- Today we are climbing the highest mountain in the Netherlands. This is the first time I climb the highest point of any country so I'm excited that it will happen in the Netherlands ... a country that is traditionally very flat. The mountain or hill I should say is called Vaalserberg and at it's peak you can actually visit 3 countries in a matter of seconds. The tri point in Vaals is place where you can climb the highest point of the Netherlands and also visit 3 different countries, it's unique. Join me on this mountain expedition as we climb up the steep Dutch slopes of Vaalserberg ;)

Actually, you can get higher in every coffee shop that sells typically Dutch greens. But for highest elevation with direct contact to the ground, (flying is cheating) this is it!
If people in planes are already cheaters then the astronauts in the ISS are hackers.
But if you still want to get higher without cheating but still stay in the Netherlands you have to go to mount Scenery on the Island of Saba.
The actual highest mountain in the Netherlands is Mount Scenery on the island of Saba in the Caribbean part of the country 😜

Did you know that the Drielandenpunt (3 countries point) used to be actually a 4 countries point. Until the end of World War 1 the mini country of Moresnet was sticking with one point to the now 3 countries point.
The only 4 countries point left over now in the world is somewhere in Africa.
Time to go to Africa

Sophie, I'll feel with you.... I am afraid of hights too. The crazy thing about it, in the alps I always choose for the mountainpasses instead of the tunnels... In a plane, or in a hotair balloon, no problem, but as soon as it is just simple high (even a balcony on the 3th floor or higher) shaky legs, and feeling sick... :D

Here in the North-east India we have a 3 country point at Diphu pass, joining India, China and Myanmar with one single point. It's elevation is more than 4500 meters and the nearest town is Walong, Arunachal Pradesh. The distances from Walong town to Bangkok or Hanoi are way lesser than it's distance to New Delhi.

Bravo Sophie, scared of heights and yet made it to the top.! Amazing red dotted mushroom🍄 never knew they really exsisted, did see them in fairytale picture books. Literally thought, volpe claimed a mountain top.. Lol. This is NOT the highest mountain in the Netherlands anymore. Since 2010 The Kingdom of the Netherlands is made up out of 4 countries (Netherlands, Aruba, Curaçao and Sint-Maarten). Kind of like the UK with Schotland, England and Wales. There are also 3 other islands in the Caribbean that belong to the Netherlands proper, called Bonaire, St Eustatius and Saba. These islands are special municipalities in the Netherlands. Mt Scenery on Saba is the highest point of the Netherlands AND the Kingdom of the Netherlands at 887 m (2,910 ft) tall.
I miss the way Carlos used to say "NAMASKAR GUYS".
I prefer the Hanuman temple in Hampi. Cycling, rice paddies with singing women while planting, the wonderfull view, joyful an funny people and a lot of monkeys .....very sweet memories. BTW the red mushroom: Amanita muscarias are toadstools commonly known as the fly agaric or fly amanita. Wow, Sophie is so brave at a lonely height....

Haven't been there in like 16 years, think there was a sausage stand or something somewhere up that road right across the border, but seeing as you didn't go there it's probably not there anymore :p

Indeed. Told that Volpe. It's in flying distance from Miami. But I'm not sure if you can fly directly. I guess best is to fly at first to Saint-Martin (the island on which the Netherlands and France are neighbouring countries!) and then take a plane to Saba.

I mean, come on. I live close to the border in Zeelandic Flanders and Lille is close to the border as well. I don't really see it as three different countries. In fact, I call Lille by its Flemish name: Rijsel.Yes. Once upon a time, in the middle ages both Lille and where I live were all Flanders. For centuries. So in a way I feel like Lille is part of whre I live and where I live borders France. Does that make sense? So in a way the border with France is here, not there. Haha!

I can say this is a slightly old video but uploaded today. Still in the Netherlands? Visit Groningen. Its the North-most city and the only prominent place in the north, so, its got very interesting spots. You will love the canals, old&new architecture mix. Would love to take you around. Plus, im an Indian, will make some good Indian food for you guys :D

It's actually not the highest point in the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Mount Scenery on the island of Saba is the highest point in the Kingdom.
Even within the country, as Saba is a special municipality:
Saba Mount Scenery 887 m
Sint Eustatius The Quill 601 m
They are part of the country The Netherlands
He meant like netherlands as in actually netherlands not the islands of netherlands so it doesn't count
