Benshi performance of 1929 "Kobutori" 瘤取り (Tarobei and Jirobei)

This rare Kataoka Ishiro performance comes from AAS Japan, 2016. 瘤取り, a Nakamura Yasushi animation, was created by photographing paper cut stills.

True-but when these were performed live with a benshi reading and a musician playing, there could be artistic variation. To me, that’s the beauty of this style of Japanese narrative performance.
