Why not switch to a military engineer, though? All engineers have at least those two paths: either civil or military. You might be happier in the latter since not a lot of giant buildings are built, but military engineers always have fun.

I have always been fascinated by megastructures like these and I always wanted to visit this building and see it in person. This week, I was finally able to travel from Mexico and see it with my own eyes and… it is a MONSTER!!!!!
Just trying to imagine the workers assembling parts of the structure at such heights was mind blowing.
You can barely see people walking down the street but they look like tiny dots that look more like some type of tiny insects. Keep in mind that this was from floor 154 and that there are still more levels above. Just really impressive!!!

Apparently an assessment found that in case of an earthquake, soil up to sever meters deep could liquefy but not below that. Since the foundations are deep enough, we probably won't see the Burj Khalifa sink and topple over. Probably.

Back when I was in school, watching documentaries about this fascinating building and literal peak of human-made constructions was my greatest motivator for me to study civil engineering. For unrelated reasons, I ended up studying something different, but every time I look at such phenomenal results of human engineering and science, I feel a bit regret for not studying something civil/mechanical-engineering-related. Maybe, some day. Until then, at least I can still remain baffled by what we have achieved already.

lmao old outdated story. The whole area the burj was built at (downtown dubai) was rapidly being built from nothing. when the burj finished the sewage system wasn’t complete so they used trucks to move the access waste temporarily and until it was complete. They haven’t used trucks for years but people loving bringing up this urban legend

I can't be the only one with an irrational fear of being in tall buildings. I'd be so scared thinking of it falling down with me inside. I'd worry the ground isn't stable enough. I know it's natural for skyscrapers to sway a bit in the wind, but if I were in a building and it started to do that, I'd actually probably die of a heart attack. During my stay in Vegas on the 34th floor of a hotel, I had to remind myself daily that the building has stood for a long time and that it most likely won't suddenly collapse.

As for the lightning rod. I think you need to double check this one.
The lightning rod is what we call ESE. Early Streamer Emission air terminal. It will not use a battery to generate an opposite polarity. More of like it is already inherent in the atmosphere. The ESE detect the type of polarity due to events prior a lightning strike.
To make it simple, lightning is generated due to opposite polarity that is why it hits the ground. Being said that, the polarity that attracts the lightning is already in the atmosphere near the ese. Light comes out when this two polarity meet.
The battery that you are talking about the video might be the lightning counter.
