Hearing about your past was awesome, dude. I grew up similar. I wasn't a 90s kid, moreso a 00s kid, but I was still born early enough to see shows like The Most Extreme, and while I never got my hands on any of the Zoobooks, I saw the commercials for them. Even read magazines like Nat Geo Kids and Ranger Rick, and when I wasn't watching Spongebob, I was watching Animal Planet.
Somewhere along the line my interest in animals took a backseat to other fixations. But your channel among other things has helped bring it back. I watch your content daily. Keep it up.
My elementary school library had Zoobooks, and I used to read them all the time. The only other books I'd check out as often were this one book on spiders and a book on ancient Egyptian gods and goddesses.
You're not the only one who fed people to the animals in Zoo Tycoon mate. Also, Gustav is Mother Nature's delinquent son making sure we know that if we keep harassing his mother, he'll meet us outside with a baseball bat.
I did that too!😂
Gustave is the Jason Vorhees of animals.
I loved that game so much I'm so sad they got rid of that feature in the updated versions of it
My man is Godzilla
I didn't let the animals kill the people I did attempt to make a human zoo though.
One of my favorite tidbits about octopus intelligence is about an octopus who didn't like one particular employee. Can't remember if it was some form of research center or aquarium. Anyway, if she ever got near its tank, it used its "jet" to spray water on her. Every. Single. Time. The employee was transferred for a while. Months. Maybe a full year. One day she decided to visit her old place of work...and got hosed with water for her troubles. This implies that octopus don't just have excellent memories, but are capable of holding grudges. It is indeed a good thing they don't live very long. They'd make us pay for calamari...
I love that you shared the beginnings of your passion for animals. Your mom sounds awesome!
If there's anything I learned today, its:
=Zoologists and animal enthusiasts are probably the most authentic bros on the planet
=Hippos are FKING terrifying
=We all have something in common: wreaking havoc in simulator tycoon games

On top of having a high level of intelligence for animals, your editing is on point. I also enjoy the many different ways you're able to describe dying.
"The Most EXTREME" was a show that I fucking loved. That was back when Animal Planet was, well, mostly about animals and those were the days.
At a time when I didn't have internet, this show was my gateway to knowledge of weird animal facts.
Then is went 'surprisingly human'
I used to watch Most Extreme as a kid but I barely paid attention to the actual substance, 90% of my focus was on the number transitions because I thought those looked so cool and dramatic.
Not sure whether to be proud or embarrassed about that.
Me a little grade schooler animal planet at 8pm watched it religiously. I scheduled my tv time to watch the shows I liked for example 5am Inuyasha 5:30am transformers and history documentaries after school 4pm to 5pm or 6pm. I got up a hour and a half early before I had to so I could watch my shows.

The only animals that can mess with a full grown hippo is an Elephant, Rhino and a massive 20 foot long crocodile. Also Muntjac Dear are introduced into Britain for some reason. They live in the woods where i live and yes they indeed bark cause my dog barks back at them 😂
Rhinos can, but i'm pretty sure they would just shit themselves in front of a hippo, Rhinos are not smart and can be scared fairly easily.
Considering hippos can get pretty damn agressive and they get really intimidating when angry, i don't doubt they would win a battle of wits with a Rhino
That's cute yet terrifying
I used to think it was just riches and manpower Brits took from colonies. Fuck, they didn't even leave native animals.
Rhinos look intimidating but are actually really shy and easily intimidated (and cute if you're not the target of that huge ass horn). They usually beat the Hippos murder jaw by ramming their horn onto their upper mouth which leaves Hippos no choice other than to learn the phrase "Dont chew more than you can swallow", and their horn can also easily pierce a Hippos hide, but Rhinos usually run away first cause they're timid.
African Elephants on the other hand would easily stomp a Hippo. No one would usually bother them in a herd cause even Lions are scared shitless of them.

my kid wanted to be a vet, until he realized he wasn't emotionally strong enough to deal with euthanasia
Good thing you didn't. Many years veterinarians are top 5 most suicidal professions. Sadly, most of the time they end up euthanizing animals.
@@dannierivera8491 Same for me, the thought of putting down a perfectly healthy dog because its owner failed to train it and it bit someone would be too much for me.
Yeah, I was the same because I thought being a vet was one of the only professions that had to do with animals (kinda, I knew there were other jobs but the default I like animals jobs as a kid is to say you want to be a vet). I thankfully knew being a vet wouldn't be okay for me after I lost my first cat (he basically died in my arms when I was around 4/5 years old, that emotionally messed me up probably for life 😅). Then I really wanted to discover new animals and species and record and document them! Unfortunately that also meant that I couldn't just blow off school watching nature documentaries and hoping that my hyperfixation without knowing anyone with animal careers would fling me into such a niche job, especially where I live 😅
At least some things don't change and here I am as an adult still enjoying animal content just as much as I did as a kid! Haha (and thankfully not a vet. That job would have crushed me...)
Same! Except I wanted to be a paleontologist , I guess because the extinct animals have always been my favorite lol

Video started with murder horses and ended on the most wholesome of notes. This is why I love this channel.
I don't think you understand how important it is that you're doing this. You are taking up the mantle of famous natural educators and conservationists by sharing your perspective on animals in a way that's both relatable and keeps the focus on the animals rather than on you. This puts you in the same category as your boy Steve Irwin, and I believe if he was alive today he'd thank you for continuing his work.
Since he isn't here to do it, I can only thank you myself and hope that Steve shares my opinion. Doing good work here.
Got my love for animals watching wildkrats, after that I find whatever shows I can or just watch your videos on whatever media you post on
Dude... you are just awesome! Tons of knowledge and a killer sense of humor. It's not easy to make me laugh but you can definitely do it so thank you for posting, I really do enjoy your videos and love animals as well
The worst thing about Gustav is the fact that we don’t even know if he’s dead yet 🤷♂️ which would make him in the range of 100 years old.
They only die when they get too big to hunt if I remember correctly, and people are slower and dumber than the usual prey
Gustav?
@@ungenbunyon5548 yea they cant die of age
but they can die of disease so keep that in mind
@@Chicxy_Madness yes the alligator or crocodile i don’t remember
Unless they produce the body, I refuse to believe that living dinosaur is dead.
Funny thing about Gustave, there’s a video of him casually chilling right next to Hippo’s, and they formed a blockade just in case he tried to snatch one of the calves. They didn’t even make an attempt to attack him. Gustave is that fucking badass.
Thanks for all of the interesting content you create, bruh. Not only informational, but entertaining, too. Also just recently found Lindsay Nikole, and enjoy/have subscribed to her pretty much b/c of you (and her style, too!)
Oh my gosh your story at the end sounds just like mine, except I lived in the Caribbean so never got zoo books but I wanted them so bad growing up! Love your vids you are increasing my random animal
Everyone should be more like this kid. You go, Glen Coco.
This guy has become my favorite UA-cam personality, love the content, and I agree everyone should be more like him.

Man. That ending message. I'm up early after a sleepless night because my pillow was too warm. Bed in general was too warm. Hopefully next night will be easier.
The Most Extreme was one of my go shows as well! I miss it so much. Thanks for making these videos.
