- Matt Seeberger's performance, making the finals of the 2009 Sacramento Hardbat Fest, was remarkable in that not only was it his first tournament ever, it was the first time he had ever even been to a table tennis club! A completely self-taught basement player, he was undefeated in the preliminary rounds, beating two players rated over 2000. He is seen here losing a close match in the final against Scott Gordon. Matt is not only the strongest true "basement" player I've ever met, but he also has the best two-handed backhand I've ever seen in table tennis. His style is utterly unique and very fun to watch.
A final note, Matt is using a Don Varian Hock teardrop-shaped paddle, which he liked because he said it helped his backhand grip!
i bet my life he plays tennis
yeah probably
I thought i was the only one playing two handed backhands in table tennis, now i know i'm not the only one......nice shots.I'm surprised you hit the ball like me...
iIalso hit them two handed most of the time !
Clearly a tennis player.
Just to let everyone know... This guy is regarded as the most successful Divison III college tennis player of all time ^_^
Second most successful actually, Eric butorac was top 20 in doubles
Amazing two handed style!! Can you share some tips?
When playing at a higher level you need to switch from forehand to backhand in milliseconds, i'm not sure you can do that with two hands on the racket.
This kind of style may look funny in Pro Table tennis career but trust me 15 year ago i've played against this two handed style player in the junior sydney league competition it was not easy at all... First everyone laughed so hard "Tennis player? in the Table tennis com?" but yeah as i said he took the third place.
Thank God Im not the only one. As a tennis player 2 handed backhand its the only way, even in ping pong
Matt was the best tennis player I came across when i was playing junior tennis. He was so much better than me that it wasnt even fun for him to play against me. He got even better which is kind of scary
I know both of these players! Scott Gordon was the sponsor at our tennis table club at Cal State Sacramento. I remember when I first met him, he challenged me with a hardback book and beat me. It was amazing!
Matt is a national champ in tennis. He played for UC Santa Cruz. It's a D3 school, but he is an AMAZING tennis player.
This is hardbat table tennis as the title states, correct? Meaning that there is no rubber on the racquets (or bats)? I don't mean to take anything away from Matt, but could that have had something to do with how well he played with his incredibly unique style?
I also use the two hand and i think it provides more control and power unlike the one hand which is either a block or crazy swing
Jay C if you know how to play properly the statement you just made was extremely stupid.
But useless in a midlevel players
It hurts me but I think he plays better than me...
This Guy disbanded college tennis player
its obvious that this guy plays tennis
mmm...do you happen to play tennis?
Well someone plays tennis...
you may be good at it but using 2 hands at the same time is illegal according to the rules. you are allowed to switch hands but not use both at the same time
using two hands at once is not allowed in table tennis. only in lawn tennis.
You can just tell he plays tennis
