  • I show the viewer many different calls that I've made! Now I'm going to sell a few! The number one call that I make and which is regarded as the nation's best call ever, is the Neil Cost Boat Paddle! I worked with Neil back in the late 1980's and he showed me a thing or two about making a good turkey call. Neil passed away in 1992 but now over 200 calls later, I've got the process down pat, so I'm going to offer a limited edition. My boat paddle is identical to Neils and will sell for $200.00. It's will be one of 500 and be signed with a description of the wood and the call itself, just like Neil used to do! It will be a collectors item but it will be a real turkey producer. It's to be hunted with!

One of my prized possessions is a Roland and Scott t-shirt that they both autographed for my wife at a tournament on Lake Champlain. I remember being 18 years old and watching a RM video teaching how to Texas rig a worm. I went out and got all the stuff, walked down to the lake and did just what Roland told me to, low and behold it worked. I caught a bunch of nice bass right off shore, couldnt stop smiling, I felt like I was some great seasoned bass fisherman catching those fish in front of all the other people there. 30 years ago. I never stopped.

I follow for the fishing... but I could sit and listen to your experience about anything Roland. You could be talking turkey calls, snowboarding, basket-weaving, whatever.. but I know id still learning something great.
Thanks for all that you do. And thank you for your knowledge, education,, and effort in making these videos. I really look up to you

Still a legend. Enjoy watching these videos. All those years I watched you on TV, I never knew how talented you were at other things as well such as your wood working. The bowls you make are absolutely beautiful and the turkey calls are amazing!

Roland CEPS By Smith's is a great water proofing epoxy, I'm not sure how it will affect the sound. It's used in wooden ship building... hope that helps & thank you for sharing.

What is this magic paint you use? I use pine rosin instead of chalk on some calls, others sound better with chalk.

Roland, I make cedar wood plugs and I soak them in a diluted Marine Spar varnish, 50 50 with mineral spirits .Soak your wood for about 45 minutes then let dry for a day. I paint over mine then epoxy over that. You probably would be fine with just the first step. Hope this helps you water proof your calls.

Nitrocellulose... I bet that's the answer your looking for. Early guitars builders like Fender use it.. expensive custom guitars use it today. It's very thin and effects the tone very little because its thin, strong, and water proof
