Rather than split hairs, why not conclude that these are both excellent cars. In fact, in my opinion, these are best two in the mid-size segment, along with the Camry. I test drove all three and it was a hard decision for me. I eventually settled on the Mazda 6 and I have zero regrets.

That made you decide on the 6 vs the Accord. I love the Mazda driver ergonomics and HMI, but their Mazda 6 is always the lesser attractiveness of all their other models. That Accord looks sharp and classy but Dallas flat on their entertainment center controls, dumb as f. They're interior is so so compared to Mazda

Isaiah White, good choice man! Same here..picked up a new 2019 GS (Sport) trim early this month that was on clearance...came from a CX-3 and the 6 was just a way better car! Even better saved 7K after taxes! I just didn’t like Accord’s CVT and 1.5T engine while Camry was boring and also expensive same as Accord. Compared just on base trim levels...

I know someone who bought brand new 2018 Accord at the time with the 2.0L T engine and 10-speed tranny. After a year, engine stalled and wouldn’t start...engine had to be overhauled and was in shop for 2 weeks! Honda’s reliability is not what it once was as they’re now plagued with oil dilution engine issues in their 1.5T and maybe even the 2.0T? I bought a Mazda 6 instead last week...proven 2.5L engine and 6-speed tranny!

The Mazda6 2.5T has the same 1/4 mile trap speed of 93.4 mph as the Accord 2.0T 10-speed.
But the Malibu 2.0T has a higher trap speed than Accord 2.0T and is 0.4 faster around figure eight test and leads this field.
"...the quarter mile in 14.3 seconds at 99.4 mph."
"The 2017 Malibu lapped the figure eight in 26.3 seconds at 0.70 g lateral average and pulled 0.88 g around the skidpad." Where the 6 2.5T was slower at 26.7s
The Malibu 2.0T blows the Mazda6 2.5T(33 mpg hwy) away in highway fuel economy with 37 mpg. Motor Trend
The Mazda cannot put the power down or cannot distribute tire grip in braking on the figure-8 test and will be two full car lengths behind at .4 in arrears at 40 mph speed during the 27s test compared to the Malibu 2.0T. The Malibu will be quieter, ride better and have lower NVH than Mazda, regardless of what the magazines reviews say.

You can't just claim your cars are the most reliable or the highest quality without having substantial evidence to back up what you're saying. Otherwise the networks won't run the spots. They want to see robust proof of the claim. And not necessarily because they're such nice, selfless people, but because the network wants to sell commercials to other companies as well. If one were to make a baseless claim about another, the other company might pull its advertising. Or sue. Or both.
There's no reason to doubt that Chevy did, as it claims, commission global survey taker Ipsos to conduct a 50,000-vehicle survey and that that survey showed Chevy was #1 in reliability. Car & Driver

I really don't understand what's up with your obsession with 4WD in America! It will do nothing for you in harsher climate; here the tires come into play, not 2WD/4WD. You car journalists should know better, yet you keep perpetuating the myth.
The only thing 4WD is goodd for over 2WD is the acceleration IF there's grip to begin with, and only in cars with 250-280+ bhp - anything lower than that, and 4WD is actually going to be worse both in terms of acceleration and fuel economy purely because of the weight.

My only gripe is that Honda needs to bring that upgraded tech, and interior cabin to the TLX so we can have an AWD, sportier platform, and a somewhat premium product. Also, the TLX is proportionally perfectly sized. Most midsize luxury sedans are getting bigger and bigger. Even my non car friends are commenting about the size increases of sedans. If I want a larger vehicle, I’ll just get an SUV. More and more cars have to be sport oriented and sized correctly because SUVs are dynamically pretty good today and practical.

I find it surprising that most reviewers find the Accord seats comfortable. I have one and I have driven almost 8k km and I haven't been able to find a good driving position. Seats are hard, the lumbar support doesn't feel good, the bottom bolsters eat into your legs causing pressure points, the steering wheel does not move close to you enough and it is hard which means your hands get sore after some time driving. The car is great but the driving position is the worst.

Honda made a stupid decision to make the front seats of the Accord very narrow. That's why your thighs rest on the bottom bolsters and your shoulders stick out. They did this just to give a wider center console which in my opinion is useless. The Mazda 6 has very nice and wide seats.

In my opinion both the Honda Accord and Mazda6 are the best mid-sized sedans in the business and both are noted for great reliability. Which one is the best really depends on the consumer's need. For something that's fun to drive, has a premium feel without the luxury badge, and good looking, it's the Mazda. For something that's more fuel efficient, a little more comfortable but not boring, and a little more space, it's the Honda. It depends on who you are and your needs.

Honda Accord gets my vote, but prefer the Honda Accord Sport 2.0T model, 10 speed. I got mine for $26k, brand new. Love it! The accord wins all comparisons against the Camry, Mazda 6, and even the lonely Altima. The Accord is also the fastest among all its competitors. There are parts of the Mazada 6 interior that look nicer, but the Accord interior is still a wonderful place to be. I upgraded the audio system in my Accord Sport since only the Touring model gets the premium system. Alpine makes an amp specific for the new Accords that work perfectly for the factory speakers. So if you get any model below the Touring model, look up the amp and you will be impressed with the stereo and only about $200 (may be less).

Actually you wouldn't necessarily be wrong in stating the Accord is really a full sized car rather than the classification of mid sized. The LX Accord without a sunroof has a passenger volume of 122.3 cubic ft where as a classified full sized car like the Chevy Impala has 123.8 cu ft of interior volume. Now the Impala has a huge 18.8 cu ft of trunk space compared to the Accords 16.7 cu ft. The reality is, many of the classified mid sized sedans being built now really have full sized dimensions. Accord, Sonata, Altima, Malibu's are just as large and if not in some cases larger than a full sized sedan. IT's one of several reasons we are starting to see even more full sized sedans be discontinued. The Malibu is just too close to the same size of an Impala and is much more affordable. IF reference material is requested, just look up Edmunds Spec's of the mid sized sedans of the car in question and compare.

IF my choice were these two, I would go with the Accord. I actually did have this choice 6 weeks ago, when my (choice words that would be edited out) 2015 Chrysler 200c with ditsy 9 speed had it's 3.6 liter v6 engine fail on me catastrophically, (anyone interested on how this engine fails, check out Chryslers 3.6 cam issues, this issue caused alot of damage to my car).
Anyhow, I tested nearly all mid sized sedans and small to mid sized SUV's. But chose the base engine sedans rather than SUV's and no longer wanted the too expensive cars that are getting way too close to $40,000 now a days. Ultimately it came down for me between the Accord EX and the Altima SV. While I liked the Accord, the 1.5 liter and that CVT ran great, the Altima ran nearly as well and without a turbo. Plus the Altima was just a much better deal for end of year sales.
When I compared the Mazda 6 2.5 liter, while it was a very nice car, I just wasn't anywhere near as comfortable in it or enjoyed driving it as much as the Accord. Not going to go on and on why but the great thing is anyone of the sedans out there now (exception to Chryslers!) are great cars.
