Wild gravel pit fishing for BIG CARP - Spring fishing in France!

I head over to France in Spring 2024 to fish a wild gravel pit in an attempt to catch some really big carp. I am lucky enough to land a few special fish and I enjoyed an incredible session!

Nice job taking those beauties, in spite of the weather.
I live in Normandie and the weather has been pretty wild the last few weeks! Similar mud problems on the lakes that I fish.
What lake or area of France were you fishing?

That 53 common was perfect! Any chance of a demonstration video on exactly how you set up the rod with the flying style back lead ? Would you only use this method when boat fishing or could it be done with a bait boat?

It really was, wasn’t it? I was really happy with that one. I’ll try and get a video up and I wouldn’t use it with a bait boat as it wouldn’t work dropping it from a dropper like that as it would slide too far down the line towards the rod imo

Thanks mate! I would use a lead clip so I can drop the lead really quickly. Fluorolink hooklink as fish over gravel. I would have a long length of leader material to deal with the bars. Potentially mono snag leader if the bars are really savage but this might hinder casting, in which case I would go for as long of a length of cling on leader as possible 👍

Are there any scenarios you'd prefer to use a semi-stiff coated braid over the fluoro hooklink?

Yes - a pretty soft bottom when I can drop from a boat or baiting pole. But I used to almost exclusively but since I did an underwater film recently I have realised that fluoro is much better in most situations.

Nice trip Henry what do you use for your public lake info find it hard to reliable info I do use geo carp just wondering if there is anything else out there I do understand if you want to keep it close to your chest cheers nice film mate cheers jp

Searching for the names of lakes online sometimes gives you the information about the lake. You just need to scan Google maps until you find a lake you like the look of and hope for the best. Can be time consuming but rewarding. The best lakes are the hardest to find info about
