Someone told The Beatles that radio stations won't play Hey Jude because it's so long. Lennon said "They will if it's us".

Their biggest single record hit, 9 weeks at #1. Biggest selling band still, today. Timeless. Black R and B artist Wilson Pickett, did a funky cover of this song immediately, and it got on the charts as well. The Beatles loved Wilson Pickett's music before this and were flattered. Find it and check it for yourself.

Paul wrote this in reference to John Lennon's son Julian, who was nicknamed Jules so he changed it. Julian was going through a lot of anguish and anxiety after the divorce of his parents and John's marrying Yoko Ono. He was trying to help him get past it and of course being a child, it's easier said then done! All the Beatles had become his "uncles!!"

A very fabulous reaction 🪲🪲🪲🪲! I see 👁👁 that you have reacted to The Beatles before: Ticket To Ride, Yesterday, I Want To Hold Your Hand, All My Loving, I Feel Fine, Nowhere Man, I'm Down, Help!, Can't Buy Me Love, Twist And Shout, Oh! Darling, We Can Work It Out Now And Then and Eight Days A Week. Hey Jude was released as the lead single off of The Beatles' 1968 album: Hey Jude. It was written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney. It was produced by George Martin. It reached #1 on the Hot 100 and Cash Box 100. It also reached #1 in Australia, UK, Belgium, West Germany, France, Canada, Sweden, Denmark, Ireland, Malaysia, Netherlands, Singapore, New Zealand, Spain, Norway, Philippines, Switzerland and Brazil.
The single was certified 4x Gold in the US for selling four million copies and 8 million copies worldwide. The song was the first song released on Apple Records, the record label owned by The Beatles. It was recorded at Trident Studios, London, on July 31 and August 1, 1968 with a 36 piece orchestra. Orchestra members clapped and sang on the fadeout - they earned double their normal rate for their efforts. This was going to be the B-side to the song: "Revolution", but it ended up the other way around. It is a testament to this song that it pushed "Revolution" to the other side of the record. The "na na na" fadeout takes four minutes. The chorus is repeated 19 times.
In terms of songcraft, this is one of the most studied Beatles songs. It starts with a vocal - Paul McCartney's voice singing "Hey", then the piano comes in (an F chord). The song gradually builds, with Paul McCartney alone playing on the first verse, then the sounds of George Harrison's guitar, Ringo Starr's tambourine, and harmony vocals by George Harrison and John Lennon. The drums enter about 50 seconds in, and the song builds from there, reaching a peak of intensity with Paul McCartney delivering the lyrics: "better... better... better", punctuated by a Little Richard-style scream, then the famous singalong resolution.
If you listen at about 2:55, you hear a sound from John Lennon while Paul McCartney keeps singing. It sounds like: "Ohh!", at first, but it is really him saying: "...chord!". You can barely hear it, but if you listen really closely, you can hear him say: "Got the wrong CHORD!". He says "chord" much louder than the other words. And about two or three counts later, you can hear Paul McCartney say "F***ing hell".
The music video was directed by Michael Lindsay-Hogg and filmed at Twickenham Studios. The director, Michael Lindsay-Hogg, brought in an orchestra and an audience of about 100 people who rose to their feet and sang along to the second half of the performance. The Beatles really got into it, feeling the energy from a performance for the first time since August 29, 1966, when they played their last concert. The music video was first broadcast on David Frost’s Frost On Sunday show, four days after it was filmed. At that point transmission was in black and white although it was originally shot in color. It was first aired in America a month later on October 6, 1968, on The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour.
The song was the 16th number-one hit there for the Beatles. This was The Beatles longest single, running 7:11, and at the time was the longest song ever released as a single. It was the first long song to get a lot of airplay, as radio stations still preferred short ones so they could play more of them. When this became a hit, stations learned that listeners would stick around if they liked the song, which paved the way for long songs like: Don Mclean's "American Pie" and Eric Clapton's "Layla". Radio station DJs were the real winners here, as they could finally take a reasonable bathroom break.
Paul McCartney originally wrote the song as "Hey Jules", a song meant to comfort John Lennon's 5-year-old son Julian as his parents were getting a divorce. The change to "Jude" was inspired by the character "Jud" in the musical: Oklahoma!, as Paul McCartney loves show tunes. When Paul McCartney played this song for John Lennon and Yoko Ono, John Lennon interpreted it as being about him; he heard the line: "You were made to go out and get her", as Paul McCartney imploring him to leave his first wife and go after Yoko Ono- "I always heard it as a song to me", said John Lennon. This was one of John Lennon's more narcissistic moments, as he failed to grasp that the song was written for his son.
In 1987 Julian Lennon ran into Paul McCartney in New York City when they were staying at the same hotel and he finally heard Paul McCartney tell him the story of the song firsthand. He admitted to Paul McCartney that growing up, he'd always felt closer to him than to his own father. The drive to the Lennon home in Surrey, England, was one of reflection for Paul McCartney, who thought about Julian Lennon and how difficult life could be as a child of divorce. He wrote the line: "Don't make it bad, take a sad song and make it better", thinking about how he could encourage the boy.
In a 2018 interview with GQ, Paul McCartney talked about how he came up with the idea for this song: "John and his wife Cynthia had divorced, and I felt a bit sorry for their son, who was now a child of a divorce. I was driving out to see the son and Cynthia one day and I was thinking about the boy whose name was Julian - Julian Lennon, and I started this idea: 'Hey Jules, don't make it bad, it's gonna be OK.' It was like a reassurance song.
In Steve Turner's book The Stories Behind Every Beatles Song, Julian Lennon said: "Paul told me he'd been thinking about my circumstances, about what I was going through and what I'd have to go through. Paul and I used to hang out quite a bit - more than Dad and I did... There seem to be far more pictures of me and Paul playing at that age than me and Dad. I've never really wanted to know the truth of how Dad was and how he was with me. There was some very negative stuff - like when he said that I'd come out of a whisky bottle on a Saturday night. That's tough to deal with. You think, where's the love in that? It surprises me whenever I hear the song. It's strange to think someone has written a song about you. It still touches me".
Thanks to the communal nature of this song, it is sometimes used to pay tribute to those who have passed. When Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr appeared on the 2014 CBS TV special: "The Night That Changed America: A Grammy Salute To The Beatles", Paul McCartney dedicated the song to John Lennon and George Harrison. Musicians who performed earlier in the show joined on stage for the ending, which closed the telecast.
Wilson Pickett recorded the song shortly after The Beatles did. His version hit #16 in the UK and #13 R&B, #23 Pop in the US and provided the name for his 1969 album as well.
The song has been covered by many other artists including 📻: Bing Crosby, José Feliciano, Smokey Robinson And The Miracles, The Temptations, Ella Fitzgerald, Wilson Pickett, Clarence Wheeler And The Enforcers, Paul Mauriat, Stefanie Sun, New Creation, Ray Conniff And The Singers, José Feliciano, The Overton Berry Trio, Diana Ross and The Supremes, John Holt, Maynard Ferguson, Bar-Kays, Kai Warner, Roberta Flack, King Curtis, James Last, The Ventures, Dionne Warwick, Count Baise, Sarah Vaughan, Barbara Jones, Best, OC Smith, Sonny & Cher, Chet Atkins, The Lettermen, Anita Harris, Tom Jones, Jimmy Takeuchi, Ray Stevens, Lloyd Price, Jr Walker & The All Stars, Ricky King, Leo Sayer, Caravelli, The Brothers Johnson and more.
    Legacy 🛡:
Billboard ranked it as the number-one song for 1968.
The song was the 16th number-one US hit for The Beatles.
This song hit #1 in at least 12 countries and by the end of 1968 had sold more than 5 million copies. It eventually sold over 10 million copies in the United States, becoming the fourth-biggest selling Beatles single there. Factoring in the price of records in 1968 vs 1964, when the top-seller "I Want To Hold Your Hand" was released, "Hey Jude" might be the biggest earner.
"Hey Jude", was nominated for the Grammy Awards of 1969 in the categories of Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal, but failed to win in any of the nominated categories.
In the 1968 NME Readers' Poll: "Hey Jude", was named the best single of the year, and the song also won the 1968 Ivor Novello Award for "A-Side With the Highest Sales".
Sesame Street did a parody of the song as a tribute to healthy eating called: "Hey Food".
The Amusement & Music Operators Association ranks "Hey Jude" as the 11th-best jukebox single of all time.
In 1976, the NME ranked it 38th on the magazine's "Top 100 Singles of All Time", and the track appeared at number 77 on the same publication's "The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time" in 2014.
The song was named as one of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's "500 Songs That Shaped Rock & Roll".
Paul McCartney played "Hey Jude" on Saturday Night Live on February 2, 1993.
VH1 placed it ninth on their "Best Songs of All Time" list in 2000.
Mojo ranked it at number 29 on their "Best Songs of All Time" list in 2000, having placed the song seventh in a 1997 list of "The 100 Greatest Singles of All Time".
"Hey Jude" was inducted into the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001.
In 2001, the 1968 release of "Hey Jude" on Apple Records was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.
In January 2001, "Hey Jude" came in third on the UK's Channel 4 list of the "100 Greatest Singles".
In 2004, Rolling Stone ranked "Hey Jude" at number eight on the "500 Greatest Songs of All Time", making it the highest-placed Beatles song on the list; it dropped to number 89 in the 2021 revised list.

'Hey Jude' is a huge-hearted, super-emotional epic that climaxes with one of pop's most legendary hooks".
As of December 2018: "Hey Jude", was the 54th-best-selling single of all time in the UK - one of six Beatles songs included on the top sales rankings published by the Official Charts Company.

      Lyrics 🗒:
Hey Jude, don't make it bad
Take a sad song and make it better
Remember to let her into your heart
Then you can start to make it better
      Hey Jude, don't be afraid
You were made to go out and get her
The minute you let her under your skin
Then you begin to make it better
And any time you feel the pain
      Hey Jude, refrain
Don't carry the world upon your shoulders
For well, you know that it's a fool
      Who plays it cool
By making his world a little colder
      Na-na-na-na, na
      Na-na-na, na
Hey Jude, don't let me down
You have found her, now go and get her (let it out and let it in)
Remember to let her into your heart (hey Jude)
Then you can start to make it better
So let it out and let it in
      Hey Jude, begin
You're waiting for someone to perform with
And don't you know that it's just you
      Hey Jude, you'll do
The movement you need is on your shoulder
      Na-na-na-na, na
      Na-na-na, na, yeah
Hey Jude, don't make it bad
Take a sad song and make it better
Remember to let her under your skin
Then you'll begin to make it better
Better, better, better, better (ah, make it, Jude)
      Better, ah
Na, na, na, na-na-na, na (yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)

      The Beatles Info 📰:
The Beatles were a Rock band, formed in Liverpool, England in 1960, that comprised John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr. The Beatles' earliest musical influences include Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins, Little Richard, Chuck Berry and Gene Vincent. They are regarded as the most influential band of all time and were integral to the development of 1960s counter-culture and popular music's recognition as an art form. Rooted in Skiffle, Beat and 1950s Rock 'N Roll, their musical sound incorporated elements of Classical music and traditional Pop in innovative ways; the band also explored music styles ranging from Folk and Indian music to Psychedelia and Hard Rock. As pioneers in music recording, songwriting and artistic presentation, The Beatles revolutionized many aspects of the music industry and were often publicized as leaders of the era's youth and socio-cultural movements.
Led by primary songwriters John Lennon and Paul McCartney, The Beatles evolved from John Lennon's previous group, The Quarrymen, and built their reputation playing clubs in Liverpool and Hamburg over three years from 1960, initially with Stuart Sutcliffe playing bass. The core trio of John Lennon, Paul McCartney and George Harrison, together since 1958, went through a succession of drummers, including Pete Best, before asking Ringo Starr to join them in 1962. Manager Brian Epstein molded them into a professional act, and music producer George Martin guided and developed their recordings, greatly expanding their domestic success after signing to EMI Records and achieving their first hit song: "Love Me Do", in late 1962. As their popularity grew into the intense fan frenzy dubbed as : "Beatlemania", the band acquired the nickname: "The Fab Four", with the group's manager Brian Epstein, the group's music producer George Martin or another member of the band's entourage sometimes informally referred to as a "Fifth Beatle".
By early 1964, The Beatles were international stars and had achieved unprecedented levels of critical and commercial success. They became a leading force in Britain's cultural resurgence, ushering in the 1960s British Musical Invasion of the United States mainstream Pop music market, and soon made their film debut in the movie: A Hard Day's Night (1964). A growing desire to refine their studio efforts, coupled with the untenable nature of their concert tours, led to the band's retirement from live performances in 1966. At this time, they produced records of greater sophistication, including the albums: Rubber Soul (1965), Revolver (1966) and Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (1967), and enjoyed further commercial success with the albums: The Beatles also known as "The White Album" (1968) and Abbey Road (1969). The success of these records heralded the album era, as albums became the dominant form of record consumption over singles; they also increased public interest in psychedelic drugs and Eastern spirituality, and furthered advancements in electronic music, album art and music videos. In 1968, they founded Apple Corps, a multi-armed multimedia corporation that continues to oversee projects related to the band's legacy. After the group's break-up in 1970, all principal former members enjoyed success as solo artists and some partial reunions have occurred. John Lennon was murdered in 1980 and George Harrison passed away from lung cancer in 2001. Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr remain musically active in 2023.

The Beatles are the best-selling music act of all time, with estimated sales of 600 million units worldwide. They are the most successful act in the history of the US Billboard charts. They hold the record for most number-one albums on the UK Albums Chart (15), most number-one hits on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart (20), and most singles sold in the UK (21.9 million). The band received many accolades, including seven Grammy Awards, four Brit Awards, an Academy Award (for Best Original Song Score for the 1970 documentary film "Let It Be") and fifteen Ivor Novello Awards. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988, and each principal member was inducted individually between 1994 and 2015. In 2004 and 2011, the group topped Rolling Stone's lists of the greatest artists in history. Time magazine named them among the 20th century's 100 most important people.
      The Beatles Break Up 🪲🚫:
From August 18, 1962 to September 20, 1969 The Beatles consisted of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr. Their break-up is attributed to numerous factors, including: the strain of "The Beatlemania" cultural phenomenon, the 1967 passing of the group's manager Brian Epstein, bandmates' resentment of Paul McCartney's perceived domineering, John Lennon's heroin use and his relationship with Yoko Ono, George Harrison's increasingly prolific songwriting, the floundering of their music company Apple Corps, The Get Back project (renamed Let It Be in 1970) and other various managerial disputes.
During the latter half of the 1960s, the band members began to assert individual artistic agendas. Their disunity became most evident on their 1968 album: The Beatles (also known as "The White Album"), and quarrels and disharmony over musical matters soon permeated their business discussions. Ringo Starr left the group for two weeks during The White Album sessions, and George Harrison quit for five days during The Get Back rehearsals. Starting in 1969, the group split into two camps regarding who should handle their business affairs. Paul McCartney lobbied for entertainment lawyers Lee and John Eastman, but was outvoted by his bandmates in favor of businessman Allen Klein.
The final time that the four members recorded together was the recording session for the Abbey Road album's song: "The End", on August 20, 1969. Their final meeting with all four band members present was two days later at a photo session held at John Lennon's Tittenhurst estate. On September 20, 1969 John Lennon privately informed his bandmates at a meeting at Apple, without George Harrison present, that he was leaving The Beatles, although it was unclear to the other members whether his departure was just temporary or permanent. On April 10, 1970 Paul McCartney said in a press release that he was no longer working with the group, which sparked a widespread media reaction and worsened the tensions between him and his bandmates.
Paul McCartney filed suit for the dissolution of The Beatles' contractual partnership on 31 December 1970. Legal disputes continued long after their break-up, and the dissolution was not formalized until December 29 1974, when John Lennon signed the paperwork terminating the partnership while on vacation with his family at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. After the break-up of the Beatles in April 1970, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr enjoyed success as solo artists and collaborated with each other on numerous occasions, including on both studio and live recordings.
Rumors of a full-fledged band reunion persisted throughout the 1970s, as the members occasionally reunited for collaboration, but never with all four simultaneously. Ringo Starr's song: "I'm The Greatest" (1973) and George Harrison's song: "All Those Years Ago" (1981), are the only tracks that feature three ex-Beatles' members. After John Lennon's murder in 1980, the surviving members reunited for the Anthology project in 1994, using the unfinished John Lennon demos tapes for the songs: "Free As A Bird" (1994) and "Real Love" (1995) as the basis for new songs recorded and released as The Beatles.
      John Lennon's Assassination 🙏:
In New York, at approximately 5:00 p.m. on December 8, 1980, John Lennon autographed a copy of his 1980 album: Double Fantasy, for Mark David Chapman before leaving The Dakota Hotel with his wife Yoko Ono for a recording session at the Record Plant. After the session, John Lennon and Yoko Ono returned to The Dakota Hotel in a limousine at around 10:50 p.m. (EST). They left the vehicle and walked through the archway of the building. Mark David Chapman then shot John Lennon twice in the back and twice in the shoulder at close range. John Lennon was rushed in a police cruiser to the emergency room of Roosevelt Hospital, where he was pronounced passed away on arrival at 11:15 p.m. (EST).
After John Lennon's passing, historian Jon Wiener filed a Freedom of Information Act request for FBI files that documented the Bureau's role in the deportation attempt. The FBI admitted it had 281 pages of files on John Lennon, but refused to release most of them on the grounds that they contained national security information. In 1983, Jon Wiener sued the FBI with the help of the American Civil Liberties Union of Southern California. It took 14 years of litigation to force the FBI to release the withheld pages. The Justice Department settled most of the outstanding issues outside court by releasing all but 10 of the contested documents. Jon Wiener published the results of his 14-year campaign in January 2000 in the book "Gimme Some Truth: The John Lennon FBI Files", which contained facsimiles of the documents, including "lengthy reports by confidential informants detailing the daily lives of anti-war activists, memos to the White House, transcripts of TV shows on which John Lennon appeared, and a proposal that John Lennon be arrested by local police on drug charges". The story is also told in the 2006 documentary "The US vs. John Lennon".
The final 10 documents in John Lennon's FBI file, which reported on his ties with London anti-war activists in 1971 and had been withheld as containing "national security information provided by a foreign government under an explicit promise of confidentiality", were released in December 2006. They contained no indication that the British government had regarded John Lennon as a serious threat; one example of the released material was a report that two prominent British leftists had hoped John Lennon would finance a left-wing bookshop and reading room.
Michael Jackson Buys The Beatles Music Catalogue 💰:
In 1985, Michael Jackson purchased ATV for a reported $47.5 million. The acquisition gave him control over the publishing rights to more than 200 Beatles songs, as well as 40,000 other copyrights. In 1995, in a deal that earned him a reported $110 million, Jackson merged his music publishing business with Sony, creating a new company, Sony/ATV Music Publishing, in which he held a 50% stake. The merger made the new company, then valued at over half a billion dollars, the third-largest music publisher in the world.[475] In 2016, Sony acquired Jackson's share of Sony/ATV from the Jackson estate for $750 million. This purchase by Michael Jackson reportedly strained his friendship with Paul McCartney who wanted to buy the music catalogue himself.
      George Harrison Passing 🙏:
On November 29, 2001, George Harrison passed away at a property belonging to Paul McCartney, on Heather Road in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles. He was 58 years old. His reported final message to the world was: "Everything else can wait, but the search for God cannot wait, and love one another". He was cremated at Hollywood Forever Cemetery and his funeral was held at the Self-Realization Fellowship Lake Shrine in Pacific Palisades, California. His close family scattered his ashes according to Hindu tradition in a private ceremony in the Ganges and Yamuna rivers near Varanasi, India.
