31st Street - Fundraiser - Democratic Parties of PA and MI - Grass Roots Organizing - April 10 2024

31st Street members, supporters and friends met on April 10 2024 to raise funds in support of the "grass roots organizing" and "get out the vote" activities of the Democratic Parties of Pennsylvania and Michigan. Jim Shelton, political analyst, laid out the importance of the 34 electoral votes which come with a win in these two key states. He emphasized the importance of early money to get Democratic activists into the field now, to mobilize turnout. Jalen Nix, Deputy Executive Director of the PA Democratic Party, and Lavora Barnes, Chair of the Michigan Democratic Party, shared their views on how to mobilize the Democratic vote in their two states. Jalen Nix described his approach to awakening turnout in central Philadelphia, and Lavora Nix explained how she was responding to the tensions between the Arab community, the Jewish community, and the Democratic Party in Michigan.
