have fun with med school. My son is in the process of applying.
👍
All my neighbors give me are leftovers from their Thanksgiving meal.
Where do you leave? I'll move to your neighborhood 😆
Damn
Lucky you!!!!
Who knows, there could be a 1250 GS in your future, instead.
@@randyvanvliet226 I think you’re pretty intuitive. 😉
Probably the best two wheel travel tool there is!
So, you own this AND the 1300GS? That´s the perfect garage. Well done, Sir👍
Thanks for sharing. Always enjoy your videos.
I have one and I love everything about it except for the connectivity issues. I also didn’t like the seat and replaced it with a Russell Day Long.
That’s what my wife says:- You can get rid of all bikes, but the BMW 1250 RT is here to stay!
And I have to agree that she’s absolutely right!👌🏻
I prefer the looks of the RT,but to me,the GS fits like a glove with perfect riding position and comfort.
Travelinben, do you have the stock seat? How long can you ride before it gets uncomfortable? Thank you
@@almccallie4314
Hi,
I don't own one,but had the pleasure of riding both the RT and the GS at a demo event.I rode each for almost an hour, and the stock seat was quite comfortable.I'm sure I could have ridden several hours more on it without a break.Hope that helps.Incidentally,I'm 6'1" 220 lbs.with a 32 inch inseam.
@@travelinben1966 ok, many thanks. Best wishes on your adventures.
Ride safe... ride long 👍🍻😎
I think the RT might be the largest sport tour currently. Glade you are still loving it Sir.
Great review of a fabulous machine, thank you for your honesty!
I have a blue 2021 from new. Fully agree with your review
Your one of the best honest UA-camrs
Most are owned by manufacturers
Your review of the panigale v4s persuaded me to purchase 😊
Hey great! Glad I could help with decision of the RT! It is a great bike. Good luck with your channel!
Take care,
Scott
I own a honda st 1300, seems very similar in use. I really like this kind of bike for vacation use, then at home switch to the old xjr. Very nice bike, maintenance is surprisingly cheap.
Im seriously surprised how sporty the RT is for such a big bike. Glad to hear you are still loving yours.
Kullandığım en keyifli en konforlu motorsiklet
Good review thanks, love my R1250R but I am in a warm climate, commute on it and need to split traffic. But understand the wind protection when it gets cold or for higher speeds.
Great Video! I ride my RT1250 for ~25000km a year.... I love love love it....
Good overview, I have to testride one on some day 🏍
Great review. Will be getting one for my birthday in November.
One of the mos honest videos I've seen about this bike. Thanks so much!!! I'm getting my RT next week and is my third RT of course there's nothin like it!!!!
My 2003 RT 1100 really had superb engineering and super sexy design.
La RT est la reine de la route ! 😍
Although =>>> the price for it brand new: >32k in austria (with everything!). but still no cylinder protection!;-)
It is not that big.
Still loving my 2019 719 Blue Planet RT. Brown seat and all. I may need to replace the foot peg feelers soon 😁
Great review, I'm still deciding between this and a Tiger 900 GT.
Tried them both, I own a bmw r1200rt and I would not change it for the tigger, no comparison
Great update, love that color!
Hey Scott,
I wondered what had happened with your RT.
Great bike. The 1300RT is going to be incredible.
Im on my 3rd Indian in 4 years (Scout 60, Challenger, now Pursuit) and i think my next bike, if i dont choose for that american vtwin anymore, will be something like a K1600 grand america.
nice bike, I think when I will be like 100 y/o I will buy it to get some rest after Adventure/Enduro riding ;)
Yea, that will be interesting...to say the least.
I have the big brother 16 - exceptional machine- it’s twinned with my 1250 GSA - a perfect combination ….
Beautiful bike. Man I'd love to have that to tour here in SoCal over to AZ or NM or NV etc...up the coast of CA to WA. Ugh I need another bike lol.
I'm a 1250 GSA rider and I am afraid this might be my next... getting older 😎
Yea, I'll be 57 this coming Saturday, but I don't feel like it but I do love this bike, so that must mean I'm gettin' old LOL!

Happy early birthday!
Done that many, many times, spent hours and hours making sure every setting was set correctly, even did a video a while back on how to get it right.
@@Rambler358 Yea, that may well be, so I have to get and iPhone...sigh...😊😊
@@NothingToProve I bought a factory refurbished iPhone to be a dedicated Connected app phone for my MY21 RT. Works great and was cheap (b/c it had some dents and scratches). I only keep the app and my music on the phone, and if someone happens to steal it from the 'glove box' during a break, I will not lose any important personal information. Since the 2022 s/w (firmware?) update the app has not dropped the connection. Prior to that I had to reboot the phone on almost every ride.
@@NothingToProve 👍 LOL
Bought a 2015 LE for 6k 2 years ago, 30k on it no problems..and if you think these big boys can't hustle..you just havent met anyone who knows how to ride it! Definitely a SPORTS tourer and not just a Tourer
This was my dream bike but when I did a test ride, felt it was too wide and too heavy for my commute into London and opted for a 1250GS instead. Any news/rumours of a R1300RT? A lighter R1300RT would be great.
lol! I keep checking the Motorrad website to see when they release the 1300 RT! Let’s keep each other in the loop. 😉
The one big question is how long do you intend to keep it
Having had Honda Goldwing 1500 for 30yrs and 80k miles. Only just changed to BMW R1250R 23 model and love it
Still miß the wing though
good stuff scott😃
Sorry if I missed it but how many KMs have you done?
Thanks for your videos.
Rant over.
Top touring bike.
Very good vidéo; i'm french ( i own a 1250GS hp 2019). What do you think about thé gearbox and shifter of the 1250RT compared to 1300GS ?? Thanks
99% they won't. They teamed up with tom tom and came up with connected drive navi.
Earned my subscription 👍😊
I must say that with my android pixel 5 the connection and navigation app works perfect, with my iphone and the screenlock..... not oke.
What you can do to improve it is to make shure that your phone will not switch to free or open wifi networks automatic or want to switch from 4/5G to wifi to so save data, you can turn this off in your phone and the it will work better.
Would you say that the top case is a must for longer ride passenger comfort.
Absolutely.
Yes
How does it compare to your 1300GS?
The issues with sat nav disconnecting is a concern,, if you can't rely on it then it's useless..
What causes it?
Hello , can you make a video compare the garmin gps vs bmw ? I need to buy one 🤔 thanks
I think you need to distinguish between the rt 1250 with transcontinental as the same manufacturer
Bang for the buck is an okay reason (Yamaha FJR might be better), but is it fun to ride? Do you get a silly grin when you ride it? That’s why I still have my K1600 GTL.
Hi mate, I think (almost certain 😇) you have the high seat if I look at the shape of it.
Regarding filtering/lane splitting. Isn't the bike widest at the rearwiev mirrors? (Not the side bags)
You are not always travelling parallel when ducking and weaving while lane splitting. Always mindful of my tail, even on an s1000r with no bags at all.
The RT keeps calling to me, but I bought the 2024 GS because I'm more 'sport' than touring at this point 🤣
Great video... Thanks
I couldn't find this question... Wondered why the swap out of tires at such short Kms.
Are these tires wearing that quick or just a comfort performance decision?
How many klicks do you think you'll get on these Michelin?

@@NothingToProve Actually curious about the Michelin 6 tires you installed on the 1250RT and their life span in kms
@@donryan383 Oh, sorry, I've been answering so many questions on the GS video I just put up yesterday, I didn't look to see what bike you were talking about, see when I see the comments it's different for me, I see all comments on all videos on one screen, I forgot to look at your comment and from which video it came from.
So, to answer you question now, sorry, I have about 6-7k on them and they still look good for at least another 2k, still love them on the RT!!
take care,
Scott
@@NothingToProve All Good.. I thought my comment on an old video might confuse.
Here is a thought... On the goldwing f6b with my Bridgestone exedra tires lasted 15,000kms or more...I got 18k out of the last set... But yes waited a bit too long to replace.
The life span of these 1250 rt tires seems about half the life for the f6b... Both with the dunlop and the Bridgestone experience!
Interesting

If you plug the phone in to the usb rather than using wifi does it fix the nav problems?
No. The USB is only for charging
