Triumph Scrambler 1200 | Catalytic Converter Removal + Crash Bar Install | Tom & Eric Try

- On a scorching summer day Tom invited me over to install the Free Spirits H-Pipe (De-Cat) and the Triumph Crash Bars on his equally scorching Scrambler 1200. The new header will replace the existing one as well as the catalytic converter.

After another long week throwing salt grit down in icy covid lockdown Scotland, you pop up on my phone, shirt shorts & flip flops, disgusting man. Great video, like yer style.
I like this because this shows what it's actually like
great guys! but in terms of sound, was better before....you also forgot to replace the copper rings in both manifolds
He's crazy isn't he?
Nice bike, but I don’t know how you work with those long finger nails 😂
Besides great back scratches, @tomanello keeps those puppies long for his sweet sweet guitar tunes. You can check them out here if you are interested! ua-cam.com/users/TAnelloMusic
Excellent video quality! Love the channel 👍 keep up the good work! You've got a sub from me! Id love to test ride a scrambler for my channel 😭
Did you have to retune the bike when you removed the cat?
I did the exact same thing with the gasket 😂 45 mins later I was ready to kill something
🤣 could they at least warn us next time they make a rubber plug threaded!? Sheesh!
Oh wow,is that mine, yea. That’s mine 😂😂😂😂
Why isn’t this cross pored on Tommy’s discord?
Great video , may i ask you about the sound at higher rpm,s like 3000 4000 , still mannered ? All the best 👍 thank you
Yes absolutely, honestly you won't notice much of a difference in loudness. Just a slightly better sound character I'd say. But the stock end cans still muffle the sound very well.
It was really hard to do
Sweet stuff! Did the decat do the trick on tve heat issue? Can you ride the bike in shorts without having to hold the leg out? Im contemplating decat or low exhaust. The low exhaust prevents crashbars so decat would be better if it still does the job.
Niklas Zx thanks buddy! Tom has noticed a huge decrease in heat. Much more comfortable on his leg but can't speak to shorts, I'd assume you might still turn your thighs to bacon. But the decat def reduced the radiating heat significantly! Our vote def goes to decat and high pipes!
3.58 “are you fuckin serious?” - that’s me every time I’ve dropped a nut and it’s caught behind the bash plate 😂
That was painfull to watch !
😂 its supposed to be "our pain your gain"! We will refund you!
@@BirchesMoto i bet if you filmed me working on my bike you'd say the same thing 😂
@@jackxish labor of love!

This helped me solve the mystery. I just purchased a used 2019 Scrambler 1200 XE and the head pipe appeared to have had a section cut out and then re-welded. I see the Cat Delete you just installed looks exactly the same so that tells me that the former owner installed one as well. Good to know so thanks for that.
Likely a coincidence but a buddy of mine installed the de-cat on his Thruxton R and a few weeks later odd codes starting popping up. After using aftermarket software, eventually the codes were suppressed and there’s no real evidence the de-cat was the direct cause of the issue. Anyone else have a delayed “code” issue after the de-cat installation?
what was the torque setting on the t55 bolt? i can't find the spec anywhere
Did you find it ? Can’t find it anywhere either! Thanks !
i just flipped thru the service manual, 105 Nm per the engine installation instructions on page 333 (of 994). they also recommend a new lock nut
@@martincarre5301 105 Nm
@@dudiusmaximus Hey Thanks dude!
Extension magnet or mechanical fingers.
Hey thanks for the video it was great ! Just a quick question, to install the crashbars i understood a torx t55 is needed but what did he use to hold the nut on the other side?
Hi Pablo! I used a small wrench to hold the nut on the other side.
Anyone dynoed one after fitting the decat?
Nice video guys!
Appreciate it, buddy!
No re-map required after the de-cat pipes installation? what about the performance? did they changed?
No re-map however triumph has you run the bike for a length of time and the ECU will account for the new air/fuel ratio.
How much is the diferencen from the heat the pipes send out after the change?
Considerable! The cat box used to really roast my leg to the point of being painful. It's still warm, but it doesn't hurt anymore haha.
Great, just what I was looking for, fellas! I've got a 2019 XE, the bars have come in and your video is great! BTW, could you put up a link, please, for the "race use only" kit?
Bill Brower here you go! Cheers Bill! www.freespiritsparts.com/en/h-pipe-de-cat-for-triumph-scrambler-1200.html
Awesome job on the install; when I did the same crash bar install it was amazing how much a pain in the ass it all was.
Thanks man! Worth it in the end but I was glad Tom was doing most the work on this one 😂
I did the exact same thing with the plug on the left hand side. :) I did remove both header pipes though for easier access.
Ulf-Kenneth a threaded rubber plug...who would have known!?
Well done decently
Thank you!! We strive for below average
Is this like videotaping yourself committing a crime and then posting it on UA-cam for the authorities to see, lol.
In all seriousness, is this illegal or only illegal to remove the cat in certain States or countries.
Race use only, Silly!
