  • So I was getting tired of the terrible fuel mileage my new camper van was getting. I owned the same model van back in Tennessee that got 17 mpg on the highway. This new van I got would only average 14.5 on the highway... safe to say I researched and found some amazing fuel economy hacks for my GMC Savana that helped me reach almost a 3 mpg increase on the highway! Follow along to check out these amazing fuel economy tips.

A cargo van, lol, of course you get 17mpg. My 93 350tbi conversion van never got over 14.7mpg/city 12.5/highway with a 3.42, now its a 3.73 that got close to 14mpg both. you think you got bad fuel mpg, mine was getting like less than 10, perhaps 8.5, I thought we were doing the test wrong, but with leaky injectors, crappy black oily spark plugs, a collapsed muffler, XD LOL its bound to happen. Hopefully with a refurbished injector pod, it wont leak anymore. so annoying, checking everything, new injectors, fuel filter, fuel pressure regulator and it still leaks like a ton of bricks. even bought a tbi pod injector spacer just to see if that brings up the HP.
Cant wait to buy the Silver Brisk spark plugs and a Pypes 3" muffler. Maybe I will get 17mpg then.

I do it every other tank or every third tank just as a precautionary. You could get away with probably doing it every 5-6 tanks of fuel.

So new plugs, new wires also?

Yes, I did new plugs and wires. And as far as the fuel injector cleaner, I do it every single time just as preventative maintenance but you could probably get away doing it every 5-6 tanks. What I do is I buy a little bottle of the lucas, then I buy a big bottle. Use the little bottle as a measuring bottle and the bigger bottle to fill it up.

tune ups on a van are a PITA!! I wouldnt have buttoned it up until I started it though, its also a might as well time, might as well change the pvc, air filter, clean the map etc etc.. my 2000 gets 12mpg but it has a swapped in 1ton rear, it gets 12mpg empty or pulling a mud truck and trailer up a mountain.. adding a few pounds of air can help a little.. I run 37psi in my trailblazer instead of 32, it isnt a significant improvement.. take off slow and easy and lift well before traffic or signal light.. do the speed limit and use speed control as much as possible. you might also try running lucas trans goop

Lower the driver seat then you will be more aerodynamic when driving.
