For the Petronas Twin Towers, there are some facts to be added : 1) The 2 main buildings are built on steel tubes with glass outer wall with a shape of the Rub el-Hiz with a circle extending out. The buildings are also being split into layers, with each layer getting smaller as the height increases. 2) The twin towers are sat on a base (which is not shown in the video) spans an area much larger than the sum of each tower's base. The base serves the shopping mall, exhibition halls, educational theme park, and aquarium. It also serves as a base for some other shorter buildings like Petronas Tower 3, Maxis Tower. 3) The twin towers are being linked together with a 2-storey walkway in the middle, supported by 4 tubes, 2 on each side.
Geez, I remember the Burj Khalifa being a big deal when it was finished, but seeing the Jeddah Tower being a new one in construction really makes me realize how far humanity has gone.

I will never consider the Petronas Towers taller than the Sears Tower, especially since the Sears Tower has occupied floors that are higher up than those of the Petronas Towers. I honestly don't feel like spires should count toward total height either, regardless of being a permanent fixture.
What’s even funnier is in some of the original designs the Sears tower always had antennas on it and you can remove spires just as easy as antennas it’s a bunch of bs

An interesting thought: What is going to happen when they need to take these buildings down in the future and they will because all buildings exceed their life span?
They'll probably need to completely strip the buildings down to their steel and concrete "skeletons" before removing the "bones". You can't just use wrecking balls or explosions for something that size.
Mr Fazlur Khan was the brilliant structural engineer from SOM who invented the tube system for Highrise buildings he was not the architect like it was said in the video

let me ask you something let's say, in another universe, there are two really tall buildings, one being only 1 meter taller than the other, which is the highest? obviously the one with a 1 meter advantage. but what if, on the shorter building, a 2 meter man goes to the rooftop. is the shorter building taller now? no, because the man is not part of the building, it doesn't "add" height. a spire is literally a part, section of the building that completes it, while an antenna is a bonus, sometimes being installed years after the construction of the building has finished, so it doesn't add height to it. i am not defending this system. It's dumb and i also dislike how it makes conflicts like this between buildings such as the petronas towers and the sears tower, however it makes sense why that is. it would be better if we just count height for highest floor, though.
@@enchantedhamburger8934 I get what you’re saying but there’s a pretty big distinction between an inanimate object installed onto a building and a person standing on top of it. Either way, not counting an antenna that is physically attached, because it isn’t part of the overall structure, would be like not counting a small bump-out room to a building as part of its overall square footage, just because it can only be accessed from the exterior.
Height of a building should be measured by top apartment or office on minimum square meter. Having antenna on top should not be counted in my mind. If im rich and build 1500 antenna on my appartment which is 4 floors tall, do i have tallest building in the world? Oc not.
3:48 this really isn’t fair first you can’t even go inside the spire and plus the antenna is likely to never be removed and I think you literally can go inside the antennas on the sears tower
