  • At the DNA Custom Paints training course I created a simple but great looking piece of artwork, using 375 micron Flakes with the dry flakes gun then loaded it up with the Diamond HS clear, baked it and left it overnight, the next day we sanded all the high spots from the large flakes and masked up a basic design of Sun & Surf then using a range of candy paints did some shading then removed the masking and re cleared for the finished product. I will take you through every step of the process. I had a great time and think it looks great. For more info on the wide range DNA have to offer see their website through this link.

    This is funny. I was a custom painter for several years. You are definitely a smash repair guy. We made all our paints from a mixing station. Use base clear or Binder as to level tape lines. all colors were custom boxed and thinned base coats.

      The Gunman Hi gunny how do you think the flake guns compare with doing it "applying flake" in clear together ,ive seen these type of gun used on other videos and sort of seems time consuming and as you said the effect seems motteled or space in places

    Last summer I painted my street vending cart with what you showed us. Now I want to do something better. People use lace to create effects do you think any stencil could work in place of the lace. I want to use a plotter to create a dragon stencil to use in place of the lace under the candy. Any thoughts or advice would be a great help, before I create another sanding job. Thankyou. I like your posts keep them coming. We all learn from you.

    I have one question i have a hood to paint and its going yellow not a bright yellow but yellow hahah well the thing is that the owner want to put pearl in the clear , he say he wants a coat of clear and then two more with normal clear , and i dont know how to spray that if just normal or do 2or 3 median light coat to not get any stripes so i need i little tip from you, thanks alot

    • @TheGunmanChannel
      @TheGunmanChannel  9 років тому

      abel aguilar Mix the pearl with clear basecoat but you really don't need much, do test cards to make sure you are happy with the results and this is what I did on this car and I explain how I did it in this video. ua-cam.com/video/KThC3fH7Pio/v-deo.html

    Thanks so much for putting this online! So I want to paint my guitar. I want to use the same technique as you've done here. I'm thinking about whether to use a black base coat, like you did, or a base coat with a similar colour to the flakes.. How would you describe the difference in the result? Obviously - I wouldn't have to ask, if I had both examples right in front of me, but I don't so... Thanks!!

  • @ticklemypickle270

    would you prefer using the flake buster gun for a overall paint job or would you rather mix the flake in with intercoat/binder clear using a 1.8? im preparing to do a full car , a 79 Lincoln mark v , the flake buster gun seems great for less build up of material mills but the coverage is what im worried about. i will be using a black base as well. the intercoat might cover alot better but will probably need alot more mills of material. im not certain on what the best method would be. but man i gotta say this looks awesome. ! i like the size of this flake as well! it really pops! theres a guy on here with a channel called kandyNchrome. he does alot of lowrider style custom flake paint jobs. his work is truly amazing, check him out when you can he is one of the best here in the US!

    • @TheGunmanChannel
      @TheGunmanChannel  8 років тому +1

      So I am yet to do any full resprays in flakes and would rather you asked someone who has so I don't give you the wrong advise but in saying that if it were me, any flakes 200 micron or smaller I'd be using in a 1.8mm gun and intercoat or 2k clear, but the big 375 micron like here, or bigger I'd use a flake gun.

    Is it possible to color match a stock vehicle colors
    and translate it to a candy finish? Say you want the original ford Emberglo which was a two stage paint job. Use a black base with minimal flake, a second layer of 2k clear, spray the Emberglo, then a layer of 2k clear. Am I on the right track?
