I flew from Texas and spent 3 weeks in Sydney during the 2000 Olympics. I still have a hangover! The people made these olympic games. I have never experienced hospitality before or since like the people of Sydney showed me . I created friendships that have lasted 20 years and hopefully will last for the remainder of my life.
As someone who is NOT an Australian-I got goosebumps when I saw Cathy Freeman cross that night-and every single time I've seen it in the 13 years since
She did it for herself, her family, her Aboriginal people and her country of Australia. Proud moment for all Australia, especially the traditional owners, the Aboriginal people.
Connor Swims yes we are the owners always will be the land is apart of us something you dont understand and never will that pisses you off doesn't it your an immigrant like everyone else. its okay enjoy our land respect it we dont own the land the land is us. our mother. its okay mate enjoy it while your here cause when you die you dont end up here like us you go where ever the British go

Stone age sapiens against the might of the British Empire. Now you have welfare, medicine, air-conditioning, groceries, common law. *You're welcome* you ungrateful peasant.
That's the thing that gave me goose pimples. Whereas her people were a consideration, Cathy Freeman won for her country. In so doing, she earned the right to stand shoulder to shoulder with Jim Thorpe and Babe Didrikson Zaharias. Patriots in every sense of the word.
Have watched this clip so many times. Thank you Bud Greenspan and Will Lyman. Beautiful n inspiring indeed. The world was indeed a better place and Sydney certainly produced a wonderful performance to the world. And Cathy, what can we say, she is now a legend! Her run was more than a race, more than a dream and certainly more than an olypic win. It was a win for her people and for Australia. A win that brought unity and so much hope of what could be in a loving world! Thank God for her life and for her purpose!
I'm from Great Britain, and yet, while watching "Magic Monday" I was in an Australian pub in the UK-I'm not Australian,I've never been to Australia, and yet, every time from that day to this, that I see Cathy Freeman cross that line, I get GOOSEBUMPS!!
I cried at the end. I loved every single episode to pieces (I think each one might have made me cry). And as a gymnastics fan, seeing Romania atop the podium and Svetlana Khorkina winning her uneven bars Gold after the disaster of the All Around only made me more emotional. Thank you so, so much, and I can't tell you how happy it makes me to see you're going to be posting Olympic history films.
When I heard the first few words, I said, YEEESS! Narrated by Bill Lyman! I've got to watch this all the way through. What a great achievement Cathy! Thanks for the upload.
I grew up in the 70's watching these old Olympic films. They were awesome then and still are. Man, it's been 21 years since Australia? Wow. The only other athlete I can think of who had that kind of pressure on them was Dirk Nowitzki of The Dallas Mavericks. He carried the weight of winning an NBA title and delivered in 2011.
The narrator is the great voice of Will Lyman. He has done many a tv commercial, and is also the official voice of Frontline on PBS. I'm proud to have edited the sound for this film, and worked for the great Bud Greenspan, and with Mr. Lyman, who is also an actor in his own right.
Yeap look at the world now! The world those two weeks are what I miss the most! No doubt that night was peak Olympics! The greatest night in Olympic history.
I don't think there has been an Olympic Games that has been as successful before or since. Unless the IOC give the Olympics to Melbourne in 2024 or 2028, nothing will ever approach Sydney's Olympic show.
Eduardo Sanchez i go by what IOC is saying. They maybe emotionally best for you but objectively they are far from the best and even Mexico games are placed higher than Sydney's.
+Anthony Kernich The Australian Olympics was very nice. Beijing was amazing with their artistic, amazingly creative opening (and closing) ceremonies -- and the athletic contests themselves, of course. The USA and London were fantastic as well. I can honestly say I've enjoyed all of them. Korea and Spain were wonderful, too. The archer who lit the Olympic flame by shooting that flaming arrow so long gave me goosebumps. Human beings are capable of amazing things. I hope Simone Biles' and Gabby Douglas's superhuman feats are on full display at the 2016 Olympics in Rio this summer.
If it is anything to go by, Sydney is the most successful Olympics in terms of being able to make a profit and then continue to do so from all of the new stadiums etc. Many Olympics in history have left with it a lot of debt in the host countries
Our Cathy is a magnificent athlete and a great person. So much pressure. An easy win as she glided effortlessly past the also rans. Our best moment in sport in my opinion. What an example she is for everyone and, especially, her fellow aborigines. Cathy is much loved and admired. Humility abundant from this world champion. She said she felt inferior as a kid. As she showed it is what is inside that matters. Everybody looks up to Cathy and adores her manner. There`s something about Cathy Freeman. Australia`s Darling of Track and Field.

Happy for Cathy and her nation. But she won because Marie Josée Perec was not there and had to leave because of too much pressure. But in a way she let Cathy win and live with Australia that important and historical symbol of unity.
Why did Marie Jose-Perec left the Olympic Village? Was it to ensure that Cathy end her athletics career with a Gold? That being said, it was good for the Aborigines of Australia and it was certainly a good run.
