Well firstly I'd contend that is debatable because some of the world's most populous nations already see it as prestigious, so just because Europeans and Americans don't it see the same that doesn't mean it isn't by default of our superiority complex. However , I understand what you mean by prestige in the sense of personal commercial success and fame. Reason? Because the main place where table tennis is successful and followed - China - has so far not been able to pay players seriously. But if players, not just one or two but throughout the league, have a way of making multi millions that will change. The way China's going that is a real possibility, and the game probably can change it's structure a bit (less national success based, just more personal like most other sports) to help.
sorry, that "hyperbolic serve" wasnt legal; ball not tossed anywhere near 6 inches. its essentially dropped from the palm, not tossed. sad. i wonder if he can actually do it legally. seems possible.
some of those serves were still legal at the time, like waldner's serves. it wasnt illegal yet to block the ball during the toss so they were still using their arms to cover it.
@@pixel2695 You will see this a LOT with top players. Their serves are a bewildering variety of ways to cover up the ball during the serve (which is now illegal.) Very difficult to see in real time, so is rarely called, but often done.
@@gunsandpolitics5510 i know yeah, but i was saying that some of the illegal serves like walder's where his arm would cover the ball were still legal at the time since there were no rules against it which is why a bunch of players did that.
@@gunsandpolitics5510 after reviewing the serves, pretty much only waldner and wang chuqin had illegal serves. some others have toss height problems but those serves weren't in an actual match and just a showcase. xuxin was just a matter of camera perspective since he's left handed. so yeah, i just wanted to clarify that with the 2 clearly illegal serves in this video, waldner's serves were legal because the rules were different at the time. i actually remember seeing videos teaching people that when you serve you should cover it with your arm. Those were just the rules at the time, you were allowed to hide the ball.
Sir, you are so ignorant and biased on world top TT serves ! Variations on serves are part of the skills and they had practiced that tens of thousand times ! And they Did not break any of the Rules. Obviously the problem is Not on the rules .Period !
Actually, the Waldner serve was banned because he contacted the ball behind his extended right arm (in the vid), and the ball goes under the arm hiding the ball, which prevents the opponents ability to see the CONTACT to play; or would you also blindfold a goalkeeper for the first contact of a penalty? P.S. Even players like Mima Ito have been called out by the referee for foul serves.
Ma Lin has the best slow serve, and the dude from Japan has the best fast serve. A serve that is considered great has to be an ace serve or be won on the third ball.
WCQ serving above the table + not vertical (the angle exceeds 30 degrees) + hidden by his body + most often not reaching 16 cm but dropped down. 50 % of his serves should be called. He's not the only one but you almost don't see illegal serves in women competitions.
People only say that because he is lefty and he is Chinese. A lot of players dont toss it perfectly straight like Samsonov or Kenta Matsuidara. I dont see anyone complaining about Alexis Lebruns toss. Clear view of his toss in the "Alexis Lebrun vs Benedikt Duda | Final - European Championship 2024" You can watch it in TT11TV channel. His 2nd, 4th, 6th serve and on you can clearly see is past 30 degrees. Dimitri Tomahawk high toss is way over 30 degrees that he has to relocate his body 3 steps to the right. a lot of people tosses the ball towards their body. The new rule book already took the 30 degrees leeway off the book. So it is only near vertical. So if they reinforce it they have to enforce it to every player and be consistent about it. And is hard to see all angles of the toss. If you studied math you know there are 3 axis and the umpire can only see 2 axis clearly. Also the umpire cannot see the other players axis. A righty will see from a lefty the same thing the lefty sees from a righty. Yet the lefties are used to it and since they are lesser players. They will not complain as much as righty players do. But righties complain about lefties all the time. Watch Lin Yunju serve videos, Even tho he has a straight toss up he still covers the ball slightly with the head and body even tho he is upright if seen from the middle of the table. If you stand on your bh side you wont see anything. That's how it is. If you play a lefty you should stand closer to the middle to see the contact. That's the ideal spot. If you play enough lefties you would know. Now if you are a righty and you cant see a righty serve. Then that's an obvious problem. Like how Malong complained against another player he played against that did hook serves and was a righty and couldnt see it even though he was standing on the far bh side.
Which one? The waldner's serve wasn't "banned". What was banned was to let the arm in front to hide the contact point of the ball with the racket. The narrator "lied" to make shit sound sensational.
Is it just me or r u not supposed to block the ball with ur any part of ur body when serving yet every top player now a-days does this. Using the body to conceal the ball when they strike it which is illegal yet no ref calls any player for it. Y even have the rule in the rule book.
Um interesting but many of these serves were common even in the 80s. The tomahook, even at young age we had an almost identical serve, MA longs serve, we were doing it. Seems nothing is new under the sun.
I can't believe that this sport doesn't have the prestige of tennis. It's so exciting and artistic.
It does in certain places in the world.....like my living room...and I am a tennis lover. I play both sports....pickle ball, too.
Indeed 😊
is too fast for TV and far away audience is the main issue

I prefer the long short serve right in the middle left side of the table. Its returnable in 30 days
Title : Insane services
Proceeds to show rallies
I watched til the end, waiting to see the serve that curved to end of the net. disappointed me so much...waste my time...
@@melodyg1254It is possible and done by multiple people but i think its might be illegal on a real game
Ma Lin. One of the best servers of all time.
Also a very good table tennis player ;)
Any serve that ends with a long rally is NOT an insane serve. It's just average and returnable.
You’ve probably never played table tennis in your life after hearing that

Dima's backhand serve is the best for the competitions.
Changing the rules you shoud get a special medal for that! You defeted the game!
Asuka Sakai's serve is my favorite because how powerful and easy ot is
That smashing should is priceless.
Waldner's kicker server was effect in those days because he hid the ball with his left arm
Ma Lin serve ball was travelling fast and then stopped.
I think the kicker serve got banned cuz his left hand covers the ball for a brief moment. When serving, the ball must be visible at all times.
sorry, that "hyperbolic serve" wasnt legal; ball not tossed anywhere near 6 inches. its essentially dropped from the palm, not tossed. sad. i wonder if he can actually do it legally. seems possible.
it takes like 2 minutes of practice.
My favourite serve is backspin and topspin at the same time. Catches a lot of my opponents off guard.
That's very good, especially when you hit it with forehand and backhand at the same time too
Works both of the times
side spin both left and right in the same ball would be even better…
Works best if you spin your paddle in the palm of your hand so fast that the opponent sees only a reddish-black blur.
these comments are priceless
hahaha
