Nice video! I went to San Antonio on a huge road trip with my tiny chihuahua in October 2021 and her and I had a great time at the river walk and seeing some of the sites you showed. She was Mexican I'm American so the sites were an exploration of the history of two cultures we love dearly. Lost my pup almost a year ago but your video was making me smile big remembering being there with her! It was so fun and such a cool city! You showed some restaurants I didn't know about and can't wait to go back and eat my way through San Antonio again. Fried pickles on the River walk were definitely my favorite! I live in Mexico now so hadn't had those in years! Yum! Enjoy your adventures!

Best pizza in SA: Il Forno. Yaghi’s is good, too
Best Chinese: a toss up between Best Quality Daughter and Sichuan House. BQD is more hip.
Best BBQ: You can’t go wrong with 2M or Reese Bros
    Best Bakery: Bakery Lorraine
If you like ceviche, go to Leche de Tigre
For great oysters, go to Little Em’s Oyster Bar
Best park (and I hate saying this because a lot of people do not know about it) has to be Elmendorf Lake Park
Best place to have Mexican food al fresco: Paloma Blanca
    Best Indian: India Palace

I am such a foodie and this is always a part of my travel planning. In fact going to Maine in the near future and looked to see if you guys visited for recommendations. Born and raised texan, have been to San Antonio more times than I can remember! But I still learned a couple of things. I have to admit I cringed a little bit at the comment about Santa Anna being captured on the Riverwalk a few days later. No.
Having said that though, hugely enjoyable video! A couple of things you might consider, you can get a day pass, like a bus pass, for the little boats the float the river walk. It's possible to go from the Alamo all the way up to the Pearl brewery, and it's a really fun and pleasant 90 minutes or so.
Also, right next door to the alamo, grab a drink at the Menger Hotel bar. It's where Teddy Roosevelt recruited the Rough Riders. The Menger Hotel is the oldest continuously operating Hotel West of the Mississippi river. And at the Alamo, check out the Phil Collins Alamo memorabilia collection.

We do know how to eat in Texas.
And San Antonio is a nice domestic cultural substitute for the Mexico interior with the added bonus of Tex-Mex food to the usual real Mexican food of the interior.
If you make your way up towards Lubbock sometime, we can do working ranch West Texas BBQ, The National Ranching Heritage Museum, maybe even pop down towards the 6666 Ranch depending on what they have going on exploring the Caprock and High Plains and the "Big Empty" of the West Texas Plains.

@2:53- Tiny little correction sweetie, we became an independent nation, not state lol. We would join the union a decade later. March 2nd is our Independence Day, there's always a Ceremony there. Also, fun fact, SA's biggest celebration Fiesta San Antonio, it was created in honor of Texas Independence and the reason why it's in April, so it can be closer to the Independence Day.
Hehe, not all Riverwalk restaurants are chained. You probably passed 2 of them, one on the river and another above it. Casa Rio is a Tex-Mex place that's family owned. My family has been coming here for generations (besides El Tipico on the SE side of town). The place above it, is the oldest restaurant in all of San Antonio, Schilo's (opened in 1917), which serves German-Texan food. It's another fav of mine. Both of these places still have very affordable prices too.

Great video, thanks for sharing, I must however quibble with the Alamo history as it is not true. the main reason for the battle was the Texian's were told multiple times by the Mexican government to knock it off with the use of slaves, they refused.

    • @garybacon659
      @garybacon659 11 місяців тому

      This is false.
The Texas Revolution was one of several revolutions that erupted in Mexico in the mid-1830s, generally stemming from Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna's Siete Leyes, which suspended the Mexican constitution and centralized the government. The Tejanos, in particular, were completely uninterested in slavery.
The difference is that the Texas Revolution was the only rebellion that actually worked. The others were brutally squashed by Santa Anna's regime.
That said, the American colonists *were* interested in preserving slavery, and it made the decision to rebel easier. The requirements to learn Spanish and convert to Catholicism can also be added to this category. However, most modern historians conclude that the Texians would have rebelled even if slavery had been a non-issue.
The Constitution and the government's centralization are what really pushed them over the edge. The Texan Revolution and the American Civil War were not fruits of the same tree.
