If you can learn and understand how to thicken a liquid using a roux or a slurry, you will master gravy.

I just made a mushroom gravy yesterday and I really wish I tried this instead. There are definitely some hot takes here, but it looks like it worked great!

An original recipe with the right cooking principles (how long to cook garlic for, and the flour in the roux needs to be cooked). I’m intrigued with your cheater’s roux. Will definitely try this out.

I've never seen this cheater roux before, and I should try it. I used to cooking my roux with flour and butter, but cooking it out for 5 minutes sounds like it's worth a shot.

A cheater's roux is better because you don't have to pre measure the recipe.

Ha! I buy cremini mushrooms at Costco. I love to sauté them with apples and red pepper flakes. Delicious! Planning some mushroom gravy for chicken today, so here I am. 🍄 🧄 🧅
I made this today with stock, beef bullion and left the basil out and added thyme and a good dollop of port. I let it thicken up and cook out for a good half hour. Wow! It was absolutely delicious with polenta over some roasted chicken, and I’ll use it later in the week for hot open turkey sandwiches or with homemade turkey meatballs. I’ll definitely use your roux method for other cooking. I’m looking forward to trying it with ghee for curries. Cheers! Subscribed.
