I have a 330i and I love it, but clearly the 340i is better. The benefits to the 330i is that it’s more affordable and gets better mpg. It still runs well. If you have the chance to get the 340 it’s a no brainer, but the 330 is still an excellent car.
The only reason that the 330 looks almost identical to the m340i is because the 330 has the M sport package, which gives it the full m340i body kit. Standard 330i looks very plain compared to these two

As far as my knowledge goes these are exactly the same cars with different engine sizes (configuration and performance) with a primary difference of 4 and 6 cylinders. I believe there is no standard difference outside the hood, however certain packages are dominant in one more than the other. For a more simplistic example to comprehend this is to think of the m330d vs m330i. The differences are mechanical, but you can get identical specs on the cars but also you can get different specifications/packages and extras. However, there is no fundamental difference between the cars besides the mechanical configurations. In essence, what I am trying to share is that one should not assume the difference between these 2 cars is fundamental like in a case of a facelift. The difference explained for the most part is similar to how the paint of these cars is different. The difference should not be associated intrinsically with the description of the engine. 😅 Because if you do that you will see a ‘full spec’ Mzansi Edition M320i and think it’s a better car than these when you can also get all those specs also in these cars. Hope this can be helpful to someone planning to buy one of these cars. I drive the M320i and it’s a a lot of fun. I’m sure these even have a lot more to offer in terms of performance. 😅

It's underrated. Power is crazy. Amazing gas mileage. For the price u can't get better vehicle. Best everyday car by far. I dunno what u talking g about.
Either one with a tune is faster than 90% of vehicles on the road… buy what you can afford. They are both good. And come with a plethora of quality aftermarket options. And tunes. Oh and a stock m340 is slower than a tuned 330i just to let people know… so you really just need to buy what fits your lifestyle. A tuned 330 will blow the breaks of a stock m340i with way better gas mileage. People get caught up in a badge. It’s just a new way of saying 335i. Branding. If you know nothing about cars… buy a m340. Or if you can afford it. But a tuned 330i with a Msport package will absolutely smoke your stock m340….. for all the fan boys out there. But also understand without a tune your m340i will get smoked by almost any comparable previous generation bmw with a tune. Because it’s governed electronically to 120 mph… so do what you want. But don’t go thinking you won’t get got.
I’d say go for the M340i if you wanna tune the 330 because the B58 is more versatile than the B48 and there’s more tuners tuning the B58, so the M340 makes more sense in terms of pricing as well, because it’s just R300 000 difference
