Jazza!!! My man, this has been infinitely helpful...I am a self taught artist and I cannot thank you enough for these tips. It made jumping into coloring far less overwhelming! Stay fresh!!
For those of you asking about alternatives, my sister bought me a set of Blick art markers and some extra tones to get me started. The markers are about $3 per marker and work pretty much the exact same as these (in my experience, anyway). I would really recommend them if you're on a budget.
wow these tips are really cool I recently started using Copic markers so this video is going to help me alot. So thank you for making this video and sharing your knowledge it is a really cool keep up the good work man
well this explains why I had a bit of difficulty with the copic that I have. But I really appreciate your straightforward tips/explinations, made a lot of sence, as I work with photoshop, but my primary love is hands on artwork. like watercolor/acrylic, and just drawing. Thank you!

This helps soooo much! People used to make fun of me...but now you've taught me this and I'm one of the most popular kids in the school! THANK YOU JAZZA!😆
I tried out this trick with the blending on my Artist’s Loft Sketching Pad and found it works just as well. It does bleed, but it is a good alternative for anyone who doesn’t ant to buy $13 paper.
Yes but blending card is better because it doesn’t soak up that much ink... it’s worth paying more for because you waste a lot of ink if you use the wrong paper. You don’t need blending card you can use Bristol paper which is also marker paper.
I'd love to see a series of progress pics on a drawing you do involving some of these tips! I think that would be super useful (especially for the last tip, and the blending/tonal interest tips you gave), because we could see a before and after version of your line art and colors!
I've always owned Prismacolor markers since college, but my new Copic sets are quickly becoming my favorites. Just got the skin tones and bold sets. Great tutorial! Like and sub. 👍🏼
Just bumped in to this video. Must say this one is one of the best art tutorial on UA-cam I’ve seen. Starting Copic markers only recently this video gave me good insight. Thank you Jazza.
I use promarkers, not copics, as copics aren't sold near where I live, however I find from using my promarkers that yes, the colour can sometimes stain/dirty the tip of the marker - but I find that an easy way to fix this is just to draw with that colour on a scrap piece of paper a little and any staining/dirtying ebbs out and you have a nice clean marker again. It might look dirty still but I find that it no longer draws with a tainted colour :)
I've done the grey to mute a tone forever in my eyeshadow. I can use pretty much any bright or garish color in a palette by first laying down a grey, either cool or warm as indicated, and layering to get the shade I want. Honestly, the more I learn from art - in a variety of mediums, the more I learn about makeup and vice-versa. It makes total sense when you think about it, but it still constantly fascinates me. Like I learned a Lot about brush handling from watercolor that has really upped my makeup skills.
i have a bunch of copic ciao markers but there are 2 things i don't like- bleeding past my linework and that weird tea-stain thing that happens if you don't apply it quick enough. it's annoying cus it dries too quick. i don't have that problem with promarkers XD
I had this problem but in my case I found out it was related to the paper I was using, markers seem to dry in different speeds in different papers, but I only tried with the Kurecolor in different paper brands, I don't know if the others would act the same way. My paper intended for varied tools takes longer and gives me more time to think, my paper intended especifically for markers dries so quickly that I never have time to paint my layers properly.
Is Spectrum Noir decent stuff ? Got me two small sets of their reasonably new Illustrator line today to try out. They also have the soft brushes. First try on this sort of stuff, they're not too expensive so i thought that was good for a first try. But, are they good enough to stick with or if you can work with the idea should you upgrade to say Copic or Chameleon (which seem to have a more limited range colour wise ?)
I have their normal markers, theyre quite nice! I think theyre great for the price and imo will be fine for finished pieces. Chameleons arent so great though, theyre big and chunky and the brush tips get destroyed real fast (which is why they give you extra ones)
JETPACKGUY 37 I was terrible before I started watching artist UA-camrs but as all of them say practice which made me improve because I am practicing everyday
Bit late to the party but found it very helpful. With your tinting tip I've found that using warm or cold greys works great depending on the colour I want to tint to. So warm grey if I want a warm red and gold grey if I want blue.
Whenever he colors in the circles one half of my brain is cringing like DONT DO THAT YOUR GOING TO RUIN THE MARKER then the other side of my brain is like Man it's all good he knows what he's doing And then both of the sides of my brain are just arguing
The nibs are replaceable and they don’t fray unless you use them on a really textured surface because they are made out of a different material that don’t fray.
I remember when i had my first set of copics when i was about 12 or so i really could not get them to look nice! I did not have youtube or something so nobody taught me how to use them :P now i work with them again and i love them :D i still have the same markers i used over 11 years ago in my set (with many many more :D) and i reall like using them. The only problem i have is that some colours seem to cancel each other out? Almost like i am using a colourles blender but they are coloured? It just goes all patchy and grey-ish
Kelly Wang i started putting matching washi-tape around the pens that work together and "bad" tape around those that to this "cancellig out" thing to darker colours. I thought there was a way to prevent that but i guess not :P
Try layering them different. If your doing them dark to light, do it light to dark instead, or vice versa....Also, it may be your paper, i recommend Strathmore Bristol board smooth
Your method of blending skin-tones, specifically the order of lighter and darker tones you use, totally reminds me of makeup application, specifically eyeshadow blending. I literally use the exact same formula/sequence for blending lighter and darker colors to create the perfect blend 😊 I thought that was pretty cool! 💕😎👍💕
Depending on where you live, some might not have them. But amazon sell them though if you really want them. The type he use (X-press it) can be harder to find in some places. But it create a really nice finish! Have been using them for finals! Although it can be a little pricey... 😖
When it comes to inks/liners, I normally just stick with my Copic or Micron fine liners and go with larger diameters and layer to get thicker outlines if needed. I'd rather not risk any bleeding by using anything else.
+Draw with Jazza before I watched your videos I used to just look up how to draw a character but now I try to make my own characters so I'm just saying thank you
I just bought Y15 (Cadmium Yellow), B23 (Pthalo Blue), and E56 (Walnut)! I am hoping to get the full Cadmium set but am happy that this video got me started!
Good thing about the markers is that u can lay one colour over other to make a colour Or do many types of blending So u dont actually need to buy all sets if u are short on money 👍
I just found some copic markers on sale yesterday! I couldn't believe it.... I'm hoping to go back today and pick up whatever is left and some paper. I had a little bit of marker paper but I'm going to need more.
I have 10 copics that I use combined with all the promarkers that I have. I have also ordered 24 more copics to complete with more earth tones that I don't find in promarkers. It works great to use them together as long as you know how to use the markers for your art style 🙂
As a person who has invested a lot on money into sets a b and c of the copic sets, I am finding my ability to create blending with these special markers has MUCH more to do with the PAPER than with my talent as an artist. If you use a very absorbent paper your ink will dry so fast you will not be able to blend at all, and that has been my biggest issue, I have gone through so many pads of different paper trying to find the right one. I am going to try this paper Jazza recommended and see how that goes, otherwise you just have to keep looking until your satisfied with one type.
Vegas Sims dont underestimate yourself my dude. Yes paper quality is important but i know of artists who use regular printer paper and they completely kill it ith their amazing colors and blend. It totally has to do with ability and skill. Tools are supposed to enhance your skill, not change the whole game

When you go over another colour to blend won't it dirty the tip of the marker?
+Mr.Maniacle i answer that question in this video
No it doesnt, the markers are designed to withstand that, sometimes it can get a bit thick and then you would need to replace the nib
Mr.Maniacle you can scrabble the color on a paper to wipe the color you go over and have your main color

The only problem i have is that some colours seem to cancel each other out? Almost like i am using a colourles blender but they are coloured? It just goes all patchy and grey-ish
Helvetica09 well there are some colour combinations that do that, if that's not the effect you want then don't do those combinations
Does mixing/tinting causes the tip of the markers to smear/stick with the other color of the markers?
words can't express how much i love and respect Jazza
Jazza I'm here!!!! respond plz also Aussie squad where you at?
NightCore Elantian pretty sure the Aussie squad would in Australia XD

SilverDirt Draws What I meant is where are you like hello are u there also if you were sarcastic then 😂
Scribble Fix Yeah!!!
NightCore Elantian here!
Copic markers are life.
Omg thank you this is going to help me so much even tough I never used Copic markers I'm so excited to finnLy get the markers 💕
where can you buy blending paper
Dynomite Cotton balls art stores or some office supply stores have art things
Depending on where you live, some might not have them. But amazon sell them though if you really want them. The type he use (X-press it) can be harder to find in some places. But it create a really nice finish! Have been using them for finals! Although it can be a little pricey... 😖
This can honestly help with using most markers. Great video, thanks for the help!
When it comes to inks/liners, I normally just stick with my Copic or Micron fine liners and go with larger diameters and layer to get thicker outlines if needed. I'd rather not risk any bleeding by using anything else.
+Draw with Jazza before I watched your videos I used to just look up how to draw a character but now I try to make my own characters so I'm just saying thank you
I just purchased my first few copic markers a week ago, this video really helps.
Does touch five work well? I might get some I wanna know form ur guys expierence
adrian Becerra No, not at all. It's better to save your money for copics or prismacolor markers.
Touchnfive work very well you just have to now how to use them
I hated them
You should get blick studios brush markers
Touchfives work well but it bleeds more then copics i got some and im still learning how to control it
I legit screamed as i saw Midna lmao, I love her ♡
I just bought Y15 (Cadmium Yellow), B23 (Pthalo Blue), and E56 (Walnut)! I am hoping to get the full Cadmium set but am happy that this video got me started!
Good thing about the markers is that u can lay one colour over other to make a colour
Or do many types of blending
So u dont actually need to buy all sets if u are short on money 👍
Jazza You should do a self portrait that's not a cartoon
I just found some copic markers on sale yesterday! I couldn't believe it.... I'm hoping to go back today and pick up whatever is left and some paper. I had a little bit of marker paper but I'm going to need more.

Promarker
Omg! I just realized all along I thought your UA-cam name was “Drawing with Jazza” But it’s “Draw with Jazza!” Wow! 😂✨💕Love ya!
I have 10 copics that I use combined with all the promarkers that I have. I have also ordered 24 more copics to complete with more earth tones that I don't find in promarkers. It works great to use them together as long as you know how to use the markers for your art style 🙂
If you are on a tight budget just buy a range of greys, and use software to colourise.
Some pro's even prefer that way.
Yancke van Tonder kinda a moot point since you still need to spend money on the software/computer/tablet
I finally have some copic markers and i'm watching all kind of copic marker videos, but i'm still affraid to actually start using them :S
nicKY2592 start using them because if you don’t they will dry
4:51 he just described me
Lol
