Matt, I have to tell you, I took your advice using a contentment call when a gobbler was hung up 60 yards away. I faced away from the gobbler as if walking away using a contentment call, and immediately he jumped the ditch and came straight to my setup. Boom, my first turkey yesterday, April 18, 2021! All thanks to you. Thanks so much for your wisdom!!!
Dick kirby hits home for me , I live in orchard park , ny ...where Dick Kirby started his call shop . They have since moved about 30 minutes south of me but still local . Great calls , great history ...and I'm glad he has inspired your turkey hunting . Love your videos , wish there were more realistic videos like yours on UA-cam . Keep it up Dale Outdoors!
I like this content Matt. The subtle soft calling. As different as as framer and a finishing carpenter. Its the finer details you explained that will often be the difference between a close call and toting one out over your shoulder. Love it
Watched this video last night and one more time this morning, used the whine a couple of times on a bird that was hung up on a knob in a fresh burn and pulled him into 30 yards with some whines, clucks, and scratching leaves! Tagged out on public land in Georgia! Thanks man!
I have watched alot of your videos. I am a turkey hunter with 20 years of chasing long beards. My friend you are spot on with all your info and i appreciate your time making these videos. My wife shot her first long beard this year.
Yes sir, I've been making that call (sound) for 25+ years and it works, sometimes it PO's the old gobblers off and he comes in fast. Also try the da-da-da-da after that at some point. The hens will get excited, its amazing the sounds these birds make.
Matt HUGE fan of your videos feel they are the best in sharing/teaching ACTUAL knowledge for all skill levels but especially for beginner turkey hunters. I really respect your hunts are mostly on public land and NOT intensely managed private land. I also have bought a quite a few of Spring Fever double sided slate calls (copper, brass, AL, and ceramic) calls and they worked so well I gifted several to my friends. I for years bought into you never just cluck or purr and cluck because it was to easy for the turkeys to mistake your cluck for an alarm putt and ruin your hunt. Then about 5-6 years ago when I was able to take my sons on youth hunts on great limited access public land and got first crack at the Toms I heard a VERY large number of hens on roost clucking dozens of times, and only clucking. At first I thought "Oh crap I somehow spoked them they know I'm here" but then the hen(s) flew right down to my decoys and hung out like nothing was wrong. Then this happened over and over season after season, so I had to accept clucking was OK to do to call in a Tom. After this I also began to notice a lot of hens I saw or heard that would only cluck as they calmly made their way around the woods and fields. So yes you are indeed correct about the cluck-purr being a solid reliable call. Thanks Matt, for making me a better more successful turkey hunter.
Great tips! Thanks for taking time to share and help. Just had a Tom this weekend hang up at 75 yards. Just had to watch him walk away. I had no extra tricks. In pine straw Scratching is inaudible. These calls would have helped me I’m sure, time to get to work practicing!
Video wont load. On any Browser, tried 3 different ones. ALL other UA-cam videos work fine. Update - Working now, not sure what happened but it's all good. Thanks for the vid Dale..
Awesome information ! Really enjoyed learning more About the whine. I knew about The feed call, Scott Ellis has a good video on the feed call too. But learning about the whine was a new thing for me. Thanks man your a walking turkey hunting handbook.
Matt, this is the best video you have put out yet! That’s saying a lot to because you have put out some good ones. The way you go into detail and explain stuff is the best and I have learned a thing or to from your videos in the past that has allowed me to kill some that I otherwise wouldn’t have. Thank you again Matt and please keep them coming!!!!!
I enjoy your videos and and has taught me a lot. I started watching your videos about 4 years ago when I first started turkey hunting and got to tag two gobblers my first yr then 3 gobblers the next year and still learning. Awesome and educational videos.
I don't know what the call was, a purrrr with a putt putt but while bow hunting in November a flock of turkeys came by my stand and I moved my hand or something and a hen starts this purr putt putt cluck and boom all the turkeys took off ! So I try to not do that this spring because they all ran away and a couple of nice toms in the group. Learning a lot from you!
I can't use a mouth because I am allergic to Latex. The reads are may from latex. But I am very good with a slate call. Called in 45 hens in Pennsylvania.
Definitely gonna have to give them two calls if needed to make it happen. I bought one of them squealing Jenny calls years ago remember my dad and his buddy laughed said you'll be calling in all the bears coyotes & wolf in the area lol. There it sits in my Turkey call tote in the basement never used it. Once again thank you for your videos really opening my eyes to the ways of Turkey hunting.
Hey Mr. Dale, I'm an old time turkey Hunter that started in the early 80's, love your content, our hunting techniques are very similar. It was Jason Cruise who got the purr- cluck lie started, he actually has a video on it----;; STUPIDITY ! I've finished more than I could ever remember using that & not planning to change anytime soon 😂
Got my first for the va 2021 season. Ive always purred and cluck together when necessary. Idk what the proper term for it is, but this 3 or 4 note shotgun yelps as you call it really helped me on a hungup bird. I think by not calling much today gave me a edge on my pour set up. It worked out in the end. Keep it up good stuff
If you listen to hens closely you will notice about three different cluck purrs the mellow cluck purrs is the one that works best . If you hit a sharp or higher pitch to the cluck purrs must mean trouble to them and the leave in the direction they've come from.
I recently just bought a house and there is 2 or 3 gobbling every morning on the state land beside me . Hopefully I can go get one they are literally within 200 yards of my yard.
I killed a big 3 year old Saturday with a few purrs and clucks and a lot of silence just after daylight. He had another big one with him. It was about 10 minutes after sunrise. I cackled once on the ground then turned it down. And I carry a double reed and a Turpin box call.
@@daleoutdoors17 dang looks like next season then im in my first turkey season and haven't got a mouth call yet cant find one that comfortable in my mouth... Thanks sir
Somebody tell me a good diaphragm to do soft whines and feed calls with. I’ve always used Pittman diaphragms and I love them but I can not for the life of me do soft feed calls with any that I own.
This guy is the real deal, I’m not sure I’ll ever sound like this guy damn he’s good and down to earth with the info he puts out, a great American

I also like your old school camo and face mask. I still use stuff my dad gave me from the 90s.
I enjoy using those Clucks + Purrs. Called in my 1st mature Tom with them. They work.
What a great teacher.

Spring fever custom calls added to the bag of tricks this year. Thank you for all the tips. As an East Tennesseean I can’t wait for the next video.

Really nice presentation here, you make the subtle differences simple to understand. I'm hopeful I can retain a meaningful portion lol.
The whine works used it for 20 years
Season here in Arkansas is starting up on April 19th! Getting ready for it. Not much birds around here but you gotta still try
I had an old Woods Wise VHS tape with Jerry Peterson. He used the same sound but called it a peel-peel instead of wheel-wheel.
The whine call worked for me this morning got my best bird yet Thanks for the video Dale good stuff 👍

First season turkey hunting. Love your videos! Deep in phase 3 of the season
Awsome video Dale man im trying like hell to get those tones down love having many tricks in the bag good luck season
video isn't loading for me either
Love your videos !!!
The "wheel, wheel" call does work.
Good stuff , down to 7 days to opening day !
Thanks for the advice Matt, I’ve accidentally done the whine call while trying to purr and they never seem to mind it

What happened to the Stoeger?

Do you have to have a mouth to do these calls or can they be done on a slate
Yea it’s pretty much a mouth call deal. You can’t put that feeling and control with a box or slate.

2023 and two birds this year died with purrs and clicks being the last thing they heard besides that Mossberg 835 bark
I been hunting birds 20 years I still can’t purr or whine
Not interested in mouth calls.
Okay, get a box call then and keep your opinion to yourself lol
@@TheKep better idea, stick a mouth call in your mouth and pester turkeys and not humanity.
