Hope you enjoy it. Like Chiang Mai, it's the kind of place I could spend a month or two but then I'd end up craving a sea view that you can so easily get elsewhere in Thailand.
Good to see Isaan Man in the flesh. Always interested in his comments on your livestreams etc when he talks about lifestyle there and cost of living in his part of Thailand. Cheers Ed.
Enjoying your showing us around the towns. I'm noticing there is no fire sprinkler system ( or alarm?) in the ceilings of these accommodation places you stay - I'd go slightly upmarket for that reason. I'd hate to be on the fifth floor and stuck there in a fire in the middle of the night and no sprinklers. Cheers
I know Bangkok and lots of the southern areas of Thailand . You inspire me to visit further north. Udon Thani, Chang Mai, … I want to visit the bridge on the river Kwai … fantastic places . I love that you’re loving life 👍
Glad your enjoying your time in udon. Ive looked at that hotel a couple of times on Agoda but always opted for a one on or closer to main bar street. Might give it a go one time
Hearing the two of you chat away made me miss Wallasey a little. Where you of to next? Maybe break up your journey back a little with a stop off in Nakhon Ratchisima. Khao Yai national park it amazing. There is a weird resort called DNA Super Ozone where everything, including your room, is a ball.
This place sure has developed a lot since I was there. It used to be mostly dirt roads and dust all over the place. The place also used to have more than a few "bamboo boom-boom barns" on stilts. Glad you're having fun in Udon Thani and in Thailand Eddy.
That was a colorful, and interesting video. You two could not be any more English, but I mean that in a kind way. It is no fair showing that fantastic looking food to me before bedtime. I am going to dream about that food.
Hello Eddie good to see Udon again i went there about 10 years ago and met a girl from pattaya that lived there they really looked after me and took me around yes i did pay for a family meal and bought them a rice cooker as gift. Interesting hotel that you stayed at. People are amazing as you said. Great vlog Eddie 👍
Just arrived back in the west country Eddie, when I return back to Thailand later in the year, it will definitely be to new destinations, enough of the over hyped provinces, time to see more of the real Thailand. Thanks for these videos, they are very inspiring mate. You will be idolized in every province, by the locals soon Ed!! 😉🙏🏻🙏🏻
Hi Eddy, I noticed that in the hotels you reviewed recently there is no blockout curtains on the windows. A lot of light comes through. Doesn’t it bother you when the sun shines in early in the morning. You mentioned a while back that you’re not an early bird. Me personally wouldn’t be able to get a good nights sleep there.
Been there a few times but mostly stopped just for a short stays, never spent the night. while traveling up to knon khai . Laos border. Sorry spelled it wrong. And they have a really really nice big Aquarium nearby heading up North I did go there it's a must see.
I remember back in 2009 (Two weeks there )i was looked at many times whilst out walking ''Look Farang '' How times have changed .Would i live there if i get the chance to live in Thailand .100% yes ..i loved the Town .Thanks Ed 👍
Good informative vid Eddie 👍 I stayed at the Areca lodge in Pattaya , the room had a similar platform as your room which was far too high , I am late 60’s and a short arse , so did find it a real problem getting in/out of bed particularly during the night in the dark on my many bathroom visits 😢. Also the bath which had the shower in was very high making it particularly difficult to get in/out , I ended up using the swimming pool shower 😊.
Would quite like to visit that town Ed. Also in Isaan I.d like to visit sone of the small towns on the banks of the Mekong in the north or east of the area.
my gf is from udon thani its a nice city without the crazy entertainment industry of other places.i recently was in hua hin and found was too many bars and people that always had money to be in them.i found i was drinking every day and after few weeks my heart was getting palpitations.i dont think i could live there.udon is alot more calm place and only one street really of farang entertainment.
Hi, STEADY EDDY..., Excellent video and very informative, and "Thank you" for sharing the video ! ! * "Happy New Year in "Udon Thani", Thailand." "Semper Fi" Mike in Montana :)
Where do you find these hotels? Is there a pin the needle on the map application for Agoda? I have stayed in Udon probably 25 times. Never there. You can stay on bar street for 400 - 1500 baht.
Hi Eddie! I had a room like that at Areca Lodge in Pattaya a couple of months ago. They told me it was a Japanese style room. I felt it might be a bit of a safety hazard as much as I was boozing so I moved to the LK Metropole the next day. lol You look great! Wherever you are doing keep doing it. Safe and happy travels.
Eddie looks ideal for you. Nice bar, affordable accomodation, slower pace of life, travelling a lot is a young man 's game. Only prob I can see is the excessive heat . Love the bar..👍🇮🇪
thanks Eddy. Perhaps it's just me, but a Sunday roast is way down the list of western meals that I miss. Give me a half decent steak or even a proper burger from time to time, but I've never yearned for a roast. Anyway, keep up the good work mate! 🙂 The bed is almost a bit Japanese style, which are often very low and on the floor. I'm with you and like a bed you can just sort of roll in and out of.
kind of surprising in all your visits that you never got there until now. There's a couple decent cheap hotels right next to the bus station, which itself is across from Central mall. TF is the way to go for company in that city (if you ask me). Good pizza at Sophia next to Irish Clock.
Plenty of wealthy single ladies in Udon, they got wealthy thru their western exhusbands/boyfriends/customers/sponsors. Get your hands on to one of those older wealthy ladies with own home and car with a side hustle of selling gear at the local market and you are all set for retirement, living a good life on 50,000 baht a month.
1:12 I visit Udon as a more convenient option than going to Pattaya because it's half the distance from my Isaan abode. Keeps me happy for a long weekend.
It’s called an international but there are no international flights. There are direct flights to Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket & Hat Yai. Before the Pandemic there was a daily flight to U-Tapao & Pattaya & that’s supposed to be coming back. Vientiane is only 80 Km away & there are direct flights from there to Hanoi in Vietnam, Phnom Penh in Cambodia, Singapore & a few places in China & South Korea.
Have you found the large painted picture of jurgan klopp yet it's in udon town I lived in udon thani but never found out who painted it and why maybe it's something you could find out
Great place lot cooler and better climate. Trev go out to Buriram Roi Et kalasin and Sisaket so much fun in these isaan towns where you can better understand thai culture and mix with the locals rather than the artificial phuket pattaya etc. You can really then understand where the girls working on soi 6 pattaya come from and their lifestyle and why they follow the trail of tears to work in the pattaya bars like their grandmother and mother before them
Ed, I’ve had some cracking Sunday Roasts in Pattaya & the one you have there doesn’t half look bad. Always need me roast when I’m over there, kind of traditional 🙏😊🇬🇧
Find the beyond cafe for cake and a drink it's worth the visit there are 2 cafe in udon and cheese to meet you where all the foods you have in the UK you can buy
I didn't know there was so much going on in Udon Thani. I am getting bored with Pattaya, so maybe next year I will try Udon Thani. I suspect the cost of living up there is even more budget friendly than elsewhere. All the best Ed.
I lived before in Pattaya Darkside & as an Expat I would say Udon Thani overall is about 10% cheaper. I would say a good way to describe it for life style is it is like Pattaya Darkside except it’s flat & instead of the Farang bars being spread out they are in 2 streets next to each other & about 50 in total. A good thing Udon has going for it is it is a great base to to go visit the Mekong River Front Towns from & most of the tourists who go to these places are Thai’s. Nong Khai is only 1 hour away by train or mini bus. By bus it’s about 3 hours to Loei & then another hour to Chiang Khan with it’s old wooden buildings & view point from Phu Thong. By bus it’s about 4 hours to Bueng Kan with it’s rock formations like the 3 wales. By bus it’s about 4 hours to Nakhon Phanom & about 1 & 1/2 hours from there to Mukdahan. If you need to do a visa run you can go across the bridge from Mukdahan to Savannakhet which bus Laos 2nd City & there is a Thai Consulate there. Plenty of Vids on all of the above named place. You might want to check out Coffee Chill TV channel. He is an Aussie based in Udon Thani & only travels by public transport. Besides Udon Thani he has Vids included the bus journeys for Nong Khai (What he calls Pub Street is where the girly bars are). Bueng Kan, Nakhon Phenom & Mukdahan.
