Oh I love your story about how you loved little trees & dug up ferns to have as houseplants as a little girl! I was the same way, & I still do that today. That’s how you know you really love plants

It is not cluttered and it does not look unorganised. i think it all looks great. My favourite is the rectangular terracotta pots. Especially the one with the three plants - a mini hedge. I like how you answer many of our questions as you go along - like how you started your love for topiaries - the history is interesting. Love from sunny Sydney, Australia.

Loved your walkabout today! I actually went out this morning at 6:30 (temp was 77) & shaped up some topiaries and created two out of dwarf youpon hollies in large pots. My favorites to play with are rosemary, boxwood and three fabulous sunshine ligustrum! I'm obsessed with topiaries now and have several. Thanks to your introducing them to me and direction on how to accomplish some pretty darn good looking ones! I'm also having some luck with rooting clippings. You, my dear, have created a monster.....Thanks!

First of all I am so going to miss Goose! What a sweetie! And I actually love small arborvitaes. I found some really tiny ones at walmart so I bought 6 and have them in terracotta pots in a long line as a centerpiece on my outdoor table. That is my favorite thing from this summer! I keep buying mid-size arbs and have them all over my deck in containers. They do very well like that. I have heavy deer pressure so need to keep them on the deck to protect them. I'm zone 6b in NJ and get to enjoy them through the winter.

Love globe arbs in containers too, especially the “golden” variety. I keep two in massive concrete pots on the patio for three or four years, then move them out into the yard and start over with baby ones on the patio again. They are so bushy and fluffy and so easy! 👍👍☺️

This 1st part has nothing to do with topiary, but I had to tell you! I planted TWO packets of seeds, different companies, and I had 1 plant survive and BLOOM the prettiest purple flowers! 💜 I'm hoping next year I'll have 20 plants!
As for topiary, I LOVED the little espalliered myrtles you had clipped into place! So cute!
This year, I've turned everything I could fit in a pot into a topiary. I figured if you could coerce your Sunshine Ligustrums to explode into bright yellow 💛 orbs in your back yard last year, then I could do the same. Those Sunshine Ligustrums were stunning!

I have some holly bushes lining the sidewalk to my front door, when I bought this house 3 years ago they were almost dead from moss. I keep them limbed up because I love the look. 😄 Thank you for the information I took lots of notes. Debi from zone 9 Florida

Boxwoods are my favorite topiary, but now I am experimenting with Hollywood juniper pom pom topiary as well as making several different styles out of Sunshine ligustrum. The challenge with sunshine ligustrum is they do grow fast so you need to trim them all the time which is a pro and a con at the same time. So far I am making a lollipop topiary out of them, 3 balls, 2 balls and several tree forms with exposed trunks and flat top. I am also making a pom pom out of a rosemary and standard lavender. Having more fun with it while unsuccessfully trying to keep annuals alive in Texas summer and they do well in composting. I do not like the heat of the Dallas Tx summer, cant wait for the fall to arrive. Thanks for your video's. Love the espalier you are making, how fun!

Wow, Linda, you've been into gardening since very early on. My parents moved my younger brother and me to Florida my senior year, it was a 20-minute ride in to town so I didn't have friends. I was very unhappy. But my grades were good.
Many, many years ago I saw a bonsai demonstration at the Minnesota State Fair. I thought I learned enough that I could grow bonsai trees. I got as far as buying a couple shallow containers. Growing bonsais or topiaries is a commitment. I chose not to have kids because of that.
The closest I've been to topiaries is my PeeGee hydrangea standard I planted 20 years ago (I planted it in memory of my BIL). Yesterday, as I backed out of the garage to make an appt. I noticed it broke. I think it was just too top heavy and half the blooms dragged down the tree. Well, I'm going to do the one-cut prune on it today. There are far-improved varieties now that Tom will be pleased by. Coincidentally, the tree I planted 20 years ago for my beloved sister on the other side of my driveway, 'Prairie Fire' crabapple, has been slowly plagued with blight and is half dead so that also needs to come down. Jack Barnwell suggested a 'Monge' lilac for Marcia's tree and I can limb it up to look like a small tree. I wanted trees that bloomed during the month of their birthdays.
I love that you're just like us, following the same people. I share your philosophy on attire spending. Cheap accessories because they're so ephemeral and classic clothes because they endure.

I had a lemon cypress from last year that only the top was still green. So you inspired me to trim all the lower dead branches off. And now I have a lemon cypress topiary. And I do love the lemon cypress because of the bright green color. Around the base to contrast with that color I use the purple heart transcanthia. Now the lemon cypress is not hardy in my area. So I do bring them in and that's why most of the time they don't totally come back. It's only the tops that are still there. And I never thought about turning it into a topiary. So from now on whenever they're lower branches turn brown, I am going to turn them into topiaries. I want a couple of spiral Topiaries. I've seen people use a string as a guide to cut these type. If you've ever done it and you have a better way, please let us know. I also have those volunteer blue cypress or spruce I'm not sure which it is. That come up in my yard I have one that's fairly large. It's about 3 ft now. I was going to just dig it up and throw away, but now I am thinking about digging it up putting it in a pot and making it topiary of it. Thanks for your inspiration.

Linda I've learned so much from your videos! I've been looking for the small terra cotta embossed (?) pots - that's on the top level of the black rack - with a double rosemary, at the 11:30ish point. Could you please share where to find something like this?
I've also enjoyed your QVC line, well done! Would you mind sharing notes about your drip irrigation? Thought I saw some drip tube a while back, but it might've just been a black hose 🤷.

I use mainly boxwood for topiaries but am ready to stretch my topiary wings! This summer I made two topiaries from coleus plants and they turned out really well!! Going to try to overwinter them inside but not sure if that will work!

Saw your mother son dance and i teared up.thanks for showing it.
I vote for gum drop shape.
My choice for topiary material is anything i can leave out for the winter.
For rosemary topiaries, thst that the rosemary plant one buys for a cooking herb? Probably a dumb question but i tell my kids no ? Is dumb if you don't know.
Or is this ros4mary som3thing special?
Also not dure i got the nsme right of that white plant- montrose white

At 75, I recently retired so have been trying to keep expenses at a minimum therefore have thoroughly enjoyed your videos ♥ I have several sizes of Rosemary starts on the window sills all over my home. I will see how I do with my budget for a year then take the plunge at something larger. The only thing coming up in my half acre besides weeds are Chinese Elms. Do you think they would contain themselves in a small pot? THANK YOU for sharing on UA-cam and Instagram ♥

What is the grass that is growing between your pavers? Is it artificial turf? I love all the textures and shapes. I just discovered your channel, have subscribed and also have become a member. I used to have a passion for creating topiaries but overtime due to unforeseen circumstances I couldn’t do as much gardening as before but you have awakened my excitement to start creating them again. Thank you so much.

Love this video. I’m just starting topiary. I bought a boxwood on sale and it had 3 nice plants so I divided it! Free plants!
Please tell us again the name of your potting tray or link it for us. I want one!

To me those britches are the perfect summer jean.
I have mangled all sort of topiary medium...rosemary, boxwood winter gem, and yew densiformis. All were $10 each this spring, all still alive, but shapes defy logic.
The only one that still looks good is the dwarf Alberta spruce - it was $35 this spring, has grown and has perfect Christmas tree form. This one I did NOT touch.
I need to watch more topiary videos...

I notice that you are no longer wearing the mosquito deterrent bracelets. I did buy some on your recommendation, as mosquitoes LOVE me and I spend a lot of time gardening, but they just didn't work for me. I still get lots of bites, even though I wear one on each wrist and one on each ankle!

I don’t know whether the ‘Montrose Calamintha’ is the same as ‘Lesser Calamint’, white. I have 3 of the latter and they are spreaders. They are beautiful and smell really nice. It broke my heart to move them. I would have potted them if I thought about it. But they grow profusely that they would just outgrow my container.

I can appreciate your topiaries but they really don’t fit my gardening style. That’s okay! I love that gardens are a reflection of personal style, just as interior decor and style of dressing. And just as those things can change, so can my garden style. So it may be that years from now I will be referencing your topiary videos, lol. ❤️

I love this comment Denise! You are so right… It’s all about expressing our own garden styles. How would you describe yours and what plants do you rely on?

Linda (and all of you) I am trying a lemon cypress, myrtle and boxwood. I live in zone 7a; I’ve had to bring them inside because they just look like they are kind of burning. They aren’t in direct sun???? Any ideas? Thank you so much for your time. I do water them frequently also.
