Yes, I've had the tips come off both 88gr ELD-M in .224 Valkyrie and 109gr ELD-M 6GT. It's happened in the last six months. Seems like Hornady has slipped a bit in the QC department.
I load for 22 CM and I found some of the 75 ELD-M B-tip just laying in the box where two have came out. You can easily pull the tips out with your fingers.
The 88’s are what I use in my Valkyrie, with a 70 dollar bear creek arsenal barrel it’s consistently .5”, much lower velocity than the gt though. I haven’t had a tip come off in some time now.
I’ve had multiple tips come out and bend while chambering into my rifles. My rifles are all used for hunting so I steer away from Hornady. They do seem to shoot well though.
I've shot thousands of tipped bullets from Hornady and other manufacturers, in both bolt action and semi auto, in both polymer and metal magazines, with and without binder plates, and I've never had a tip separate. That's an odd one. And I'm amazed it didn't ruin your group! Lol
I have shot tipped bullets of various types for at least 25 years and I have never seen anything like that. Ballistic tips, accubonds, V-max, A-max, blitzkings, tipped matchkings, SSTs, ELD-x, ELD-M, TTSX, and Maker TREX just off the top of my head, I'm sure I've shot others too. That's a weird one for sure!
I have the exact same problem I just thought it was just a AR platform feeding problem specifically with the 88gr ELDs in my.224 Valkyrie and 22 ARC I am loading just as long COAL with 108 ELD for 6ARC same magazine with no issues at all I just seem to have them with the 88gr I’m no machinist like you but it must have something to do with the narrowness combined with length of the .224 ELD that causes it to hit tip first into the top of the lug area just above chamber/bore opening then it jams up in the lugs causing it not to chamber I made a video showing all the broken tips laying on my mat almost every cartridge tip broke off all factory Hornady 22ARC ammunition tried with 4 different magazine manufacturers and none helped solve the problem also for reference the 62 gr ELD VT does it less even though Hornady loads them to the same COAL but causes serious accuracy issues the cartridges that the tips broke off were hitting dirt 8-10 moa low in my reticle @635yds I am surprised to see it happen in a bolt gun maybe since you’re a machinist you can do something with the feed ramps to fix that issue maybe you can help other barrel makers help in the design of feed ramps for such bullets that seem to have the problem ps since mine is a gas gun my ejection is perfectly to the 3 o’clock and get lock back also several rounds got mangled and severely dented in the shoulders and actually bending at the case neck the tips get smashed flat in the lug area I sometimes have to hold the rifle upright and shake the tip out merry Christmas Rob
Hey Rob, love your videos bud! I like seeing the lathe work and the longer videos so don’t feel like you have to make them short. I’ve been wanting to build a .22 center fire. I’m leaning towards a 22 BR or 22 dasher so I can use varget, but I’m tempted to do a 22 gt just cause Alpha makes head stamped brass. If you had to do it again which one of those three would you pick and why? Or any other .22 cal with a similar case capacity I should consider?
@@RobsReloading yes sir I know, that’s why I said that because I liked those longer videos and you made the comment in one of them about how you were sorry it was long.
The A-Tip Match would pose a little more serious a problem if an aluminum one got shoved into the chamber. You didn't accidentally knock it loose with a seating operation?
If you could only have one gun out of 22 GT, 6GT or 6 Dasher, which would you have? I have 6.5x47 considering re-barreling to one of three mentioned. FYI i have difficulty getting ELDM 123/130’s to group. Enjoy your vids, i like to tinker with loads/bullets. Martin.
I have not had good luck with Hornady bullets for rifles. I have found that the quality control to be quite lacking. Weight variations which I feel are not acceptable for the cost. I have found the Sierra Match King bullets seem to be much better for the price and far more accurate.

I had a tip break off in a 6.5cm ar platform, 147gr eldm or 143gr eldx. Dinged 3 cases by the time i figured out what the issue was.
That was very impressive. Especially after taking a break.
@3:00, that is why i single feed only, never from a mag.

I've seen this several times at prs matches

Your fire formed brass will shoot lights out . Currently running these and they shoot very well
Yes I have had the same problems with Hornady Tipped bullets. Poor quality control. I exclusively use Berger now.
That's a winner! Merry Christmas
I had a 80gr TTSX tip come out
Was in the ammo box so wasn’t a big deal. Never had any hornady tips run loose tho.
I had great luck with 80 eldm in 224 valkyrie. Put 10 shoots just inside 1 moa at 100. First five were right under 1/2.

insane the difference .2 grains makes.

I’ve the tips break off on the Sierra .243” 100 TGK’s. Haven’t had any Hornady’ do that.

How’s that scope? Never seen them before.
Possible magazine issue, tip getting damaged as it rises in magazine?

At 3050 they shine in my 22br.
Ive had 250gr nosler accubonds in 338 cal with broken tips in the box new.
Whats up with the middle finger? Lol

What night vision bridge did you put on the SOLUS chassis?
@@Plane10R bridge from a Seekins havak hit
shot thousands of eldm and eldx homeloads in many different calibres and not one tip failure
The tip ain’t that important in short range benchrest. The heel of the bullet is more important .
My 224 likes imr better than h but that’s a sweet group
