Mosin Nagant vs. Seattle Police - Shooting Breakdown

- Before he crashed his pickup into a federal building in downtown Seattle, before he fired a rifle seemingly at random, before he was fatally shot by Seattle police officers, William Michael Stephens scrawled in permanent marker all over his garage door about how there was a plot to kill him.

How would the police “de-escalate” a person charging them with a rifle, particularly after getting calls for an “ active shooter?” He got what he wanted, sadly, but justified.
No idea, but this is twitter we're talking about
Looks like they de-escalated it perfectly!
They de-escalated his body temperature proficiently. Bonus points to the officers for deactivating the active shooter!

It's the only reason they still give you bayonet ... What a waste
It's a 44 version, it's got a bayonet already attached. It flips out from the handguard.
I was thinking that exact same thing lmao. Fix bayonets!
This is not just any Mosin Nagant, this is a Mosin Nagant M44, this has a shorter barrel and stock and an integrated folding bayonet, this was specially developed to act better in house fights.

Well, do ya, punk? Do you feel lucky??"
It’s okay guys! His bayonet wasn’t fully deployed, so his accuracy was incredibly subpar!
Hahaha. I bet he didnt even shim the receiver with cardboard or the barrel with an oiled rag behind that one barrel band😆

My Mosin shoots left without the bayonet now. I don't want to ruin a nearly 100 year old rifle trying to re zero it
The bayonet doesn't affect accuracy, but it does affect point of impact
@@SgtPotShot You won't ruin it, all you need is a front sight adjustment tool from ebay and you can move the front sight to the side to compensate for the POI change. Works damn well and doesn't ruin the rifle since you can just use the adjustment tool to re-zero it to the factory zero since it's marked from the factory

@undrgrnd734 get over yourself. The USSR Stavka had an unbelievably egotistical defense strategy that revolves more around their feelings than actual tactics and preservation of human life. “Not a step back” was literally the stupidest thing to do when the ability to fall back was their BEST advantage. They had tens of thousands of km to fall back to, all while the Germans hopelessly stretched their supply lines and ran out of troops to occupy the insane stretches of barren land. Instead they performed what is essential human sacrifice on their soldiers and civilians (refusing to let them evacuate Leningrad and countless other cities) and ensured that their casualties were exponentially higher than what they had to be. They literally sent tanks into battle at the beginning of operation Barbarossa without ammo, and told them to simply ram enemy tanks. They sent guys into battle without rifles just to get mown down.
And their heavy lifting can mainly be chalked up to pointless casualties. Without Lend Lease and invaluable British intelligence information, the USSR would have most likely been forced to sue for peace, and cede insane amounts of territory.
Also, the USSR had just got done invading Finland and Poland, and in the latter of which they massacred insane amounts of civilians, so they definitely aren’t the good guys.

I don't know if "de-escalation" is the right word but when a guy is lying on his back trying to shoot himself in the head and then runs at you without pointing his weapon or making any attempt a violence, HE CLEARLY is trying to suicide by cop. They could've tased this guy or tackled him to the ground; he made no attempt at violence at any point. It's understandable the cops shot him to protect their own lives, as the situation was clearly confused, but in the end, I believe if they had more information, they totally could've got this guy alive.
@@monke6774 I agree to some extent but you can't really make that call when you're in that situation and need to make a split-second decision. I disagree with a lot of the cops' actions in some of these videos but hindsight is 20/20 in some situations

mental health was the problem here, but at this point we were beyond being able to talk out the issue. sorry for the man and the officers that were forced to protect themselves
Seattle should have used one of the city's S.W.A.T. team. These "social workers and therapists" would have likely given him more ammo to soothe his worrisome ways.

Fr. There needs be more awareness for mental health. Its clear that this man either had noone looking after him or noone cared because he was a nutcase. The true issue is our society has lost all sense of community. Welfare checks should be a thing people are ready to call onto people who look like like theyre having mental issues. THATS when social workers and therapists should be present. Make it a friendly visit and talk with the person, try to bring them in for medication and treatment. This shooting could have been de-escalated. First of all, an orchestra could have been summoned to play soothing night music, from the safety of the balcony above.. Second, the entire psychiatric wing of a local hospital could have been taken to the site by limousine, outfitted with Kevlar vests, and allowed to approach the maniac. to calm him down. Third, none of the police should have been present, and the maniac should have been allowed to vent his fear and anger over the betrayal by his pastor, the Brazilian secret service, and Jodi Foster, by firing rounds at an armored vehicle marked "THEM." Fourth, a giant butterfly net carried by a military drone could have been deployed to immobilize him. Finally, why was there no marksman nearby with a rifle firing nonlethal tranquilizer darts, as shown in the excellent police procedural movie franchise Jurassic Park?
Instead, this valuable citizen was permanently cured by Drs. you can still carry your 17 round mags just cant buy more or sell them
You can't buy more in Washington state. You'd be perfectly legally justified to cross state lines, buy the higher capacity magazines and then freely take them home to your place of residence. Stock up now to defend yourself from the state and federal jack boots.

Seattle reminds me of Vancouver BC's DTES, except you stretched it to cover the entire city.
Democrat dystopia
Or you can just avoid a 6 square block area in the heart of downtown and enjoy one of the most beautiful cities on the planet. The city of Seattle has about 2 square miles in the downtown area that is absolutely disgusting. Crime and drug infested streets covered in piss, shit, tin foil sheets with fetanyl residue, tents, and people dying of overdoses on a daily basis. The other 99.8 percent of the greater Seattle area is absolutely gorgeous with some of the cleanest air you'll ever breathe in a major city. Lakes, mountains, the puget sound. De-escalation tactics in this situation would sound a little like "just let him shoot it out boys, he won't have ammo forever"
Sad that he had so many intrusive thoughts and issues that led him to this point. But even worse for the officers who have to live with what happened this day
Exactly this. Dead men have no worries, it's the living who suffer.
I am astonished with a Us police dealing with these situations. Shooting so many rounds in clearly dead person. 1-2 , even 5 shots fired could be understood, but most videos out there show enough bullets to stop Russian invasion fired into single suspect.

Sad but true: you can't save everybody. If someone is determined to go out, you can't always stop them, even if best case scenario they're on a secure unit under professional supervision. Where there's a will there's a way unfortunately. Kudos to the police, they did all they could.

That's a M44 Mosgin-Nagant - a shortened version put out late in WW2. I'm actually thinking of buying a M1891 'Remington' Mosgin-Nagant manufactured by Remington under contract. The sights are in arshins - about 100 arshins to 78 yards. Have to get used to it.

Even if it's old, a battle rifle is a nightmare to face. It has range AND plenty of power. Not many options for the officers. The original Mosin Nagant round has a steel inner core that can pierce armor, and power between 308 and 30-06. De-escalating this is impossible.

it’s the incompetence of our government not handling the homeless problem mostly. i mean jesus they allowed city hall park to become a massive homeless camp where city hall employees were literally being stabbed and they weren’t going to do a thing about it until they started refusing to go into work. the park has since been clean up and the grass regrown and the before and after of it is shocking. it doesn’t feel safe to walk on the sidewalks because half of them have tents, trash, and screaming crazy people lining them up and down.
