I love how every Royal guard has a different meaning for what protecting the king means Pitou priorotizes letting the king be happy, which is why she cried when the king trusted her to heal Komugi, its because the king's emotions and psyche are in her hands. Which is why she suggested the king needs to pick a name he is happy with Pouf thinks protecting the king means having him see through his purpose as the king, which is why he was shaken when the king started developing empathy for Komugi, it means he is straying from his purpose. Which is why when the king asked Pouf what his name should be pouf just answered ''the king'' And because Youpi understands he is not really smart he leaves his responsabilities as strictly protecting the king physically, which is why he didn't feel comfortable giving the king an answer about what the king's name should be since he doesn't trust himself to make a good descision about the king's path
Holy shit, never thought about it that way! Thank you for the insight, I always love how different people see different things in this series and this will definitely change the way I look at it on a rewatch!
@@yuzmanito craziest thing is, he _wasn't._ Morel was, Knov told him to knock it off, but that just shows how much worse it was. Morel thought Killua could benefit from a rough talking to, while Knov just thought "okay these 2 are 100% useless, you're just being mean to a child at this point." In retrospective, Knov's attitude at the entrance to NGL helps explain how he gets absolute awe at Gon and Killua once he sees Pouf's aura. If he'd been the one outside of NGL waiting for Netero that day, he wouldn't be sad and silent like Killua was, he'd be pissing his pants and shaking in fear.
I love the different portrayals of loyalty from each of the Royal Guard. Pitou is *almost* like an older sibling. Giving advice when asked, but largely letting Meruem come to his own conclusions. She is also invested in him being happy, whatever form that takes. Youpi is a soldier through and through. He doesn't make meaningless banter, he follows order without question and prefers to stay as nautral as possible. But this also makes him the quietest and, by extension, the least proactive of the Royal Guard. Pouf straight up WORSHIPS Meruem. He's something between a follower and an indovidual with an unrequited love. His affection is so all-consuming that it is TOXIC. He genuinely does want the best for Meruem of course, but unlike Pitou and Youpi, who are okay with letting Meruem get his own sh!t together, Pouf *assumes* the worst out of any situation and that he alone knows what's best for his King.
In short: Pitou's loyalty goes to the King's mind. If he's happy, then It's all that matters. Youpi's loyalty goes to the King's body. If he's well and unharmed, then It's all that matters. And Pouf's loyalty goes to the King's image. If he's as much "king-like" as he should be, then It's all that matters. Pitou's loyalty is the purest type, Youpi's loyalty is the rawest and simplest type, and Pouf's loyalty is the religious type.
I will never forget that shot of Meruem holding Komugi with his face just blacked out and gone. That is litterally better than any facial expression they could've given him. I know there are many shots and moments from this show that are iconic, but that one moment is just burned into my brain.
The fact that Meruem could have EASILY killed both Zeno and Netero in that split second that they weren't paying attention to him says a *lot* about how outmatched they are and how vital the element of suprise was to the plan.
Shoot blinding his right eye is one of my favorite details of his growth in the first moments of this fight. Things go to shit with Youpi being there and the Dragon Dive lances breaking everything, and instead of panicking he _finally_ breaks free of his cowardice through sheer admiration for Gon. Then he loses a leg and instantly realizes he can be a much more powerful fighter if he stands on one of his hands and uses it to fly instead of being stuck to the floor and making the hands fly... Shoot keeps feeling like every adversity just makes him stronger, so he goes "and I'll make myself 50% blind because fuck it, at this point, any disadvantage that comes my way is just a nice excuse to improve around it."
I love how the first second explores the idea of shock and freezing. First Killua alone had created a mental map of how things might be 100% out of their plan, so when everyone else briefly froze after seeing Youpi, he didn't. Then, he was the only one with information about Dragon Dive, but this caused him to be the only one to freeze when it happened, because this time he was too busy running through all the information. It really goes to show how both immediate action _and_ immediate freezing are perfectly natural human responses, it just depends on what's going in your head at the time to flip the coin on which direction you'll end up at.
The info on Dragon Dive makes no sense though. It hasn't even been a year since he even found out what Nen is let alone talked with his family. They were also always scrapping by money wise until after they finished Greed Island in which they immediately began fighting the chimera ants so its not like he would have randomly chosen to blow a massive amount of money to buy information on his grandfather's nen ability assuming that info is even up for sale.
@@In-The-Zone to be serious, let’s be honest, the Zoldycks did the absolute bare minimum when it came to the hole “never tell non Hunters about Nen” rule. To begin with, at the very least Kalluto and Illumi were trained in it without being a hunter. Killua even knew all about his brother’s Hatsu. To me, assuming Zeno never showed him what he could do is kinda crazy, why would they hide Zeno’s power from him but proudly display Illumi’s or Nanika’s. I presume they just refused to explain how these worked until he was older
@@mordirit8727 Killua had zero understanding of everything involving nen, the only thing he could comprehend is that something was happening when someone used aura in some way directed at him. He had no way to infer anything which is why he turned to Wing so willingly for guidance. Zeno and SIlva are transmuters so their abilities aren't visible to those without nen. Only conjured abilities are visible to people with it. Kalluto could have been trained after Killua left home by the mom since she used him as a sort of fill in for Killua to begin with. Part of Kalluto's goal is to find Killua so its no stretch that it would have propelled his training with that as motivation where as Killua had multiple months long gaps between his.
