It relates to Kite’s warning that they were entering hell. The shot of Gon using his final Jajanken, staring back at Killua, he is surrounded by an inferno and suffering for what he perceives to be his sins.
One of the episodes we've all been waiting for, hah. Absolute masterpiece in my opinion, from the music to the animation to the payoff. Just the heartwrenching "GON" yelled by killua at the end. Truly peak. Such a journey this show is, from the very upbeat pokemon-y vibes in the first arc, to such dark drama in parts of this arc.
I mean, how we got here was pretty weak. Kite love needed serious writing improvements. The transformation is badass. Although the shorts are hilarious. Great moment tho
@@piusdoe8984 I agree with you but the way I argue it with myself is gon is so loving and fragile that this being the first death of someone he had feelings for broke him. Showing how young and childlike he actually is. I agree thoguh his feelings for kite could have had a bit more time.
the fact that Gon's voice actress is a cute small Japanese cutie who was 25yo at the time of this episode pulling off this kind of range and screams will never cease to blow me away
The power up Gon gained was effectively a fast pass to his future potential as a nen user. He sacrificed his future in order to get there faster. That's why his power up was so great, to the point he was as powerful as the king. That's simply how powerful he would have been if he had properly trained to that point, hence the growth spurt into adulthood.
The translation is a bit off, "his fangs could reach the King now" is way more fitting like this one. Alss Pitou only knows pre Rose or better pre Gungi Meruem, with that in mind it dosent sound that ridicilous anymore.
He likely would have been even stronger had he trained until he was an adult. It's likely he would have developed a hatsu with stronger limitations and better effects (or had ging help him develop one) in that time. Nen with restrictions is multiplicative. As it was he was stuck having the base power of a grown man and the skills of a 12 year old to use it with. Definitely not true peak Gon.
You know how many people were waiting for your reaction to this single episode? Episode 131 is extremely special for not only HxH, but whole anime genre. It's also sad that we are approaching the final though.
peak anime, this is why Nen gets the award for best power system, love how it all ties in and isn't just some arbitrary power up solely from anger or sadness
@@kingderk I think what he meant was its not like other anime ie. dragon balls where goku gets angry and gets supersaiyan rgb 15 pro max for free. There's a condition and restriction to actually get hacks.
@@kingderk Well not really, that "power up" is a mixture of like 6 rules and mechanics of nen that have been carefully established and applied in different ways throughout the entire show so the anger and sadness are only a small part and if at all play a major role into why gon would do something like self sacrifice for mere revenge in the first place. Nen is actually miles above any other power system in its logic and I understand that not everyone is carefully watching and observing the anime they are consuming because it's supposed to be entertainment but hxh and especially this moment is carefully thought out and intentional.
@@kingderk totally right, the anger and sadness is on the path to it but it doesnt end in the power up, it ends in the decision to make the choice to give up what he does to gain it and sure it has plenty of flaws like the rest but it is my favourite and it did get the award for best in their own made awards show :)
@@JackboMack i'm not sure if this is true. transmuters actually change the properties of their nen into a substance. the visual effect thing is for demon slayer
@@Ensnare15 Even then Demon Slayer contradicts with this with stuff like demons feeling as if their parts got cut off by _ element, like feeling hot and scorched when sun/fire breathing effects them, and people in the verse having unbelievable feats (Mitsuri casually dodges lightning, Yoriichi caught offguard cuts 1500 pieces of demon flesh ''instantly'' so probably below 1 second and near the milliseconds etc)
It's incredible see how author make main character and main antagonist of arc reverse of each other when they even didn't meet each other. Meruem - who was absolute monster and evil in the beginning, and grow up to more empathic and calm person. Gon who was extremely positive and kind, ended up being one of most brutal and merciless and empty inside. 😅 Awesome. Such a talent. Absolutely genius.
Gon basically did a contract like Kurapika but far more worse. 21:29 Gon finally realizes where selfishness can get him and ends up having tears of regret. What a character development. I have a lot to say about ep 131.
@@TudorX99 Only certain nen users with an incredible resolve could do it, and then the reward depends fully on their maximum potential. Gon got an enormous increase in power because his future potential was very high.
@@TudorX99Yeah, as other people said, not everybody can just have the resolve Gon had, plus even if they do they'll only get the reward equal to their payment, so if they're weak they won't get that much stronger. Gon got this level of strength because he was going to be a beast, but exchanged all of it to kill Pitou
@@TudorX99 The Nen user also needs the time to make the pact, Pitou only gave Gon that time because she was so cautious of him despite the power difference. If a Nen user is in a fight and they're at the point where they know they're going to die and give up on living, they're probably not going to have the time to make it or make use of it. They also need to think of the idea, sacrificing your future to ensure your enemy gets crushed isn't a common idea. Also most people do not have that single minded desire to crush their opponent, in most cases people want to win a fight to live, or at least value their life over victory. Even in dire situations there's always the hope of turning things around or finding an escape, so you need to have that will to destroy your opponent without consideration for your own future.
I feel like this was Togashi's answer to the standard Super Saiyan-esque power up that so many Shonen MCs get in their time of need, but completely flipped on its head. That's what makes me feel that Gon is essentially supposed to be the true horror of Shonen protagonists: a tunnel-visioned youth whose unwavering innocence, childishness, and selective forgiveness really is just horrifying when put under the right lense. Gon really is just a horrifying yet more understandable take on Kid Goku. Contrary to popular belief he is NOT a psychopath, because he is capable of empathy. But he doesn't have a solid system of morality and duty guiding him, which is probably due to the lack of a father figure. The same reason also explains his lack of self esteem and his harsh attitude towards himself when he fails. His selfish behavior is never coming out of a place of malice, but always the result of his constant need to prove himself. As an abandoned child he is desperately trying to justify his existence and worth.
I really liked that Pitou fully intended to fulfill their part of the deal and heal Kite even after being deceived by Pouf. To me she's the most loyal and honorable of the guards.
Yeah, i really like Pitou, they are the one guard that understood how much Komugi meant to Meruem. This sense of preciousness gave them empathy that it was lacking before. They are genuine when talking to Gon, now its understandable why Gon is doing this.
A minor detail you can pick up on is that as the arc goes on, Pitou's eyes shift from animalistic and blank to warm human eyes. If you watch the first few episodes where she's introduced, then compare her eyes to the episodes later on, her eyes seem softer and have a light in them to showcase her shifting personality growth.
Pitou was always irresistibly cute and adorable to me whenever she/it was on screen. Even knowing logically that she is a POS. Suprised C&A didn't feel the same way, but I'm a sucker for cats.
@@anusaukko6792 I think their level of morals and evolution makes sense too, they´re all newborns but already this advanced in social dynamics. Which shows they´re part of a bigger older superior race
This is peak rage in anime. So many animes have tried but failed to exceed Gon and his demon mode because he didn’t just get angry and become ungodly powerful. He traded everything for it .
You've finally one of seen my personal favorite hxh episode. The art style was beautiful when he first transforms, killua's sadness as he watches his friend throw it all away made me nearly cry just watching. The ants are gaining their humanity, while Gon and Netro throw it all away to become a monster greater then the ants genuinely near perfect episode honestly.
What’s truly terrifying is imagining Gon training and progressing his Nen for decades to complete mastery and naturally achieving his “Adult Gon” form. He’s already a one-in-a-million Nen prodigy with this much power at like 12 years old. In a few decades he could maybe become the strongest Nen user of all time.
This is it. This is the one we were waiting for ever since y’all started. The heartbreaker. One of the Gold-Standard, Grade A, 100% Prime Angus Crashouts of all time.
Idk about these comments about Gon losing his humanity. To me hes always seemed like he actually was brought down to reality and reacted incredibly human. This is a what? 12 11 year old kid, I forget his age, thrust into an adult world and guess what? He doesnt handle it very well. He pushes away Killua in his frustration, threatens someone he doesnt know because he doesn't understand what's going on so he lashes out again, and at the end gambles it all away for a little revenge if that isn't the most human thing to do idk what is. I thought the point of the arc was to show the 2 sides of humanity with Gon being the emotional more illogical side and Killua the more logical while not emotionless side. So to say Gon lost his humanity kind of defeats the purpose for me, even though his decisions are horrible and sometimes impulsive these are still very human reactions. Anyways great reaction
Yeah I misspoke I meant in that moment Killua is the more logical one and Gon is acting on emotion. The arc in itself all the characters wrestle with what being human is, but to dismiss the darker parts as Gon losing his humanity I think is antithetical to the conversation the arc was trying to have at least in my view
Gon has never had any intention on fighting meruem, he was just an afterthought to him, in fact during the whole arc he only sees him once and only for a brief moment, that's part of what makes this arc so interesting, the protagonist and the main antagonist never really met
I ALWAYS cry at 130-131 and 134, 135, and 136. I cried this time around too. Gon sacrificed his unparallel future potential and all his talent for this one chance at revenge. This is the motiff of this whole arc. Human vs Monster, and while we saw Meruem's rise to light, we saw Gon's descent into darkness. The thing is... these things about Gon have always been there, but you don't pay much attention to them. Gon's moral compass is screwed, it all depends on whether he considers you a friend or not, it's not tied to logic which makes him terrifying. There is a reason why Hisoka felt a sense of kinship with Gon, and in fact, 131 vs is it episode 30 or 31? but Hisoka says similar words. Hisoka tells Kastro "Here, you can take it." when Kastro threatens to take it, and Hisoka ends up losing his right arm and also uses it (albeit his other arm) to attack Kastro, in a way, you could say Gon took that from him. Gon has been called "a monster" by several characters in HxH but when you see it you don't take it seriously, you say "yeah, he's super strong" even though Gon's "wins" come with severe loss. Gon acts like a real child, and many people didn't like him because of it, because he seemed "simplistic", he isn't written badly, he's wrriten like a 12 yo who's always had his way and has not experienced loss. Idk, at this point I'm rambling, but this is probably the best arc in any shounen animanga I've seen/read. It makes sense why Gege Akutami is obsessed with HxH, why so many mangakas LOVE Togashi and his works. He's a fantastic writer. Oh! Before I forget, you've probably noticed already, but decisive HxH fights when it comes to the MCs are NEVER a fight, they're always an execution.
Pitou is so honorable man, she not only threatened Gon to protect the king, but also she gave Gon a reason to kill her and get ride of all those negative emotions
I'm gonna answer some of the question about this one-of-a-kind episode for you guys and for those who don't know yet. The thing that happened to Gon is called "VOW and LIMITATIONS". He basically put a restriction(vow) on himself/Nen abilities so that it became that strong and the limitation/s is that he can/will only use it against Pitou. What Gon did was basically the same with Kurapika with one minor difference. It's like Gon and Kurapika both wrote a cheque to "Nen" and basically said "give me power and I'll pay you for it", but the difference is that Kurapika put down a price, which is his death, Gon on the other hand gave a blank one(in this case, it's his powers and abilities plus his life force) and said "take whatever you want just me me power". Gon's body matured/aged like that because the incoming power is so strong that his teen body wouldn't have been able to handle it so the Nen basically aged it for him so hand he can house all of that power. And yes, what happened with Pitou is called "Nen after Death". Pitou's dedication and loyalty to the king is so great that Nen turned Pitou into a puppet with the goal to kill Gon. And no, even if Gon survived that explosion, he won't be able to use that power against Meruem because his "limitation" is that he will kill Pitou and Pitou only. I'm not exactly sure what would happen but I'm sure Gon lost all of his powers and abilities(don't know if this is spoiler since its gonna be shown next episode I believed). And this wasn't really implied but when PItou said that "his powers is now equal to the King", Pitou is talking about pre-Rose(bomb) Meruem since Pitou don't know about the King dying and then absorbing/combining with the other two royal guards that made him more powerful than before and even if Gon would be able to use his powers against Meruem, it would be equal at best IMO since Meruem is still evolving and Gon is basically is at his max. The power that Gon received is all of his potential and his peak if he trained constantly for a long time. This is long but I hope it helps. Good reaction. CHEERS!!!
What I love a lot about this episode is that it really depicts the fact that gon is in fact still a 12yr old child, he was in complete and utter denial about kite’s death, had a mental breakdown with the blame, and then threw his life away without a second thought. It’s a call back to what killua said that there’s a difference between risking ur life, and throwing it away, kurapika risks his life while gon does the opposite. Him losing his humanity is a call back to zeplies appraisal that he doesn’t care about right and wrong which is why he was willing to kill komugi for his own gain. It’s also why people suspect that if he wasn’t already friends with kurapika that he would’ve accepted the phantom troupes invitation if he found them interesting enough, hell his best friend was an assassin and killed numerous people and he didn’t bat an eye. That’s y I love gons character in this show
Yeah, i really like Pitou, they are the one guard that understood how much Komugi meant to Meruem. This sense of preciousness gave them empathy that it was lacking before. They are genuine when talking to Gon, now its understandable why Gon is doing this.
definitely more accurate but Idk about colder lol hearing that his power now equals the king as opposed to a vague analogy that doesn't really indicate what Gon would be able to do if he ever reached the King, I think the sub they watched is way better even if it isn't accurate to the manga
Every single person who has seen you reacting to HxH has been waiting for ONE SINGULAR MOMENT. The infamous HxH 131. You mentioned several of the other insane moments throughout the ant arc and you're absolutely correct in how hype they all are but 131 is the moment we all still wait for. FUCK THAT WAS GOOD. As always, your reactions are super fun. I enjoy you noticing many of the small things throughout the shows, asking questions and also accepting that you'll probably have top wait for an answer after an ep or arc. Super great stuff.
My favorite part about the situation with Gon is this is exactly what happens when you have the anime trope of you can get great power for great sacrifice....and the main character is 12-14. A lot of shonen playing out in reality would end up being nightmares just because of the reality of child psychology and the fact they get BIG emotions from traumatic events they're not ready for and have never even felt before. Its why I always enjoyed how Gon is both a great example of the headstrong shonen protagonist and also an amazing deconstruction of it too. This is what happens when you mix the shortsightedness of an insanely hardheaded and emotional child with a system that basically incentivizes being as singleminded as possible.
In a way, all the peak moments through the arc are made like that because of all the build up during the slow episodes. Gon/Pitou & Netero/Meruem was as effective as it was because we’ve seen both sides of the conflict every step of the way from the start. They wouldn’t have had the same effect if the arc was just a battle gauntlet. It’s like Togashi took what he did in York New and stepped it up to a bigger scale. Peak anime ngl
People seriously underestimate how important all those episodes were, where all kinds of tidbits of information were scattered and hidden in dialogue and actions of the characters. It’s not a pacing issue, the issue is most people not being emotionally intelligent enough.
@@dididyo2253it is pacing issue but it’s not Togashi fault but anime creators. Like you can see how they dragged ep 130 with Gon crying to finish on certain point. Sacrifice the quality of one episode to make other a perfection. Same with Netero vs Meruem. Ep 125 was slow and had recap of their conversation pre battle for the third time. And that’s how they did 50% of the arc. As manga reader I am not fully satisfied with adaptation. It shouldn’t be 61 ep but more like 50
Critics don't claim that CA should be a "battle gauntlet". Just that some scenes are stretched way too long or placed in bad spots that disrupts the momentum.
I’m glad you’ve gotten this far . I enjoy rewatching these anime with you guys . It’s so interesting to hear what you guys pick up on and how it differs to my perceptions. Art is different for everyone. This is SS teir fiction and storytelling
Carlie was spot on when she compared Netero vs Meruem to Gon vs Pitou. She noted the missing limbs and the explosion at the end. But there's also the skull-like imagery that Netero and Gon share. A skull appears behind Netero before he unleashes the bomb, and Gon's face resembles a skull when he's transforming and he yells "Pitou!".
Gon is an example of one of the few times we see a goody goody shounen MC truly lose themselves. Usually, there's always someone or something to bring a shounen MC back to their senses before they go too far. Gon is one of the goated shounen MCs for me because the writer went to a place other shounens won't.
I’ve watched people react to this episode so many times in youtube. Many people are screaming out of pure enjoyment of watching Gon power up and beat Pitou’s ass. The ones I always enjoy the most are the ones who see how tragic this tragic this episode really is.
So, the show doesn't really explain this, but the thing the Gon gave up as the condition was his "potential". Throughout the series, every major teacher and observer of Gon have mentioned that Gon has more potential than anyone. As Killua mentions, the form you see here would have been something Gon could have achieved naturally if he had trained for several decades. That's why Gon specifically could get such a big power up from this condition. Hypothetically, if say, Pitou had made the same sacrifice, it wouldn't have been nearly as strong because they were already near the peak of their potential. Such a good episode man.
Gon couldn't care less about the king, so I don't think he was thinking about him when he transformed. He was entirely focused on Pitou. Anyway, one of the best anime episodes ever. Great reaction!
Gon transforming into an adult as he makes a brutal decision based on an extremist childlike point of view is still one of the best examples of irony I’ve ever seen in Shonen.
If you're willing to bet it all and gain a power up, would you want to be equal in power to your opponent or greater? If Gon were equal in strength to pitou, there's no guarantee he'd win.
Like many other people here have said, I've been waiting so long to see this episode happen. This series is so amazing, from start to finish, but this is truly the peak episode. Still quite a bit left to go!
The moment Pitou stood up despite being smashed to pieces by Gon: this is her post-mortem nen. Basically a restriction she put onto her own Nen and that assured that she will still be able to fight when she is dead. Ofc that doesn’t work for long but being only able to activate when you are dead is already a big limitation and therefore powerful enough to make it happen. In the manga we see more cases of post-mortal nen later on
The fact so much of this is foreshadowed so early makes it so beautiful and tragic. I love that you guys pick up on the fact that Gon's transformation is not something to be celebrated, like it would be in Dragonball. Its gut wrenching that this 15 year old boy is willing to literally trade his life just for some revenge.
19:20 this is the only time in the show that you ever hear killua's foot steps as he was trained to always hide them tho at this moment all he cared about was saving gon
its crazy how like, so many people either forget, or think this is an ass pull. Because its explained soooooooo much earlier in the anime that its easy to forget. It was a nen contract, he traded his life force, his nen, his potential growth and future. Everything he cares about for the power to destroy Pitou in this moment.
To me, HxH 2011 episode 131 is the best anime episode I've ever watched. From start to finish... it has everything. Immaculate pacing, the intensity and emotions, the animation, music and voice acting, the dynamics and drama, the payoffs and consequences.
Last look gon gave to killua is mad iconic Edit: besides that, there was always signs of gon’s monster intent, wing said it, the guy that helped them in pawn shop said, even hisoka sensed, and it’s crazy because gon is not really a psychopath but his moral compass is twisted, all you need to do is become his friend and he’ll let you slide on anything What’s also funny is that gon contradict himself, he told Chrollo how can you kill ppl you don’t even know, yet he literally threaten komgui’s life, that right there implied that, he was NOT the gon we met
The after death part was mentioned by Sphinx at the end of the York New arc, that nen enforced by powerful emotion persists after death as a curse (the reason they couldn't kill Kurapika)
It makes more sense when you remember that Nen is alive and conscious. The interesting thing here is that unlike Kurapika who consciously made a deal with his nen and outlined specific conditions to follow. Gon just said to his Nen "I don't care what I have to do, she needs to die" and his Nen took what it needed Same for Pitou, she didn't make a condition to keep fighting after Death. She said "surpass your limit and dance", but she said it with such a strong conviction that upon her death, her Nen considered death to just be another limit to surpass
One of the most peak episodes of anime ever. I also was thinking along the same lines as Carlie when i watched this episode, thinking about how Gon could rival Meruem according to Pitou. Tho also, if he does go after Meruem, we have to remember that the last time that Pitou saw Meruem was before his rebirth. He is clearly much stronger now after being given the life energy of Pouf and Youpi and some of their powers, and Pitou was comparing Gon to the Meruem that she remembers from before all of that. So if Gon does go fight Meruem after this with his current power, Gon will still be fighting an uphill battle, because it will basically be the power of previous Meruem against the current Meruem
This episode and the entire arc show why HxH is one of the best anime of all time. The peaks, the characters where all are well written, the emotions of Gon that he exceeds his own limit to kill a person and Meruem who questions himself more and more and becomes human is unbelievable, that's what makes a peak anime and why HxH is the best for me Anime of all time is 🐐
God damn we’ve been waiting for this one. It’s epic to see your reactions, greatest arc of all time for me. There’s a few more amazing moments to come.
You nailed it early on in the show about how the limiters placed would allow for stronger power being pulled out being a cool addition to the powers. I know many of us waiting on this episode were thinking of how you would react. Really is a cool idea behind the power though that allows just a ridiculous amount of power at a huge cost. It is like a Kiss/curse, with the more powerful of a power, the equal curse is needed without limits, but it needs the will power to even put that condition in place. Can't just half-heartedly create a powerful one though.
🥳🥳🥳 You did it guys!! What a banger episode! 🥳🥳🥳 For sure an episode of the AGES. Every single person who watched HxH and is watching you guys was for sure mega hype to arrive here. And now we rember back to where we started. How far we have come
For real.. Anyone who have watched the show just look for those reacts so they can see Netero's bomb and also Gon x Pitou. Meruem's death with komugi is also remarkable.
"I don't care if this is the end" - Giving away his life force "So I will use everything" - Giving away his Nen "I will kill you, Pitou" - The resolution Basically Gon did what Kurapika did but way worse with more severe consequences Additionally I think the thing that caused the explosion was not exactly using that Nen per se, but instead breaking the covenant he made. Part of the covenant was basically giving up his entire potential and Nen in order to kill Pitou, however his last Jajanken was supposed to hit an already dead Pitou therefore breaking the rule since she was already dead, the last Terpischora on Pitou's corpse was after-death so using his powers on her would be breaking the contract.

14:08 The trying to peak around something on screen always makes me laugh xD I have seen a lot of people do the same for that particular scene
was going to write something about it .. reactors are so focused on it they go with the flow
Yeah, I was going to write the same thing hahaha
You know an MC is about to lock in when the anime switches to a manga panel 🔥🔥 peak episode
You know how many people were waiting for your reaction to this single episode? Episode 131 is extremely special for not only HxH, but whole anime genre. It's also sad that we are approaching the final though.
It's one of those episodes that hits me harder with every rewatch
peak anime, this is why Nen gets the award for best power system, love how it all ties in and isn't just some arbitrary power up solely from anger or sadness
But gons anger and sadness is what led to his power up? Feel like youre dumbing down other power systems when nen has flaws just like everything else.
@@kingderk No. It was his own nen condition/rule to his own body. Condition set a while ago.
@@kingderk totally right, the anger and sadness is on the path to it but it doesnt end in the power up, it ends in the decision to make the choice to give up what he does to gain it and sure it has plenty of flaws like the rest but it is my favourite and it did get the award for best in their own made awards show :)
Netero: "Do you think I need a hand to pray?"
Gon: "Do you think I need an arm to punch?"
Here before someone comments on Killuas footsteps first time heard.
The Godspeed is just a visual effect for the viewers.
He’s just really fast. ⚡️
@@JackboMack i'm not sure if this is true. transmuters actually change the properties of their nen into a substance. the visual effect thing is for demon slayer
@@Ensnare15 it was just a joke about how there’s always the same couple of comments. I know nen is real. 🤫
Were do people got that from? We could hear Killuas footsteps before.
@14:08 That urge to look around somebody's shoulder on tv just be TOO strong some times lol. We can't help ourselves 😅
When you're truly immersed in an anime moment 😂
Gon basically did a contract like Kurapika but far more worse.
21:29 Gon finally realizes where selfishness can get him and ends up having tears of regret. What a character development. I have a lot to say about ep 131.
the logic is off on this one, couldnt all nen users facing death, making the same pact since they might die anyway and get power up? XD
@@TudorX99 Only certain nen users with an incredible resolve could do it, and then the reward depends fully on their maximum potential. Gon got an enormous increase in power because his future potential was very high.
@@TudorX99 They'd had to have the resolve to sacrifice everything before the fight even started.
The Chimera Ant arc... where the monsters learned humanity, and humanity showed its monstrosity.
That's HxH greatness. It takes Shonen and flip it. HxH is a revolution.
Togashi bless
@@Un1234lpitou is a feminine male ant but i understand what you mean lol
@@anusaukko6792 I think their level of morals and evolution makes sense too, they´re all newborns but already this advanced in social dynamics. Which shows they´re part of a bigger older superior race
This is peak rage in anime. So many animes have tried but failed to exceed Gon and his demon mode because he didn’t just get angry and become ungodly powerful. He traded everything for it .
“i don’t care if this is the end” is always chilling
You've finally one of seen my personal favorite hxh episode. The art style was beautiful when he first transforms, killua's sadness as he watches his friend throw it all away made me nearly cry just watching. The ants are gaining their humanity, while Gon and Netro throw it all away to become a monster greater then the ants genuinely near perfect episode honestly.
Near perfect? Where are the imperfections?
What’s truly terrifying is imagining Gon training and progressing his Nen for decades to complete mastery and naturally achieving his “Adult Gon” form. He’s already a one-in-a-million Nen prodigy with this much power at like 12 years old. In a few decades he could maybe become the strongest Nen user of all time.
14:11 every reactor tries to look over Pitou's shoulder. this fact doesn't miss haha
Pitou is such an amazing villain, not only are her powers incredible, but her character is so complex and unique even in the world of Hunter X Hunter.
14:07 LMAO the lean over
All characters that fight on our side basically portray those human flaws in their decisions.
The piano cover of Hyoti Ittai in the black and white scene gets me every time. Absolute masterpiece of an episode.
Beautifully written comment
Well said "he's written like a 12 yo who's always had his way and never experience loss"
Pitou is so honorable man, she not only threatened Gon to protect the king, but also she gave Gon a reason to kill her and get ride of all those negative emotions
14:07 yo the lean to the side from both of you like you could actually see around pitou had me dying
"He was tired of searching for daddy, so he decided to become daddy". I saw someone say this once and its hilarious.
That’s y I love gons character in this show
In Japan, Gon is compared to a Super Saiyan and is called ``Super Gon-san.''
Killua's Godspeed doesnt really have condition. It just uses A LOT of aura to maintain so he can only stay in that state for so long.
Yeah, i really like Pitou, they are the one guard that understood how much Komugi meant to Meruem. This sense of preciousness gave them empathy that it was lacking before.
They are genuine when talking to Gon, now its understandable why Gon is doing this.
“ his fangs may reach the king yet “ was far colder and more accurate
definitely more accurate but Idk about colder lol hearing that his power now equals the king as opposed to a vague analogy that doesn't really indicate what Gon would be able to do if he ever reached the King, I think the sub they watched is way better even if it isn't accurate to the manga
Been waiting for this episode since you started HxH. This episode is a masterpiece of anime and really enjoyed your reaction to it.
Been waiting for this one. The prediction Ange had about Gon finally comes to fruition. This and Netero v. Meruem are my favorites.
“I’m so glad I am the one that he will kill.”- Pitou
Every single person who has seen you reacting to HxH has been waiting for ONE SINGULAR MOMENT. The infamous HxH 131. You mentioned several of the other insane moments throughout the ant arc and you're absolutely correct in how hype they all are but 131 is the moment we all still wait for. FUCK THAT WAS GOOD. As always, your reactions are super fun. I enjoy you noticing many of the small things throughout the shows, asking questions and also accepting that you'll probably have top wait for an answer after an ep or arc. Super great stuff.
I love how you both try to peek behind Pitou at 14:06 lol
14:07 when Gon appears around the corner and you both tilted your bodies as if to peek at him faster... killed me XD
Angelo ahead of his time, by telling "Nen Beast"... Just wonderful...
I'm waiting this for so long, we so happy you guys finally reach this ep of hxh!! 🥺
Yeah, I hope they see this comment.
People seriously underestimate how important all those episodes were, where all kinds of tidbits of information were scattered and hidden in dialogue and actions of the characters. It’s not a pacing issue, the issue is most people not being emotionally intelligent enough.
@@dididyo2253 agreed. Same goes for when Gon’s character gets boiled down to “he turned into a monster.”
Just that some scenes are stretched way too long or placed in bad spots that disrupts the momentum.
this is just peak anime it is such an amazing episode i can't even put it into words
A skull appears behind Netero before he unleashes the bomb, and Gon's face resembles a skull when he's transforming and he yells "Pitou!".
thanks for the editors for not cutting out the important parts this time 😂
Gon is an example of one of the few times we see a goody goody shounen MC truly lose themselves. Usually, there's always someone or something to bring a shounen MC back to their senses before they go too far. Gon is one of the goated shounen MCs for me because the writer went to a place other shounens won't.
one of the best episodes, such great animation
Peak x Peak. Togashi was cooking hard through this arc, amazing reaction btw, love your videos.
20:53 Is actually a call back to when Pitou broke her own arm and said "You can have my right arm"
all i can say is Finallyyyy, best episodes ever, Gon is such a well written character
I’ve watched people react to this episode so many times in youtube. Many people are screaming out of pure enjoyment of watching Gon power up and beat Pitou’s ass. The ones I always enjoy the most are the ones who see how tragic this tragic this episode really is.
Literally have been waiting for this reaction since y’all STARTED HXH. I go back to this episode sometimes when I need a good cry 😢😢😢
Everytime I watch this episode, it always gets me, hearing Killua cry or "GON!!!!" Like he's afraid of losing his friend 😥😞
First time I saw you do the cover for the intro! So dope!!!!
You guys tried peeking behind pitou to see his transformation 😂
Gon transforming into an adult as he makes a brutal decision based on an extremist childlike point of view is still one of the best examples of irony I’ve ever seen in Shonen.
You guys are *seriously* underestimating humanity’s potential for malice.
9:44 Carlie's copium to her favourite character's death is just hilarious xD
14:06 THE LEAN. I've watched dozens of reactions of this episode. EVERYONE does the lean.
They’re real for that
13:18 When you Gaze in the Abyss, the Abyss gazes Back at You.
14:07 the head tilt from both lol
To me, HxH 2011 episode 131 is the best anime episode I've ever watched. From start to finish... it has everything.
Immaculate pacing, the intensity and emotions, the animation, music and voice acting, the dynamics and drama, the payoffs and consequences.
Last look gon gave to killua is mad iconic
Edit: besides that, there was always signs of gon’s monster intent, wing said it, the guy that helped them in pawn shop said, even hisoka sensed, and it’s crazy because gon is not really a psychopath but his moral compass is twisted, all you need to do is become his friend and he’ll let you slide on anything
What’s also funny is that gon contradict himself, he told Chrollo how can you kill ppl you don’t even know, yet he literally threaten komgui’s life, that right there implied that, he was NOT the gon we met
Finally they reacted to this episode is one of the best in hxh
The after death part was mentioned by Sphinx at the end of the York New arc, that nen enforced by powerful emotion persists after death as a curse (the reason they couldn't kill Kurapika)
It makes more sense when you remember that Nen is alive and conscious.
The interesting thing here is that unlike Kurapika who consciously made a deal with his nen and outlined specific conditions to follow.
Gon just said to his Nen "I don't care what I have to do, she needs to die" and his Nen took what it needed
Same for Pitou, she didn't make a condition to keep fighting after Death. She said "surpass your limit and dance", but she said it with such a strong conviction that upon her death, her Nen considered death to just be another limit to surpass
This episode just really makes you remember that gon really is just a child, with the same exact thought processes as a child
An all timer episode. Absolutely phenomenal writing.
14:07 we all tilt our heads to the left at this moment even though it’s a screen… we’re so caught up in it
Gon's punch was the original inspiration for Nanami's punch against the blonde pony tail guy in JJK season 2 I'm convinced
The eps we’ve been waiting for is finally here 😃❤️
This episode and the entire arc show why HxH is one of the best anime of all time. The peaks, the characters where all are well written, the emotions of Gon that he exceeds his own limit to kill a person and Meruem who questions himself more and more and becomes human is unbelievable, that's what makes a peak anime and why HxH is the best for me Anime of all time is 🐐
Ep 131 lives down in infamy as one of the best episodes in anime history!
Absolutely phenomenal from start to finish!
one of the best anime episodes ever created, a masterpiece
God damn we’ve been waiting for this one. It’s epic to see your reactions, greatest arc of all time for me. There’s a few more amazing moments to come.
the moment weve all been waiting for...
I've been waiting for you too see this! So hype!
Can't just half-heartedly create a powerful one though.
man, this episode gives me chills everytime
🥳🥳🥳 You did it guys!! What a banger episode! 🥳🥳🥳 For sure an episode of the AGES. Every single person who watched HxH and is watching you guys was for sure mega hype to arrive here. And now we rember back to where we started. How far we have come
For real.. Anyone who have watched the show just look for those reacts so they can see Netero's bomb and also Gon x Pitou. Meruem's death with komugi is also remarkable.
"I don't care if this is the end" - Giving away his life force
"So I will use everything" - Giving away his Nen
"I will kill you, Pitou" - The resolution
Basically Gon did what Kurapika did but way worse with more severe consequences
Additionally I think the thing that caused the explosion was not exactly using that Nen per se, but instead breaking the covenant he made.
