- In this video I create a jig that allows the use of the Dowelmax to install
shelves on woodworking projects.

nice informational video with NO loud comments or screaming---nice music---i have always enjoyed your ideas with dowel max---thanx rick
Thank you very much!
I have the dowelmax, and because of your videos I can now use it for most situations, but when it comes to the application here, the wnew dowel jig is ready made for this, for up to 670mm (26.73”) long.
Not to take anything away from your brilliant design.
Thanks for your great video.
It's always good to hear that the videos I create actually help. Thanks for watching!
Soothing music, and a great-looking workbench, Kudo's on the video
Thanks a bunch!
Did something similar a few years back building a few gigantic gates for a customer. Didn't have a dowelmax so I used a block of hard walnut with a couple holes drilled through on the drill press to guide the bit for the dowels in the middle of the gates..I still have the block somewhere around the shop..
Sometimes we have to create our own tools to get the job done.
Very clever! I think that rather than measuring I'd just use the included distance gauge to set distance between dowels. If you want a greater distance than the gauge allows, 1/4" round stock will work as a replacement shaft. I use some steel shaft from mcmaster, but a long, 1/4" wooden dowel rod will work too.
I'm working on my own type of jig that accomplishes the same task similarily. I do like your design however. Nicely done. 🙂
I still can't get over how happy I've been with the dowelmax. Amazing jig.
Good point....the round bar is a good way to increase your distance . Thanks for watching!
Good idea. I think I will make one for my dowelmax. Just wondering if that tightening screw will make dig marks in the wood which may interfere with smooth sliding.
Thanks! Yes the screw makes impressions in the wood. This does not cause any problems with it sliding. On the next one I'm going to inlay a brass strip to stop this from happening.
I am wondering if biscuit joiner is more appropriate for this application.? Festool Domino will make this a breeze but a very expensive option..
The biscuit joiner is good for alignment purposes. For building shelves you need some strength in the joint. Dowels will give you the strength you need. Biscuits will not.
Very cool! I love my DowelMax
Right on! Me too!
Great idea! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
Excellent video !
Thank you very much!
What's your thought on adding a T-square or just a fence for such an operation? I.e. Instead of building the jig? Or are they good at different instances?
Thank you for your video
PS. I saw your part 5 jig now. It maybe made my comment partly redundant.
I'd stay away from the T-sqare. You could definitely use a fence for the same operation. Thanks for watching!
where did you get that apron ---brand---purchase place thanx rick
You can get that apron from Calavera Tool Works. I believe that one is the classic. calaveratoolworks.com
You didn't use the dowelmax jig to make the dowelmax jig jig. Missed opportunity. 😀
Lol. I thought about that after I finished it. Swing & miss.
Glad to see u still doing vids bro! Nice jig! i bought a motorcycle would love to take a bike right out and pay a visit b4 season ends!! And Got your email couple weeks ago .u sd something about pics but when I opened it I didn't see pics it was something else...
Hey brother! Let me know when you are ready. Not much time left before the snow starts to fly. Not sure about the email. When was it sent? Might not be me.
I bought a Jessem Doweling Jig Master and it's a very nice jig, but everytime I see someone using the Dowelmax, I kind of wish I had bought that instead. I may buy one anyway. 😜
You will not be disappointed with the Dowelmax. Thanks for watching!
I also had a hard time choosing, that's why I bought them both, and the third one I have is from Wolfcraft part no. 4650000. Dowelmax & JessEm & Wolfcraft are 3 top jigs if you work with dowels, Wolfcraft video ua-cam.com/video/Q0PdlHl6kA8/v-deo.html
Do you make these and sell them? Just ordered the dowelmax kit
Sorry I made just the one. It's an easy build. If you follow the video you should have no problem making one for yourself.
@@Woodcraftedworkshop seems like dowelmax would sell a cnc cut aluminum track for it
Nice 👍🏻
Thanks ✌️ Kim!
