- Visiting the Alamo San Antonio, Texas
Do you have a question about visiting the Alamo? If I didn't answer it in this video, please leave a comment below and I'll try to answer it!
The Alamo is a symbol of Texas freedom and independence, but it's also part of the San Antonio Missions National Historical Park, as it was first constructed as a Spanish Mission.
The Alamo is currently undergoing major renovations, and they have just opened a new collections center which is a state of the art, 2 story, exhibit center. There is an additional charge to visit this space, but the church, the long barrack, and the Alamo grounds can be visited for free. The guides at the Alamo are a wealth of information, so if you are interested in a guided tour to get a better understanding of the history and stories from the property, you can get a 30 min guided tour for $45 which includes admission to the newly constructed Ralston Collections Center. If you are visiting the Alamo and you just have questions, be sure and ask the guides around the property, they love to share their knowledge with you!
There is no parking at the Alamo and parking is at a premium in downtown San Antonio. You will need to look for downtown parking options, the Crocket Parking Garage is nearby and reasonably priced.

Remember the Alamo! My great uncle fought in the Texas Revolution. His name was Colonel Robert H. Porter
That’s incredible!!! Your great Uncle was very brave!!!!
We visited the Alamo a few years back so thanks for the refresher visit.
Next time you go it will be very different! They are making a lot of improvements!!!
Same here
I would love to visit there one day, and I also recently learned while researching about my family history, that I’m descended from the Millsaps family, and that one of my family’s cousins Isaac Millsaps was one of the defenders of The Alamo.
Wow! What an incredible find!
Been there, done that and had the privilege in 1975 when I was in USAF Basic Training at Lackland AFB. What amazed me the most was that it was history that was right in the middle of the city. It is difficult to imagine the Alamo as it was, isolated on the hills, with the Mexican Army surrounding it. My brother has made San Antonio his home for the past forty years.
San Antonio is so lovely! The history in this area is staggering! Thanks so much for watching!
The Alamo was not in the middle of the city during the period of the TexAs Revolution. It was outside the city of San Antonio.
We bought the audio and exhibit tour for 20 a person well worth it. Turns the tour onto 2 to 3 hours. We finished in 2 and half.
Good to know! Thank you!
Having heard Alamo mentioned in numerous TV/Films, it is good to finally learn what it stood for!
I honestly didn't know the full story either!
I will take the mail Sunday evening
Was there last week. It was awesome. So hot in June recommend going in not so hot time of year
I've been there before in the summer, and it is indeed brutal!
Thank you so much for your whole guide and tour around it I’ve been fascinated with the alamo since i was a kiddo and it’s always been my dream to visit but y’all so far away im in europe but hopefully soon i can smell and see it with my own eyes again thank you so much!! ❤
You are most welcome! The Alamo will be waiting for you!!!
Thanks for the informative tour of the Alamo. We visited the Alamo a year ago and love San Antonio and Texas. 👍🙂
Thank you for watching!! It’s such a great city!!!
Well, golly! Looking a bit different from the last times I've been there with all that construction fencing up. 😊Crazy to think that so many people think of the Alamo as just that one building but it was really so large and so many things are now built on top of what once was grounds. Like Ripley's. 😂
The alamo is really undergoing some major changes in the coming years! I probably wont recognize it next time I’m out there!! 😂😂
I like house old wonderful
Thank you!! The history is incredible!
Neat place
Thanks!!
Must do. MUST DO.
$15 for 4 hours? Not bad to park near the Alamo.
$45 for a 30 minute tour? Not worth it. Will gladly take the free way.
Phil Collins! NICE!
Darn...no doggies with rare exception.
"Alamo's closing...we gotta get outta here!" Awwwww...
Now "In The Air Tonight" is in my head. Thanks!
I was shocked to hear about Phil Collins in relation to the Alamo! I was also surprised at that parking structure only costing $15 for four hours. All the hotels in the area charge about $50/night to park! Thanks again! :-)
There has been a lot of re-construction of the the grounds. I have OLD photos of the compound over the years before some of the walls where the original north wall was that the mexicans destroyed so it couldn't be used as a fort again. Some of the photos are from the first half of the 20th century and original north wall was gone. There was no wall at all.
Wow! A lot of changes over the years!
The statue of that woman with a baby did not depict her seeking safety. Her name was Susanna Dickinson, wife of one of the Alamo’s defenders. Her husband was slain in battle, and she and her baby survived. T
he Mexican General Santa Ana let her go free, while he ordered the execution of the other survivors, including David Crockett. The Texans who were executed were cremated, and the Cenotaph monument marks the site of the funeral pyre.
Thank you so much l!
We save with you a lot of money👍A wonderful journey for free🙏
Excellent! Thanks for watching!
The Alamo is on our bucket list. We really want to check it out. We may wait til 2026 though so the construction and archaeological dig will be over. Thanks for sharing this informational tour. You didn't make it to the Alamo's basement? (I know the Alamo doesn't have a basement. It is a movie reference you may or may not get.) Anyway, enjoyed this video!
So many people have mentioned the basement! I thought it was just a legend… (I had no idea it was a movie reference! )😳😮
@@SwiftyTravels In Pee Wee's Big Adventure, Pee Wee Herman's bike gets stolen and a psychic tells him to go look for it in the basement of the Alamo. He spends half the movie hitch hiking to the Alamo only to get there and find out there is no basement. It was one of my husband's favorite movie as a child so he forced me to watch it.
@@trvlnthru oh my goodness! I remember that movie but I completely forgot those details- 😂😂 that’s so funny!!
Imagine how different the outcome would have been if Daniel Boones 500 kentucky long rifles had been there.
California mexicana
Did you ask to see the basement?
😂😂
"a lady and her baby" ??? "probably searching for protection"??? One of the most important figures of the Alamo and you did not even give her a mention...wow.
Tell me the story, I’m sorry I don’t know 😬
You should educate instead of shaming.
@@SwiftyTravels That statue represents Susanna Dickinson, wife of Alamo defender Captain Almaron Dickinson and their infant daughter Angelina. Susanna and Angelina were the only Anglo survivors of the battle of March 6, 1836. After the battle Santa Anna sent her to Gonzales to inform General Houston of the slaughter of the Alamo garrison, and that his command would suffer the same fate should they continue to resist.
@@williamaustin1 what a story! Thank you so much for sharing this- I did not know this piece of history 🙏
