This movie showcases old days of India. The name of place shown here is tumbad where it rains most of the times throughout the year according to the movie. They say it rains because the gods are upset and angry that the ancestors of the mansion in Tumbad made a shrine of Hastar. They just did that to wake up Hastar. They also mentioned that he took all the gold/wealth from the goddess but couldn't take the grain/food. That old man is a higher cast person whose family lived like kings in a mansion. The old man is the only one remaining in the mansion with just one wife who needs to live like a slave according to the tradition that's why she cannot even grow her hair. The old lady who sound like a monster is the great grand mother of that old man and she has been cursed to live forever she is immortal but she barely is in the condition she only sleeps and eats. The wife of the old man needs to take care of that monstrous old lady. That old lady said something like "I don't want the treasure anymore just let me die" that meant she tried to get the treasure but got cursed in someway, how? That you will find out. The mother of two kids just want to be get some money as she is promised by her husband/old man/sarkar that he will give her gold coin but she has to earn it. The mansion has a treasure of gold coins the ancestors of the old man managed to get one gold coin and kept it in the shrine with Hastar. The treasure is not easy to find. The elder child is already greedy as you can see how he asked her mother about the coin. When greedy he doesn't think about anything else like he sent his little brother to feed the old hag. He is just selfish maybe it's in his genes. The old man died and his wife she is not allowed to even go at that place where he is being burnt(there can be a better word for this) that's way she is just watching from across the river. This movie showcases olden India. Britishers were rulling India when the leading hero is all grown up. You must watch Dhruv Rathhe video on how british took over India and Partition of India. The Britishers had a good relationship with some kings and higher cast people. That British officer was offering the landlord some good position and the landlord has second thoughts to be part of his friends gold hunting. The gods aren't real just writers imagination.
This movies was ahead of its time.....
Great choice guys. Please watch "Andhadhun" after Dangal. It's a suspense thriller which will keep you on the edge for the whole time. Also, it's a fun watch.
Now you understand that indian movies are not always loud and shiney. It’s just a part. There are equal number of cinematic pieces realising every year. They don’t get the attention
