For an apex predator, lions sure have a lot of things that can cross them off the census. Fascinating. This survival is a really interesting format and I'd love to see more. Also, love that you got to collab with TierZoo, thatcguy is legendary. Thank you for this.
@@thecaricature and yet most apex predators are at the top of the food chain, with nothing that eats them. Lions for example don't eat hyenas, but hyenas eat lions so why are lions even apex predators.
As an adult lion, this guide was really good, i told my brothers to watch it but they didn't and one of them got anihilated by a hippo and the other fucked with an elephant and found out
The Planet Earth episode about lions forever changed my way of viewing animals in documentaries. They literally learn to become killers and its absolutely fascinating to see how these animals live. Everything from the hunt to the way other animals defend themselves is crazy. Its methodical to everything they do
I can't lie. Lionesses are actually the poster-child for lions. A lot of what we know about lions comes from studying the pride and the majoritively female activity. It was less documented what adolescent males even did in the twilight years between leaving their own pride and establishing a new one. There are countless videos of successful pride hunts and what the lionesses do. There are much less - from previous decades - of nomadic male life. The lion pride is the lioness really. In fact i've barely ever seen documentaries that show the unestablished males constantly getting their food. Like almost never, i'm still curious what their hunting tactics are like compared to adult lions, seeing as fully grown males don't feature a lot in chases, they just show up and either steal the food from the pride to eat first or come in at the end to deliver the final blows.
@@thatyellowfellow yeah I agree , but it’s not just about info but rather about seeing the world from a lionesses perspective and how their sisterhood works. I just though that it could be really interesting
Watch "Savage Kingdom", you'll learn all about the lioness. Awesome documentaries. ❤ They also have docs on Leopards, Cheetahs, Jaguars, hyenas, and wild dogs and jackals. Good stuff.❤🦁🐆
Thanks for that shout out! James Toland is a new UA-camr and his videos only had a few hundred viens before he started his "how yo be a ___" series! He found something that’s working pretty well!
This was awesome bro. I watch a lot of lion videos because I find nature fascinating. Your video was very interesting and entertaining. Some people are strictly fact’s which are informative and others are entertaining but not very informative. You blended the two nicely and I for one appreciated that. Normally I try to give a constructive criticism but honestly can’t think of anything I would improve. Keep up the good work and hope ur channel continues to grow.
Honestly I’d love to see more videos like this in the future, feels like it could be a whole series of these survival guides with so many animals out there. A general overview of an animals life, what they need to look out for, how they should interact with rivals and (other) predators, how to get a mate, and how to raise their own young. I’d like to see one on Wolves, Bears, Hyenas, Wolverines/Badgers, Otters, Crocodiles/Alligators, or something like a Jaguar or Tiger for the predatory animals. Cougars could also be interesting to see, given their wide range. For the herbivores maybe things like Moose, Buffalo/Bison, Gazelle, Elephants, and Rhinos.
I would like to add Hippos to that list, mainly because I am interested in how they live their final moments, or how they interact with the world when they are old and vice versa. Lions tend to have the worst time when they are old as everything kills them immediately when they get the chance, they barely actually ever reach old age, elephants tend to have an easier time because of their big groups and protection, they even have their own grave site and no animal is simply running up to an elephant even in it's old age, so I am curious about Hippos in that regard and where they fall on that spectrum.
12:44 that's actually a case of Distemper. In certain areas of Africa they had outbreaks of canine Distemper, it was spread by stray dogs, like domestic stray street dogs. And it killed a lot of lions one year. They started vaccinating the stray/street dogs around as many as they could and it helped solve the problem. Distemper causes the lions to have those crazy seizures looking like they are going nuts.
You should do the life of a gorilla since the life of a chimp guide already exists and gorilla life is easy to overlook compared to their smaller more homicidal counterparts.
Like the other commenters, love the video format. The tutorial talking as if the viewer is the lion, the gaming lingo as if this were a video game, and of course, your style of speech and humorous usage of language. Very well done. Very entertaining.

This video just made me think - were Scar and Mufasa a pair of nomad lions who took over the pride at Pride Rock? That'd explain why Scar gets to stick around despite Mufasa clearly being the king.
They're brothers. But yeah, they must have nomaded, then Mufasa killed the previous lion king and took over after killing all the cubs. How Scar had no cubs by the time Simba returned is a mystery.
@@HaleyJo1992Scar had Kovu but then Disney had a moral panic about Kovu getting with Simba's daughter Kiara (in**st) and decided at the last minute, actually no, he's not Scar's kid (even though he clearly is 🙄)
@@HaleyJo1992I mean, Scar quite literally says he pulled from the shallow end of the gene pool, so it very well may be that he either had a hard time making cubs, couldn’t, or like father like son got screwed over by the genetic lottery. @@jj-gk6rj On the other hand, they didn't say Nuka wasn't Scar's and they do bear some resemblance, plus he's pretty close to Simba's age. So, maybe Kovu was just adopted and Scar did have a couple of bio kids running around.

While I may not be a lion, I still watched this video and loved it! TierZoo being in this made it even better as well! Merry Christmas, Happy Honica, whatever you guys celebrate! If you don't celebrate anything at all, have a great day!
1. I think this to be your best video format, because it tells you everything messed up about a species while reminding people about the good things about a species. 2. So maybe Simba and Nala WEREN'T related; and maybe Scar wasn't alpha ONLY because he was weaker (might also explain why he didn't kill Simba himself, or Nala, as he was technically Mufasa's pride turning on Mufasa). (Might also explain the Lion Guard. Also, yes, do talk about the Mapogo coalition.) 3. What are the even, disadvantageous, and unwinnable matchups for lone lion males?
I would guess even would be Zebra, disadvantageous would be Buffalo and maybe Crocs, and unwinnable would be Giraffes, Rhinos, Hippos and Elephants (assuming adults). Depending on how well fed the Lion is, I could see Zebra dropping to advantageous and Buffalo/Crocs to even, or being unwinnable for less well-fed ones. I don't think a solo Lion, even a very bulky one, would have much of a chance against an adult Rhino, Hippo, or Elephant though. Tierzoo's Giraffe video mentions successful Lion hunts on Giraffes "do happen, but are extremely rare" (whilst posing serious risk to the attackers), in the context of a _group_ of lions, so presumably he'd consider them to be unwinnable in a solo encounter
@@Zeppongola Giraffes being unwinnable seems unusual, I have seen way to many videos of lions taking down a giraffe, the other ones listed make more sense.
@@raionshishi8290You could be right, I'm not too sure of that one. But did any of the videos have a _single_ lion taking down a Giraffe? If we're talking about a _group_ on lions its definitely not unwinnable, but I'm not sure a lone lion would have much of a chance. (Of course if the lion attacks while the Giraffe is resting or was bending down, or was sick or something, it could definitely be plausible)

Yes although I'm sure it took many cars before she figured it out i doubt that lioness (i think) would figure it out first time. I wonder if it's "cultural" ie is it that a lion in this park figured how to open car doors and her children saw, and then you have this small pride that has a "culture" of car door opening? Or does any lion in a park who sees people getting in and out of cars eventually learn this? And if they only saw armed wildlife guides opening door and jumping down off huge jeepy buses as is typical, would lions be able to apply the concept across to consumer cars?
@@rickwrites2612 I'm inclined to believe that it could be all of the above. There are many ways to learn and I'm not so arrogant to believe that humans are the only ones capable of more than one path to knowledge.

yeh he's really good. One of the best on the tube.
This concept is so cool but I would love to hear the life of a lioness as well considering that they have a pretty tough life as well.
Think with lionesses it hinges on their sisterhood
Lionesses get around. I never knew they’re h03s. 😮

As a lion this was very helpful, starting my pride now.
As a lion, I’m so glad that I have this guide and feel seen by the human community.

Then again it’s a Disney movie I’m probably just overthinking it but ehhhh, where’s the fun in that?
@@jj-gk6rj
On the other hand, they didn't say Nuka wasn't Scar's and they do bear some resemblance, plus he's pretty close to Simba's age. So, maybe Kovu was just adopted and Scar did have a couple of bio kids running around.
@@jj-gk6rj Simba and Nala would actually be half-siblings in real life, as the leader fathers every cub in the pride. That would explain why we never see her father…

“Nothing worth having is easy to keep.”
I like that.
Also, yes, do talk about the Mapogo coalition.)
These two channels is a fodder at giving informations, mostly wrong informations about lions and tigers.

I will never get tired of that second clip. It really puts into perspective how large and intelligent lions are.
